Actually, the revolt began as a protest of gun control.
British troops followed orders to disarm the populace in Lexington and Concord. Some p.o. farmers decided, instead, to give the British the contents of their firearms in a most memorable manner.
Overtaxed!
Thanks for putting that into perspective! Made my head spin!

30%.
It is about 30%. And you can hardly count certain social insurance taxes, since you get the money back.

Good luck w/ your 30% solution. Legal tender: elastic liquidity.
Perhaps you could keep track of government tax accounts. Stop taking from taxpayers once the government got 30% what you feel is about right. 30%.
News reports I linked to show tax rates very high.
What you refer to a "social insurance" is so poorly defined insurance regulations don't regulate it. "Legal tender" paid into such contrivances does not come back to the payer. No, it is gone. Gone to someone receiving the moment someone pays. "Social insurance" as practiced is "wealth redistribution."
In summary: I wish you were anywhere near correct. Alas, I see it the way I presented it. I hope the way you see it comes true someday. I hope that income tax is abolished. It is a direct tax. It is unconstitutional. It has been declared that at least twice. Supreme Court has ruled against income tax or various reasons at least 5 times.... yet, Iris continues her gouging ways. All Iris taxes are gone before one nickle is spent on services taxpayers expect. Iris taxes go to interest on the National Debt & other transfer redistribution payment.

Yes, the SC ruled against he
Yes, the SC ruled against he income tax; that is why we have the 16th amendment.
30% is the literal number. GDP of 14 trillion; government revenue of 4.5 trillion, = 32%.
"Gone to someone receiving the moment someone pays. "Social insurance" as practiced is "wealth redistribution.""
That is because in a situation where X is the one paying the tax, Y has paid the tax many years and is now the reciever, Y is using X's reciepts because Y's reciepts were spent on other things. The government used that money to finance government spending instead of borrowing money with interest. Everyone who has paid a penny into social security before 2009 has had their money stolen so that it could be used for other things. At this point, yes, dedicated revenue year-to-year < benefuts, but that is because the trust fund has been exahusted by government borrowing.

This is just the sort of nonsense, up with which I will not put!
16th amendment: Never ratified. Illegal fiction.

GDP is a measure of spending which in includes Government spending. Very little meaning. Much is off budget. Off book.
Spend 14 trillion. Tax 4.5 trillion? Federal Government is limited by the Constitution. It should cost no more that about $56 Billion to do what is required, a Union of sovereign states. Stop thieving $4.5 Trillion. Stop promising $200 Trillion. Stop pretending GDP is useful measure of production. It is not. Government & transfer payments are not production. Ridiculous future promises unaccounted. $217 Trillion unfunded governmental liabilities: USA Debt Clock

Interesting. The post you
Interesting.
The post you linked says that the 16th and 17th amendments were not ratified. It lists several reasons. Where is the proof that those reasons are true (for example legislatures being on recess?).
42 states ratified the 16th amendment.
Prior to the 17th amendment, 33 states already had direct election of senators. It was very popular and passed Congress with flying colors. I can't remember the exact numbers, but over 60 votes in a 92-person Senate. Only Utah voted against the measure; every other state that voted on the 17th amendment ratified it. Certainly some of the ones that never debates it would have chosen to ratify it had it not already been ratified.

Up with which, I will not put. Many version of this sordid tale.
Prior to 1913. With no proper selection by the states, how does the US senate seat itself? Why do you believe so many states elected their senators by popular vote & ignored the Constitution stating that state legislatures select their representatives to represent their interests. If all was well with circumventing the Constitution, why the fuss requiring a 17th Amendment?
1913. Plenty of evidence weighs in on the Fed side of this mess. If you follow vested private interests, by sheer volume of their tripe, you could could fill box cars.
If popular votes hither & thither were all that was needed for a popularity parade of US Senators to run our country amuck, what power does the 17th amendment grant? How is the US Constitution enforced?
Why did the 17th Amendment not repeal conflicting powers granted in the US Constitution?
1913. What was all the clatter? Who rose to see what was the matter? The Fed? Iris?
Why does an official historical account differ from your version?
Senate Popular Improvement or Removal of the Republic?
http://history-world.org/united_states_government.htm
The makeup and general rules for the "world's most exclusive club," as it is often called, are detailed in Article I, section 3, of the Constitution. The Senate has 100 members, two for each state. Since 1913, when the 17th Amendment was ratified, senators have been directly elected by the people. Prior to that year they were elected by state legislatures. When vacancies occur between elections, state governors appoint replacements.
After 1913:
Do you see, there are many versions of history?
Present Mess:
First thing in the morning, when you see a rose, what color is it? Do you accept "Morning Glory Business" from the US Congress and state, 'my declare, in all its glory' by "unanimous consent?" Is the color what the US Congress declares? Or do you declare it differently?
Please consider what I write as you see fit. Please consider response may be very limited. Perhaps you & I are the only participants. If you stay on the heavily trodden path, my adventurous interest will wane. Good luck on your study.

It's easy to figure it
It's easy to figure it out..
[(State & Local Spending + Federal Spending) / GDP] x 100
I'm not going to factor in deficit spending or any of that gobbledygook. If they consume half the GDP it really doesn't matter how they finance it, they still gobble up half the GDP.
My suggestion is to find a passport and move out of here, or find some really really remote place here where you can live without having to interact with Uncle Sam or society in general.
Unless you can get the vast majority of downtrodden people in this country to go on strike or riot, there really isn't anything that's going to change. Your best bet is retreat.
I am out of touch with most Americans precisely because I am not out of touch with reality.
It's just a starter list, feel free to add at will!

There is also a "Marriage Tax" in addition to a Marriage
License Tax. Every year a married couple files income taxes, they are penalized for being married.

They seem to forget? Who is this "they" that seems to forget?

"They" is whoever forgets, it could have said they/we!

That's why the BATF(&E) is under Treasury.

Point well taken.
And think of all the great government programs these go to like the National Endowment for the Arts and Foreign Aid.

Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you try to sit, sit;) - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I’ll tax the heat;
