NYT on John Dennis: The Republican Actually Running Against Pelosi

By Jesse McKinley | New York Times

SAN FRANCISCO — John Dennis, a candidate for California’s Eighth Congressional District, recently stood in a gay bar in the Castro district of San Francisco and came out of the closet — ever so slowly — to a table of six older gay men.

"O.K., we’re all sitting here, we all have a drink here?" Mr. Dennis said, taking a deep breath. "O.K.: I’m a Republican."

The West coast consistently

The West coast consistently votes against their own best interest. This is the problem with the majority of people in this country; they are too focused on the brand name.

too many Americans own TV sets

if just half the population of USA got rid of their TV sets and started to read books my guess is that most Liberty candidates would be leading in election polls.

East Coast Elected Nancy Pelosi's Father 3X as Baltimore Mayor

The West Coast has no monopoly on stupidity.

Baltimore Mayor Thomas "Tommy" J. D'Alesandro Jr., Nancy Pelosi's father, served three terms. He was a popular local politician from the Little Italy section of Baltimore, Maryland. Just a year before Pelosi was born, her father won election to the same U.S. House of Representatives in which she would serve many years later.

Nancy Pelosi was born Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro on March 26, 1940, in Baltimore. Lived on Albemarle Street in Little Italy.

Strong Support for John Dennis. Liberty Candidate.

You really must read more

You really must read more than the first sentence.
I did say this is a problem with a majority of people.

I threw in West coast without being precise. what I meant was: the rarefied liberal nitwits that typically inhabit areas along the western coastline.
They are a particularly noisome group of meddlers, on par with the Trotskyite neo-conservative vermin.

Read your initial comment. OK by me.

Read what you wrote & see no contradiction at all. Maybe there is one, I just cannot see it.

The more you read Pelosi's history, the more you might agree with your comment & mine.

Good score!

To whatever extent the NYT is still "the paper of record" this story can cause a nice ripple effect.

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

What is this quote all about?

"And in a city where gay voters make a difference, he says Ms. Pelosi has not done enough to pass federal protections against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. "

I guess this is where I differ.

Words and nothing more

I'm wondering if he meant 'federal protections'

in the sense that they would target employee discrimination in institutional, federal, public sector positions.

Kinda like how the Civil Rights Act was supposed to be before they tacked on the overreaching 'all private business must abide by this federal regulation' clause.

I've read other Dennis articles, and he usually argues that the ENDA Act sounds good on paper, but in actual practice, might force gay shopkeepers to hire anti-gay, or hateful employees.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_Non-Discrimination_Act

Then there's also his support of repeal for Don't Ask, Don't Tell- which would essentially allow for 'federal protections against military workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.'

If that's a stretch, there's also a good chance he was misquoted. :)

Tells you all you need to know about Queen Nancy

When her best support comes from NYC and the District of Criminals.

Negative article

It starts with "coming out of the closet" which I believe has a double meaning in English (why not "went to the loo"? why mention it in the first place???), and ends with "totally unimpressed". The rest most people will skip.

"Out of the closet"

Means, admitting you're gay, usually, or more generally, telling everyone a secret about yourself, in this case, that he's Republican.

The writer was being cute.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

Great publicity!

:D

There was nowhere to leave remarks!

I can't believe these boneheads are rejecting Dennis! Don't they know Pelosi has done nothing for them?

NY Times Is Still Referred to as a Newspaper. Fish Wrap.

Hard to get good writers for newspapers. I know. I was in the business for a while. I was pleased that they made no distinction between what I wrote verses news. If it would generate reader interest, it was printed.

Newspapers are tamer now. Hardly worth reading.

All the best to Mr John Dennis, Candidate for US Congress representing San Francisco.
