"America Overreacted To 911"

Of course, because it's coming from Newsweek, it's suspect. I found it interesting though, as if it's meant to be a quasi-apology, coming from Zakaria.

Americas response to 911 has caused our nation to be despised around the world. Is it meant to display what happens when people are free? (Although we know that we are not even close to that myth) Anyways, thought I'd share.

What America Has Lost
It’s clear we overreacted to 9/11.

Nine years after 9/11, can anyone doubt that Al Qaeda is simply not that deadly a threat? Since that gruesome day in 2001, once governments everywhere began serious countermeasures, Osama bin Laden’s terror network has been unable to launch a single major attack on high-value targets in the United States and Europe. While it has inspired a few much smaller attacks by local jihadis, it has been unable to execute a single one itself. Today, Al Qaeda’s best hope is to find a troubled young man who has been radicalized over the Internet, and teach him to stuff his underwear with explosives.

I do not minimize Al Qaeda’s intentions, which are barbaric. I question its capabilities. In every recent conflict, the United States has been right about the evil intentions of its adversaries but massively exaggerated their strength. In the 1980s, we thought the Soviet Union was expanding its power and influence when it was on the verge of economic and political bankruptcy. In the 1990s, we were certain that Saddam Hussein had a nuclear arsenal. In fact, his factories could barely make soap.

So what is the CFR up to ?

First Richard Hasse starts questioning the Afghan war, now fareed Zahkaria looking to ratchet down middle east intervention.

hmm, could they have decided Afghanistan was a bridge too far ? Or are other forces like the chinese asserting some influence.

More probably....

The tyrants realized we aren't buying what they are selling. Afghanistan and the Moabi desert....Give me a break. They take us for toddlers, we aren't fools!

Interesting

He leaves out little tidbits like the underwear bomber being HELPED get on the plane by "security", and I won't even start on 911.

Jim Rogers

This is true, but only a half truth.

We overreacted internationally, but we under-reacted nationally in terms investigating Bush, Cheney, WTC7, the steel, the Pentagon, the E-4B plane circling over Manhattan, the hijackers, etc., etc., etc.

Great point!

It seems like a fluff piece, just around the corner to the anniversary.

For an informed citizenry, individuals must discard the television set in favor of the acquisition of information via either books and/or the internet. An uneducated populous will remain in ignorance and thus continue to suffer the sharp ax of tyranny.

Thanks for posting

I thought about it, but decided it was a waste of time, 9/11, and newsweek. You know what I mean.
