Got pulled over this morning doing 55 in a 55 coming to the store.

Coming to work about 30 minutes ago, I passes a State Trooper on the side of the road that had someone pulled over. I was going along at 50-55 coming up a hill in my daily driver, which is also the stores delivery truck. Needless to say in a 15 year old Ford 7.3 with a tow truck transmission speeding comes hard up hill.

I got about 3 miles down the road and saw blue lights in mirrors as I was turning onto the road to the store. I pulled into the turning lane to let him go on by. Well, he stopped behind me and got out.

1st thing he said as he was walking up was,(in a polite voice and not all power tripped, nice guy) "you were going 55 when you went by me."

Then he recognized me and said, " I didn't realize that was you, when you went by me you were going 55 still, the law says you are supposed to slow down to 15 miles under the posted limit and move into the other lane."

I said, "okay thank you for letting me know" he said "bye Jonathan be safe" and got in the car.

My question are Troopers ticketing now for going the speed limit? I have never heard of this before, I moved into the other lane as much as possible cause of oncoming traffic, but didn't purposely slow cause it was a wide open country road with good visibility, and he and the other car were off the road.

If I had to guess the State is pushing them to get funds no matter what, increase the revenue stream.

I am lucky to know the two Troopers that live close both are customers, both pretty good guys that are not thugs, but have been Troopers a long time and believe many of the same things we here do. He would have to have shot up well over a hundred to get back in his car, and catch up to me, why?

I guess this is what we have to look forward to more and more, the State and cities pushing the guys to increase revenue, by tickets.

Instead of one of the very few good guys in law enforcement this morning this could have been one of the many low IQ young thugs that stopped me. We haven't even seen the worse begin yet.

Many states passed similar laws recently, allegedly

in response to some troopers being hit by passing vehicles.

Not all states specify a numeric reduction but simply list it as "safe" speed.

Some put emphasis on changing lanes with no allowance for the fact that maybe there is already another car in that lane so you can't. I'm not sure how that is supposed to work out.

Here in Louisiana, you are supposed to opt for changing lanes, and if you can't, slow to a reasonable and safe speed so as not to endanger the officer.

Of course, anything more than 3-5 mph is a danger to the officer at that close proximity.

The proper solution is don't pull people over so close to the travel lane, opt for an exit or parking lot if you can, and if all else fails, use the passenger side of the vehicle to communicate.

What I don't understand is, this was never a problem for the last 100 years or so we've had cars and trucks. Why now?

Actually it happens more often than you think

But it is just like Murders in LA or Kidnappings in Phoenix,To often to be "New News".

If officers were smart

they would simply go up on the off road side of the vehicle

This is becoming standard practice

.

You don't say what state you are in.

Here in Texas we have a law that says you are supposed to move into the middle lane when passing a police officer on the side of the road. This is because so many people get hit by passing cars, not just cops. People used to slow down and move over out of common sense and common courtesy, but now we have to coerce them with threats of fines or jail to do the decent thing. Driving skills have deteriorated here immensely since they quit having drivers education in the schools. Anyone can get a license, you can have people help you take the test. Stop lights and stop signs have become optional, or so it seems.

Alabamastan, is my home

2 lane country road, rural area. Going up hill, straddled the center line till I was past him, then got over quickly due to on coming traffic. Going about 50-55. I move over every time traffic permitting.

Two lane?

He couldn't write you anyways,You are only required to slow down,Must be at least 4 lane to require moving over.

Yeah, it was ether stop in the middle of the road and wait

for the oncoming traffic to come by, or keep going my speed on past him straddling the line and get over quick.

I think it had much more to do with revenue enhancement than safety.

I suppose in certain areas

This is totally possible,"At the Officer's discretion"

Stop lights and Stop signs

I call it the two second rule,If side traffic comes up to a sign and thinks it will be more than two seconds to impact from pulling out in front of you,They WILL test your antilock brake system.

You should have ask what the citation number

of the law was so you can look it up.

In Az it is ARS 28-775

Most states have adopted pretty much the same wording.

All courts are corporate entities whose primary function is to

make money to support the people in the system. In natural law there has to be an injured party before an infraction occurs and damages are charged. In most traffic stops, like yours, there is no injured party.

What are they going to do when people just start staying at home?

Ralph?

I feel as you do but,I have been working on the side of the freeway for 33 years and have been clipped twice physically.I hate to say but if there was any common sense and decency left in people a law like this would not have to be passed.I am lucky to be alive,Next time I may not be around to see what the guy gets for "Injuring" me.

Agreed.

Well said.

"Move over" law

Most states have now passed "Move over" laws,it is now required that you move over and slow down when passing by a vehicle parked on the side shoulder. As much as I hate new laws, I have to say I like this one.As a person that works on the side of the road for a living, I have found that no one ever has the courtesy anymore to move over.Ever change a tire on the left side of a vehicle while on a freeway?A person will be lucky to live through it in the least.

ODell,I bet you had to spray the ford with starting fluid to get it started,Right?

As long as people aren't

As long as people aren't rubbernecking going 30 by them. Really screws up the highway, even when they are 2 lanes over doing that crap.

I've seen this also

Worked countless wrecks,Have watched many happen because of this,Once had one simple wreck turn into four.

No, but if it gets below 60 I better remember to plug it in

I don't have any working glow plugs, so I have a timer set up to kick on for 30 minutes once every 2 hrs through the night and then come on solid for an hour before I leave in the mornings. The truck is 15 years old but only has 161,000 on the 7.3 engine, and flat bed with tool boxes, 10,000 lb winch, a tow truck tranny, I can start of in 3rd gear on flat ground. And, it runs great other than having to be plugged in in the cold.

Yeah,The Ford

I do not know why they even put glow plugs in those engines, they always burnout.Give it a few more miles and even if you plug it in, it will not start without spray.I am a Ford man,Yet embarrassed about the engineering of Both the 6.9 and the 7.3.Give me an old worn out Dodge Cummins turbo,I will be happier.
