How to stop the usage of GMO's Within a Week
Submitted by Habit4ming on Tue, 09/28/2010 - 15:25Concerning GMO's, this excerpt from an email I received today, says it all:
The solution to this debacle is not to go back to the same institutions that have sold us out. Fortunately, since GMOs offer no consumer benefits, if even a small percentage of shoppers—say 5% or 15 million people—seek non-GMO brands, it would precipitate a tipping point in the market, forcing GM ingredients out of the US food supply. When Europe reached its tipping point of consumer rejection against GMOs over 10 years ago, WITHIN A SINGLE WEEK virtually every major food company committed to stop using them. In the US, a low profile tipping point against the genetically engineered cow drug, bovine growth hormone, has similarly kicked it out of most dairies, including milk products sold by Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Dannon, Yoplait, and others.

Here's the whole article; with radio broadcast:
Below is a joint statement from Clyde Cleveland and Jeffrey Smith. Clyde and Jeffrey produced an incredible raido show about GMOs. The show is available for free here.

In 1991-2, FDA scientists warned their superiors that GM foods could produce hard-to-detect allergens, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems. They uniformly recommended comprehensive, long-term safety studies. The FDA’s political appointees in charge, however, completely ignored and even denied the concerns of their own scientists and allowed GM foods on the market without a single safety study, and no labeling.
Now the fears of the FDA scientists have been realized. Based on overwhelming evidence of harm, on May 19, 2009, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine called for the government to institute an immediate moratorium on GM foods, and in the meantime, for all doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets to everyone. They list reproductive, immune, gastrointestinal, and accelerated aging problems among the list of outcomes from animal feeding studies. In fact, GMOs may represent one of the greatest health and environmental dangers ever faced by humanity.
Unfortunately, this conclusive research has been and continues to be completely ignored and even repressed by the government that is supposed to be protecting us. Michael Taylor, the political appointee responsible for the 1992 decision to approve GM foods without required tests or labels, was the outside attorney for the biotech giant Monsanto prior to his work at the FDA, and later became the company’s vice president. Last year, Taylor was appointed the US “Food Safety Czar” by the Obama administration. That’s right. The person who is probably responsible for more food-related illnesses and deaths than any other individual in history is now in charge of our food safety. Numerous appointees at the USDA also had close ties to the biotech industry, including Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, who was named the Biotech Governor of the Year in 2001.
It is time to empower people with knowledge and choices to avoid GMOs, and reclaim a healthier non-GMO food supply. We offer abundant evidence of harm, Non-GMO Shopping Guides to facilitate healthier choices, and an awareness of how collectively we, as informed citizens, can dictate terms on this most important issue.
If we cede our power and responsibility for food consumption choices to the federal government, these government institutions, corrupted by powerful individuals and companies, will not only fail to protect us, but will actually use their power to protect those who are harming us, our children, and our environment. It is time for all citizens who value our health and lives to use our inherent rights as individuals and put an end to this travesty. We need your help to recruit millions of Americans to refuse to purchase GM foods. Let’s use the power of the free market to save the health of generations to come.
Jeffrey Smith
International bestselling author Jeffrey M. Smith is the leading spokesperson on the health dangers of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). His first book Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies about the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating became the world’s best-selling and # 1 rated book on GMOs. His second book, Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods, is the authoritative work that presents irrefutable evidence that GMOs are harmful. Former UK environment minister Michael Meacher says the revelations in Genetic Roulette may “change the global course of events this century.” Mr. Smith has united leaders to support The Campaign for Healthier Eating in America , a revolutionary industry and consumer movement to remove GMOs from the US food supply. He is the executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology, producer of the films Hidden Dangers in Kids’ Meals and Your Milk on Drugs—Just Say No!, writes an internationally syndicated column, Spilling the Beans, has a regular blog on the popular Huffington Post, and is well represented on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Corn, Soy & Canola
Like the FDA and many others have said, "guaranteeing a product to be free of GM material is virtually impossible."
So do not eat any corn, soy or canola, because it has all been contaminated. Anything that has these or their derivatives as ingredients should be avoided.
This includes:
High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn chips, Corn flour, Corn oil, corn oil margarine, Corn starch, corn sugar, corn syrup, popcorn, cornmeal, cornstarch.
Soy lecithin, Soybeans, tempeh, tofu, soy milk, soy cheese, miso, soy flour, soy sauce, tamari sauce, teriyaki, shoyu, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and edamame.
Canola oil.
Personal responsibility always trumps government regulation
I stand fully behind this movement and have already been promoting non-GMO info for nearly two years now. It's the only way to beat these guys.
On a similar topic, I wonder how many people realize how quick we could put a company under if we were really motivated. My guess is that with a really big media awareness (which would require what... 5% to 20% boycott???), wouldn't an industry giant (in any industry) lose stock price and have people running scared from it within a week? How hard could this really be to accomplish?
To take down and entire industry that's monopolized, all we would need to do is provide alternative products/processes to what they offer. For example, one mayor suggested that they could put up their own cell tower and offer cell service at cost if they could coordinate the tech side with a few other towns. Local produce, energy, news aggregators and communication is about all we'd need, isn't it?
