From the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas's good newspaper.

Michael, I listened in

but seems like they were mostly defending thier actions and in major denial about the fall of print media.

Mostly spin.

Righthaven is completely out of touch. They're not in the newspaper business, either. Completely out of touch.

The only thing saving the MSM

The only thing saving the MSM will be reporting the truth...and that's not gonna happen. The future belongs to sites like Drudge Report or even Infowars.

Drudgereport is even part of the MSM....

But at least you don't have to pay for it. They can "let the truth slip out" and you can use it for toilet paper..

I don't care as long as they

I don't care as long as they keep having positive articles about Rand or Ron Paul...or about the lack of global warming. I think they are objective.

Neither do I

No one is going to be simple minded enough to trust, some Matt Drudge reporter to be their leader anyway. There's no one like that around anymore...

Might as well use it for laughs.

Flattering, that the Daily Paul site is a shining threat.

That would be enough to cause a knowledgeable viral outrage.

i don't understand

how they can have standing in a court. Are they being injured in any way?

Do you know what "standing "

Do you know what "standing " means?

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

The answer to their utterly stupid question is NO. In fact, such an action will destroy them quicker. If anything, linked articles drive traffic to their sites where new traffic can be advertised to. I, for one, would never have thought to visit their site unless I were taken there by a linked article of interest to me. These people are absolute idiots if that is the reason they are mounting this disgusting campaign. Their effort punishes the people and venues who actually brought traffic and hits to their publications.

Can someone please try to record this?

I'm going to give it a shot, though I'm not sure I'll be able to with my equipment, and I'm not sure I'll even be available to listen. But I really want to hear it.

And spread the word.

I can Skype it.

If someone here can tell me or my wife how to record the audio off Skype.

You need to use a recording

You need to use a recording device.

Make sure your stereo mix is on.

Oh, and here's an effective trick I have used, Michael.

Is LVRJ publicly traded (i.e., can you buy stock). If so, and you have $2,000 in stock, you can go after Gibson through his stock holders, either by addressing them directly or contacting them; and, if Gibson retaliates, you can file a complaint with the SEC. I got this straight from an officer with the SEC, so this is not anecdotal.

=) hehe!

Has anyone complained to the NV AG or Secretary of State yet?

Gibson is using the courts as a method to commit extortion.

Criminal complaints are free and have discouraged a lot of litigation.

This story has 2 possible endings

(1) Righthaven loses, precedent is set. We go about business as usual.

(2) Righthaven wins, only news sources who clarify their material can be linked to according to the common internet etiquette will survive the coming culling of these sources due to changes in news consumption already underway. We go about business as usual.

Either way, this is about Righthaven extorting money in the meantime.

I LVRJed huffingtonpost...hopefully they find themselves on the other end of a lawsuit soon as well.

I hate to rain on your parade...

However, I have been speaking nonstop with lawyers today.

And Elwar, I hate to break the news to you, but you're the one on the hook, not HuffPo.

And don't think that they can't find you behind that anonymous screen name. They can.

Again, I'm just the messenger here.

How exactly can they 'find

How exactly can they 'find you' or even prove it was you that actually made the comments? Given the various mediums through which the internet is accessible, the ability to falsify personal information required to register user names and the option of creating basically anonymous email addresses associated with registered user names, I find this claim to be highly dubious.

They subpoena the ISP

And they sift through the records, and find your IP address, then find you through that.

I certainly understand that

I certainly understand that is a way of doing it. But, if someone were motivated to avoid detection, such a thing would be easy to circumvent. I know people who access the internet exclusively through unsecured wireless connections owned by others, logging on to public wireless access points and internet cafes. None of which is traceable back to a ISP registered to them. And these are just a few ways to avoid accurate identification.

I guess my point was simply that 'they' are not all-powerful and able to identify anyone on the internet as it suites their whim. :)

Seems I recall that if u shut

Seems I recall that if u shut ur computer off every day then u get a new IP number every day...

Maybe it's time to turn these

Maybe it's time to turn these parasites against each other.
What if LVRJ links started showing up on every democrat blog from the national level to the county levels?
What about blogs/websites owned by the corporate media like nbc, abc, fox etc..

Elwar, in light of their celebration that

Angle was being sued by the vulture-media conglomerate, that is very funny. May they indeed be bitten by their own unprincipled biases.

Nothing can save

the print media business.

The truth is that there are already plenty of reporters and story writers online.
We aren't dependent on re-printing articles from print media.

The funny thing is that these links to stories from their papers is about the only thing left of them. If it weren't for these links and copies, nobody would be reading their stuff at all. They should be glad they are getting some attention.

Won't be long, and there won't be any print media left.
I won't be shedding any tears. They have abused their positions long enough, and they weren't willing or able to cope with the changing world, and so they are history. I suppose it is fitting for them to go out in a flurry of lawsuits, arrogant to the end.

I suppose they never consulted a PR firm that would have told them it's impossible to sue people into reading their newspaper. It was inevitable that these propaganda ragsheets would be unable to compete in a real marketplace,

They are Biting the hand that feeds them

So they sue and claim a loss because of full article postings.Yet in reality there is probably only one in a hundred or more postings that actually meet the standards of violation. What about the other 99? did they not send view's to their site?If sites start refusing to link to them they are now losing the 99 views for the sake of the one.I wonder which is more financially damaging? In all it is a nonproductive and silly way to look at it.To raise a stink is a bigger loss for them in the end,It will never be forgotten!Somebody didn't think this through very well.

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.
