If any of Ron's family or campaign is reading this... about Iowa
Submitted by treber on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 05:34I watched the Iowa TV special. It made me want to cry. Most of us are here because of videos like "A NEW HOPE"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG2PUZoukfA
When you watch these videos, you get a feeling of pride, of hope, like we really CAN do this. You can't take your eyes off the screen. It's like saying "I BELIEVE" in the movie polar express.
When i watched the special i had a hard time getting through it all. It was boring. I felt, for the first time, that maybe we don't have a chance.
This is from somebody who works for you 12 hours a day, does believe, has personally registered over 200 new voters for YOU.
Please listen to me. YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT WORKS! Put out one of those video's. cut it down to 5 minutes. run it over and over.
There really is very little of that special that can be salvaged.
I would send this to the campaign, but they would only send me a polite email after the show aired thanking me for my comments and reminding me to donate.
Dr. Paul you are our last best hope. Listen to us. We're telling you what works. We haven't let you down yet.

Make your OWN campaign....
I would agree that the YouTube videos are a big part of why we are all here. We all care so much and are obsessed with helping this man win and can hardly work our normal jobs. Ron Paul 2008 is my web home page and the first place I look everyday. I want him to win so badly that I gave more than I should last night and can hardly deal with anyone else who might win. I think my face will be in the toilet if he doesn't do really well in the next weeks to a month. But with these feelings are thoughts of getting out there. This has never been a thought with any other candidate and this is what I'm thinking.
I believe it all comes at the local level and we have to Educate the people one by one to get them moving. The older generation is tough, and it kills me that they all want to vote for someone who can win.... However, the message is still American and can capture ANY demographic. This SAME message is why millions of people immigrated and risked their lives to be here. For some this was 10 years ago, others 100-200 years. Either way, a major sacrifice was made to be here and those ideas surround America and the constitution and today Ron Paul. God Bless him!!
But litterally because we don't have the media, you have to explain why you are so behind Ron Paul and what he means to the future of this country. For example, working 6 months out of the year for taxes, this war, the Patriot Act and the future debt... Know your audience and you will get them everytime. You can easily explain how RP is the champion of these. NO ONE ELSE IS!!! Be creative and go to Iowa, or where ever to help. Write letters and leave them on cars in parking lots, door to door etc. Is there a way to get these Youtube videos on cd? If we can get them to watch just one, they will vote for RP.... Get their email and send them a link... Then after you have handed out the cd explain how easy it is to be a part of caucus and get them there. It's no longer about getting his name out there, you need to get them to the polls!! Where, when and how much time it will require them. Iowans are good people who really care about this country and also complain about the same things as everyone else. However, they are overwelmed with the choices and media attention to everyone else that they don't see it. The TV is not going to help him get elected.... we will!
Our last days of being glued to these websites are almost over and we all really need to hit the streets or phones to educate and bring voters to the Caucuses and Primaries. In Iowa, you just have to be registered and and you can show up that night and register on site for the party. All of this is easy, but it requires some hand holding and work. My parents and relatives live there and I dream of getting their precints to win. And, I'm going to try. I have my own plan in my head and this week and next I'll be at it - ONE BY ONE. I am still optimistic and dream of helping RP change this country.
I will be done with this website soon because being here doesn't bring votes! I encourage you all do figure out your OWN campaign and make this happen. What do you feel comfortable doing and make it happen!! We can celebrate on the dailypaul when have accomplished our mission!
Hope for a New America and Iowa Special are Basically the same!
Take into consideration license agreements w/ artist and media outlets which we are not bound too on the internet. Next expand a 9 min video into 30 mins. Then finally focus on the Iowa Straw Poll and not the South Carolina Debate ...and you have essentially the same product. I almost think they used "A New Hope" as a template. Please keep in mind they are going for the 45 to 75 age demographic in Iowa. You know Iowa a rural farm state...not NYC or Boston. Please keep the audience in mind. I liked it! I think some are being to critical on a day that should be full of positives. We have a lot of media to to track. My humble opinion...
We can't use the YouTube vids
As most of them contain copyrighted material from the networks.
Last best hope? Stop that kind of talk.
No. We have to stop this kind of talk. I agree with everything you say except that. Individualism requires that we are all the last best hope. We are Ron Paul because Ron Paul isnt just a person but a message of liberty and freedom that we have to embody in our daily actions. Deifying Ron Paul means you can negate responsibility if he fails. Failure against tyranny ISNT an option.

Ron needs more than just money. Send this strategy to mail@ronpaul2008.com and also to press@ronpaul2008.com if these ideas make sense to you

I live in California…
…..in my state you win elections by spending money on attack ads in the LA, San Diego and Bay Area media markets. But the rest of the country and Iowa in particular plays by a different game. Retail politics is huge in Iowa. Positive infomercials and friendly ads like the Paul Family Holiday greeting work in fly over country.
Don’t forget that Drew Ivers, the guy running the Iowa campaign, got Pat Buchanan a 2nd place finish there in 1996. While I always thought, and still believe that a 3rd or 4th in Iowa would be acceptable, if Ron can somehow capture the 2nd spot he will win New Hampshire the following Tuesday and lock up the nomination.
As it stands now by February 5th it may be a Huckabee vs. Paul race, but Huckabee will never be acceptable to a majority of Republicans west of the Rockies, in the upper mid-west nor the northeast. And Ron will always get a sizeable percentage of the southern vote and a strong majority in Texas.
El Dorado
Perfect for Iowa
Ever been there?
I agree
Right on the money.......
campaign management is 3rd rate
I don't want to come across as negative, but *pretending* everything is just dandy at the level of campaign management, when it isn't, is going to cost a lot of votes.
From what I can see, Ron Paul is off the charts amazing. The message? As Dr. Paul has said the message has no flaws. The grass roots? An elemental force which is reshaping American politics by accomplishing the impossible.
But the official campaign management? While doubtless well intentioned, as are we all, the official campaign management is clearly mediocre; the weak link throttling the entire operation.
You wanted money? We gave you money. Money enough to hire the most competent political PR oversight out there, I would venture. But whether the money is enough for that or not, the grassroots clearly has some "superstars" who can do a better job than is being done and would probably work for near free.
Don't blow the money! If you've got the money to pay for a half hour infomercial then why isn't there enough foresight to plan a half hour "fireside chat" of the sort that Ross Perot used to fire up his campaign? It sure isn't for lack of message nor candidate; I expect Dr. Paul would be fabulous in such an arena.
There are a lot of aspects of Dr. Paul's message which don't fit into soundbites and AREN'T being adequately communicated through the media interviews. For example - my favorite example - Dr. Paul is widely BELIEVED to be weak on national defense when, in fact, he is actually the strongest candidate - although ALTERNATIVE. A half hour infomercial could put across the full picture in a way that is not currently occuring...to our woe.
I am not anxious to be perceived as negative, but it needs to be said: the campaign management has done their job in getting things started, and we all appreciate that. However, the management has not been able to scale up to the importance of the race, the high quality of the candidate, the message, and the constituency. The campaign management, I'm sure, want Dr. Paul to win as much as anyone - and they have given greatly. Now they need to be thinking about giving some resignations or reassignments. It's not like there isn't plenty of other work to be done. Heck, I'm STILL waiting for the half finished pdf of a "national defense" brochure to be tightened up, finished and sent out.
Bill of Rights /Amendment X: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Do you need a politician or judge to "interpret" those 28
Everyone is an armchair campaign manager
We're stacked heavily with the age demograph that "A New Hope" appeals to. We are weak in the 55 and older demographic, and it's that demograph that go to the polls on election day and elects Presidents. Not everyone likes their politics over-dubbed with rock music.
It's the End of the Line for Ron Paul and his supporters

I'm 45
i always vote. But the positive comments about the special are making me feel a little better.
Maybe we're different?
You said: "When you watch these videos, you get a feeling of pride, of hope, like we really CAN do this. You can't take your eyes off the screen."
You may not understand why; While watching the special I did get a feeling of "pride, of hope, like we really CAN do this." I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
...and I don't understand why you were bored -- leave it! -- don't try to justify it... I understand that different things hit different people different ways...and you are expressing your opinion: I'm just asking you to widen your perspective a few miniscule notches.
I'm from the mid-Atlantic; but I have had conservative farm family in Iowa.
I watched this, all the way through -- I felt the message is there, right on! It is strong, and it is delivered mostly by Dr. Paul; it is Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul; all the way! Boring? To whom? Not me!
Short formats are good, too, yes!
I'm not opposing spreading short forms around -- I hear you. But don't short change this production!
...And I donated what I could not afford, too! (Because I can not afford to loose the Constitution!)

The youtube videos are
The youtube videos are superior to anything I've seen from the campaign. I think hq should put whoever made "Stop Dreaming" in charge. There's a way to frame Dr Paul where his ideas come alive on screen. It's time to put someone else in charge of video.

Plus your video link is broken
You may want to fix that.
fixed
thank you
The internet audience is a different breed
This special is great for Iowa TV. Your making a fatal mistake of thinking everyone is like you. This is for the old school media types, who have not heard Ron Paul speak and don't know his issues.
This video address's them all and gives all his positions and reasons.
What works on the internet will NOT work for the TV viewers.
This is a great video.
Your opinion is different than mine. which is fine.
But I stick by my analysis.

Could not have put it better.
