'We Will Stop Printing The New York Times Sometime In The Future' says Publisher

The publisher of the New York Times acknowledged Wednesday that the newspaper will go out of print — eventually.

"We will stop printing the New York Times sometime in the future, date TBD," Arthur Sulzberger told an audience at a London media summit Wednesday.

Sulzberger's statement came in response to a prediction that the newspaper would go out-of-print by 2015.

"This sounds obvious, but it's a big deal," Business Insider founder Henry Blodget wrote.

Now how's a man

supposed to start a fire?

Print is dead. Next thing we

Print is dead. Next thing we need to get rid of is paper.

The upside is no more New York Times!

The downside is.. well I can't think of a downside just yet but I'll post it when I do!

I am out of touch with most Americans precisely because I am not out of touch with reality.

Funny. Wonder if that is why they sent me a letter

asking me to subscribe for half off the other day??

What are you fightin' for?
Caught in the middle?
Freedom is only for those with the guts to defend it!

Only thing that worries me

Is that history can be rewritten with a simple keystroke the more we go digital. At least the newspaper was concrete evidence of something being reported. NYT has been a pathetic influence on our culture for so many years I'll be happy to see it's paper going away.

NY Time Reportedly The "Paper-of-Record." Backhanded Slap!

Sharks don't eat each other... Professional courtesy.

NY Times printed about the Dollars that Uncle Alan Green spun.

Times printed about helicopter Bank rescue by Uncle Ben.

Reporters often used the NY Times as the most-credible-of-newspapers. What a lowly backhanded compliment. I preferred the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise paper myself; It printed the yarns I spun.

Hark! Referring to newspapers as a record indicates the contents must be spun to be appreciated. Fair enough. But a reputable newspaper company might prefer referring to itself as something akin to a Victrola Then you might have more faith in the quality of the spinning.

    :)

Initially I had a good reaction to this but we know they'll still be trying to control the debate in 2015.
Does that mean we'll all be on internet 2 by then?

Good riddance to awful propaganda. Bad news for them, good news for Blog sites like the Daily Paul! Quite frankly, I can't wait for the day I don't see a newspaper with misleading headlines in a gas station.

    must admit

almost every morning I go to a local store to glance over the entire front page of the New York Times just to see what they put out to the public.

Another reason local papers will be more important.

    Hahaha, great news for liberty.

    May it rest in peace.

    wah, wah...

I wonder if the producers of carriages for horses bitched on their way out like newspaper people. Do they not understand that we have a better option? Print something worth reading... that is the secret.

Close but no cigar... Bitches are mother dogs.

Horses are most useful creatures, except one of mine in Carson City. See one of my prior postcards if you care.

Anyway, most newspaper reporters make up their stories. Light on the facts; heavy on the persuasion. They try to draw conclusions, best illustrated as editorial cartoons.

They reported my demise early, but never saw theirs coming.

That is the origin of fish wrap. Now, "legal tender" is made of saw dust. You can use that for fish wrap too. Perhaps sardines or shrimp.

This will have a huge impact

It will be interesting to see what happens. TNYT has a major influence on the "media" "below it".

Why did newspapers ever start websites? "They" give it away for free, so why should I buy the paper. It made no sense. A weird business decision.

I guess you cannot ever contain info on the net, so they gave up? If I am a newspaper owner, why would I pay a columnist for his article, then give it away free on my paper's website? Thinking about it.

I too find it "weird" but I don't think the internet is the main cause. Many people still prefer the paper over the net. This will certainly affect many people inside and outside the news industry.
