30 Large Corporations Get Obamacare Waivers

Via USA Today: Nearly a million workers won't get a consumer protection in the U.S. health reform law meant to cap insurance costs because the government exempted their employers.

Thirty companies and organizations, including McDonald's (MCD) and Jack in the Box (JACK), won't be required to raise the minimum annual benefit included in low-cost health plans, which are often used to cover part-time or low-wage employees.

The Department of Health and Human Services, which provided a list of exemptions, said it granted waivers in late September so workers with such plans wouldn't lose coverage from employers who might choose instead to drop health insurance altogether.

So..um..is there some

So..um..is there some government paperwork that one group can fill out to get a waiver? If so, we should just form groups in our towns, called the United Federation of somesuch and get waivers. If groups of 1300 can do it, we surely could get that many to join..?

this is a GREAT IDEA!!!

Even if its just a publicity stunt to get the press to cover the ridiculousness of the situation.

honestly who did not see this coming?

Now when this goes to court I wonder how the judges are going to rule? Probably the same illigal way they always do. Where in the uS of a can you find a law abiding judge anyway?

So much for "equal protection under the law."

These traitors have completely ignored the rule of law and the constitution. This should be punishable as a capital offense. This government ran by the bankers has lost all credibility and the people should disobey everything that they do or say....Personally, I have been "judgement proofing" myself and my business in preparation to back up what I preach.

"of", not "under".

It is the law which is being protected. But you are right. This is the most abused legal concept today, and a huge threat to liberty.

this is actually really funny.

Big government begets big corporations and vice versa.

Note that big corporations are better able to arm-twist the government; this is why they are big.

If the goverment were small, the smaller businessess would regain their nimble advantages and the big corporations would topple of their own weight or break into smaller pieces to compete.

As long as Tyranasaurus Federal is around, the corporations find safety in size.

Some WIN, Some LOSE : Big Government Decides

Got friends in high government places? No problem for you. PLUS the losers subsidize the winners. Best of all Big Government kills off your competition for you by riding the poorly connected into the ground with the full bore of government program burdens that the winners are excused from.

It's a blatant admission that Obamacare

is too expensive for employers to keep health coverage for low-pay workers. What's not admitted is that many workers will lose their jobs in industries not exempted.

Ya...and what about the SMALL

Ya...and what about the SMALL businesses that keep this country running..like THEY can afford it? Non compliance is the main issue here...

Which corporations?

Anyone find anything with a list?

Mike, I tried to find it also and I had no luck.

30 Corporations and 1M workers.

From story:

"The biggest single waiver, for 351,000 people, was for the United Federation of Teachers Welfare Fund, a New York union providing coverage for city teachers. The waivers are effective for a year and were granted to insurance plans and companies that showed that employee premiums would rise or that workers would lose coverage without them, Santillo says."

I agree with your comment wirebaugh...

I do not think they can pick, and choose which employees/employers to exempt from their assinine forced insurance.
