Did Darwin Kill God?

I don't want to promote that neocon-running-for-office's thread about evolution anymore.

Here is a wonderful documentary, Did Darwin Kill God?, on how evolution and God can and should coexist.

Did Darwin Kill God? Part 1:

Did Darwin Kill God? Part2:

Did Darwin Kill God? Part 3:

Did Darwin Kill God? Part 4:

Part 5:

Part 6 isn't worth watching.

You cannot argue that evolution occurs. It can be created in a laboratory, in our very own DNA mutation, and through observation of nature. Evolution does not equal atheism and it is a false dichotomy.

This issue is not black and white. It is gray. Both sides on the extreme should watch this series and realize the either-or fallacy.

The professor at a Christian

The professor at a Christian university doesn't believe in evolution. Shocking

"Science has not found anything that contradicts the straightforward, literal understanding of Genesis..."

This is accurate. Science has not found anything, ever. Scientists have, but science has not...

just science fact.. the

just science fact.. the fossil record is the record. there is NO evidence of evolution in the fossil record.

Watch it

I got two degree's from an A/G school.

Did Jesus start a church or a movement?

Just a thought to ponder.

He was accused of trying to destroy one though

Jesus would not tow the religious line. He would not follow man made religious rituals. Unless he thought them harmless like the festival of lights.

Christmas and Estar are man made rituals not based in history. Are these harmless? that could be debated. Man Made? No question about it.

Did he start a church?

" I will build my church and the gates of hell [NWO?] will not prevail against it"

Its an open question Mike.

I don't like religion but, I love My God. Just as, I love my country but am appalled at my government.

God Cannot Be Killed

End of discussion.

"The body is but a vessel for the soul,
A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore the soul deceives and despises."

Jesus is God

He rose from the dead, you can rise from the dead unless you are first dead

God is More Than the Son

He is also the Holy Spirit and The Father which have never temporarily 'mortalized' themselves.

I win!

"The body is but a vessel for the soul,
A puppet which bends to the soul's tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore the soul deceives and despises."

I hate it when that happens.

somehow, all I can think of is cowboys...

of course not.

science is the search for an understanding of "god" if in fact such a thing exists.
perhaps....we are not evolved enough to even ask the question?
I am a modern Diest.

Evolution is nothing more in the change in allele frequencies over a period of time. Evolution has nothing to do with mutation or the origin of life.

You can create evolution in a lab, just not the way you suggest. Take a fast breading species and design the environment to select a specif trait in the species, after several generations that trait will dominate.

Mutation was not necessary in the least..

Evolution was around long before Darwin. The Greeks even wrote about it. Darwin just made it understandable.

Also it must be noted that Darwin had two theories proposed in his book, "The Origin of the Species". One in the general theory which is widely accepted the other is the special theory. The special theory states that the general theory can explain the origin of life, which of course it cant.

Evolution cannot be created

Evolution cannot be created in a laboratory. Evolution is based on the idea that life can create itself out of non-living matter (Spontaneous Generation), something that Pasteur disproved in 1859.

While people are free to believe as they chose, the idea of evolution is important to the forces that we oppose. If life can create itself, and evolve into all the forms we see now and in the fossil record, why would we need God? And if God is not the source of our Rights, than what is? Government?

Evolution leads to the idea of scientific racism. This was demonstrated by the Nazis. This is a dangerous theory, and it is advanced by the very people we oppose.

Yes it can

To your first statement, yes it can be done in a lab.
Your definition of evolution is a bad one. Which adds context to your following statements.

I am waiting for YOU, or

I am waiting for YOU, or anyone else to show me one species evolving into another.

Don't confuse SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, with evolution. Within every species, there are countless variations. When the environment favors certain variations, they thrive. Others may diminish or become extinct. But this is NOT evolution. Evolution purports that one species can magically "evolve" into another. This is supposed to be based on mutation.

Mutations are almost always harmful. Scientists subjected fruit flies to radiation. All they managed to do was produce defective fruit flies. None of the flies evolved into superior insects.

Here, scientists tried to produce evolution in a laboratory and couldn't. And yet, we are supposed to believe that it occurred naturally, over and over for millions of years!

If an organism were somehow able to mutate into a superior species, what would it reproduce with? Obviously, one of it's inferior predecessors. And there goes the giant leap forward.

Evolution is a myth, but it is a preconceived myth than millions refuse to let go. They continue to "evolve" the Theory of Evolution as various aspects of it are shown to be false. This is not science, it is religion.

I povided you

I provided you with the both the proper definition of evolution above and how every day thousands of college students provide evidence for its existence.

As is so often the case, it

As is so often the case, it is the definitions (and who has the right to define terms in the debate) that causes the difficulty. In particular, that pesky word 'evolution' changes definition quite often. In the course of a single discussion I have heard it defined in numerous ways. One Materialist wanted to use the word interchangeably with the phrase "change over time".

Okay! Things change over time! Even the most hardened six day creationist would agree that things have changed over time. Big deal! The devil is in the details.

In Part One, I learned that

In Part One, I learned that christians don't take things literally, and that st. Augustus said if non-christians are talking to you, they are talking nonsense ??? I read the god delusion, and I prayed, and I lost my faith in a matter of days. I'm going to watch Part Two now.

evades the Name all the way through that book. Just be aware...

But I agree with him on the one world science/religion view.

Hear, O Israel: YHUH our God YHUH one. And thou shalt love YHUH thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

I probably should have

I probably should have mentioned other authors. I just find the whole thing corrupt from the beginning, historically. And personal reasons. I have no problem with people believing in God (my sister and father, very serious about it), I just wish it didn't affect the lives of the rest of us through government or personal avengence and war. When we die , we die, and whatever happens, happens.

Once a girl gave me a book, because we talked about atheism. She couldn't remember where it was, then she found it under a couch randomly and told me I was meant to have that book (she is new-age-y).....anyway it is called The spirit of Atheism by Andre Comte Sponville. I thoroughly enjoyed that book. It helped replace God with the universe.

I also don't see how people don't realize , "I KNOW GOD EXISTS." well , so do the people who kill themselves for their gods all over the world. You can't say they don't KNOW because...they kill themselves to prove it.

I commend you for your painful journey

I lost my faith when I pursued the proofs of God's existence. I read every argument I could find. I read St Anselm, St Thomas Aquinas, Decartes, Plato, and numerous other philosophers and theologians. I talked with priests, born-agains, and anyone else who seemed to have the answers. I convinced myself that they were right. I wrote my parish priest to explain the new depth of my belief in God, but in the middle of the letter I broke down. Down deep in my heart I knew that not a word of my letter was true. I did not find the proofs convincing. I was not a believer.

It took a couple of months to grapple with the implications of being honest with myself. My life, up to that point, was deeply entwined with the Church. I feared that my family, my friends, the larger social environment inwhich I lived, would reject me. I would be condemned to be alone.

All of that happened. But time heals all things, and in the course of a few years those who condemned me learned that I had not become a monster with two heads. I was the same person, maybe a little prickly about religion (just as x-smokers or x-drinkers can be a little over-the-top about anyone else smoking or drinking) but not a 'bad' person.

Today, I accept that there are heartful beliefs that give comfort to people, though I may think they are mistaken. I do not wish for religious believers to discard their beliefs...it is a process filled with pain and agony that should only be undertaken if their current religious beliefs are giving them doubts.

I became a happier and kinder person for my journey. I hope you find the same peace I did.

My experience has been nearly

My experience has been nearly the reverse of yours. I certainly wasn't raised as an atheist, but I certainly was one by my second year in college. I remained one for a number of years.

I eventually found that I could not be a consistent atheist and remain sane and human. So I painfully surrendered atheism.

I'm glad for you

Everyone should find peace. Whether in the Bible or in Atlas Shrugged, or some other book, institution, philosophy, or personal thoughts, I wish everyone the peace that comes with understanding and acceptance of one's own true beliefs.

Living a lie is the worst of all tortures.

Is peace a good thing?

Why is peace so important? Is it a good thing? If so, why is it such a good thing? What's wrong with conflict and disharmony?

That's funny, I read The God

That's funny, I read The God Delusion and found it to be one of the worst examples of an atheistic attempt at argumentation that I have ever read. If anything, it strengthened my faith.

Odd the differences of opinion.

I replied to the wrong comment.

Hear, O Israel: YHUH our God YHUH one. And thou shalt love YHUH thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Yes, they had an epic battle,

Yes, they had an epic battle, and Darwin won.

Evolution, in the origin of life question, never logically

excluded the possibility of a Creator, nor did it suggest one.

Adapting to surrounding

and DNA evolution is two different issues.
Evolution would require DNA changes.
I'm not a scientist to refute evolution but I know what the Creator told me, which HE has confirmed in my faculties.
I am not a monkey, never was, and never will be.

First of all, what scientist see today is not what God created in the beginning, because sin effected the whole World and Planet. The whole Earth travails in pain and awaits Christ's second advent to
re-establish things as they were created. We do not taste perfect fruits and vegetables. Thorns have been added to Roses and many other unnoticed changes took place after sin entered the World. There were no preditors pre-sin. Eating meat is a symbol of Sacrifice. I could go on but "sin effect" is fact.

I must be stupid?

I still have no explanation for the fact that we have an unneeded base at our spine for a tail?Maybe you could help explain this to me because I am bewildered?

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.
