Except for his comment about needing a balanced budget amendment, a great video everyone should be sending to everyone they know as an example of the attitude our Congressmen and Senators should have.
Your statement supports my claim that balanced budget amendments do nothing to cure an ill legislature. The balanced budget amendment solves no problems. California is deep in debt and hasn't had a budget since the last one expired on June 30. There isn't even any real attempt going on to pass a budget, so they just operate without one with the Govenator being the decider.

Why is the Media not calling out Charlie Dent for saying he is against the bailouts, when he voted for the position in favor of the bailouts?
When Charlie Dent says he was against the Patriot Act and bailouts, the media needs to call him out on the firing line - he supported voting for both so how is that against it?
And John Callahan - John actually voted for both bailouts and the Patriot Act. Now he suddenly claims that's not what he supported?
Pennsylvanians deserve to hear this! The media needs to CALL OUT these two-faced frauds, so we can have a real debate!!
Its like they just pick two guys in these states, who are in favor of all the bad legislation but then claim to the audience they aren't in favor of this, the other guy is. When actually they both are since they voted for it - that's what we want on the Pennsylvania local news.

If they obeyed the Constitution, we wouldn't need a balanced budget amendment. What makes you think they would honor that when they honor nothing else? All we need to do is get back under the Constitution, and everything will take care of itself.
And if they did pass a balanced budget amendment, and "tried" to honor it, all they would have to do is raise taxes or print more "money" so they didn't spend more than they took in. How would that help? The issue is not balancing the budget. The issue is sound money and honoring the oath of office.

Which is what Jake supports. It would force all members of Congress to not only read the legislation they "vote" on, but explain reasons behind it...adding a layer of transparency that would actually enforce the constitution.
The founding fathers assumed that the Constitution was a ironclad document which limited the power of government and not the people. Somehow, our Constitution became interpreted by liberal politicians and judges and became a grant of unlimited power. Current legalese and interpretation would only provide unlimited taxing under a Balanced Budget Amendment and would not curb spending.
Beware of Article V - in today's political climate the entire Constitution could be gutted. The stakes are too great to open the Consitution for amendment and not expect a run away Convention. Our problems cannot be solved by amending the document that gave us our freedoms no matter how flawed it may be. If we get back to following the Constitution all the tangents will be null and void.
It means that once a Constitutional Convention is convened it cannot be limited to one specific subject, i.e. Balanced Budget or Term Limits. The Articles of Confederation were amended in 1787 and fortunately the Constitution was the end result. Any amendments to the Articles of Confederation were to be ratified by all states prior to becoming the law of the land but the Constitution even changed the method of ratification requiring only 3/4 of the states to ratify. This became a run away convention.
The only other way to amend the Constitution is a amendment proposal by Congress with 2/3 of both houses proposing. The amendment must then be passed by 3/4 of the States legislatures or a "ratifying convention" in 3/4 of the States. Congress has discretion as to which method is to be used.
In today's political environment opening the Constitution to amendment can be very dangerous. The Constitution could be changed forever - is it worth the gamble???
My understanding is that the Articles of Confederation were dissolved unanimously by the states.
The Constitution does not authorize a 'constitutional convention'. It only authorizes and 'amendment convention', and this convention cannot ratify the constitution; it can only propose amendments for the states to ratify as an alternative to having to go through Congress.
If the states all decide that they want a new Constitution, they can basically do it through the amendment process as there is no limit placed on what an amendment can do. However, the convention all by itself cannot dictate to the states a new document.

Your warnings here about Constitutional Conventions touch on the hearts of man. Good, bad & ugly... Humbugs will not likely present their full wrath at church picnics. Those with pure hearts can nary imagine.
It is wise to carefully remove a bad part when you are sure to replace it with something better, despite the hostile intentions of those showing up to assist in your demise.
