MASSIVE GATHERING
Submitted by skylar on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 19:45
It seems we need something that Old Media cannot deny. A rally has been proposed. Let us think about the logistics and of course "weather" as this can put a damper on attendance in SNOW bound states in January.
A couple of thoughts....
Is it better to find a warm state?
As the momentum gets going, should a larger one be in the works for Spring? (hoping it gets that far).
Should we find music artists that will come out?
A MASSIVE GATHERING (Freedom Concert?) will show that this is not a few people sitting on their computers at home. This is real people, willing to travel and show some support for freedom.
Feedback?

Time Square New York City Jan 2008
Just a thought.... For my First Post.
Ron Paul Supporters in New York City at Time Square should be encouraged to show their support during the New Year's Eve and Ball Dropping Event. The gathering is already a default as it is every year. Always massive media coverage for this event. It would be nice to see tons of Paul supporters there during this coverage.
RE: Massive gathering
It may be beneficial if it was mixed in with major campaigning by many of those visitors to a major rally. I am in Naples, Florida, and have some of the nicest weather in the county. 45 minutes north is Ft. Myers where McCain and Romney, maybe others, have made appearances.
There are a couple of fairly large arenas in the area that could accommodate thousands. Lodging is a little pricey this time of year, but not the parking and other problems like you'd see in big cities like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando.
Florida is an extremely critical state. We could use the rally to kick off or end a week or weekend door to door campaign just before our primary January 29th. Hopefully, some of the crowd from NH and Iowa would be ready for some sunshine campaigning. And few states need more help due to the age and their lacking internet usage, than Florida. Even with delegates cut in half, it is an extremely critical state.

March to Liberty!
I also think that a decentralized series of gatherings would be more suitable, as not everyone can buy an air-ticket and motel room.
If you look at this page, there are TONS of places named Liberty:
http://stuff.mit.edu/geo?location=liberty
I didn't check if there is one in every state, but I am fairly sure there is one within driving distance to everybody. So let's march to Liberty for Liberty!
Let's plan for after all the
Let's plan for after all the primaries are basically done. Think around March or so. No matter how RP does in each state, it will be a sensation if done right.
It will be hard, but let's MAKe a holiday, instead of commemorating one. The first time the media talked about Guy Flakes when that had really nothing to do with it, and the last was the Tea Party which, if by estimations public schooling is doing it's intended job, most people dont remember anything about.
Keep it simple.
Have every state designate the areas, larger states like California and Illinois will have more than one to accomodate, while lesser populated states like Idaho will determine what's best for them.
We need something so big, so palpable, that it effects everyone who witnesses it.
Every RP supporter will need to be a part of it.
Think as if it were something you saw in a dream. Unreal almost. Surreal. But plausible.

South Carolina would be a great spot - Ron Paul is skyrocketing
For a warm weather rally South Carolina would be a great spot - Ron Paul is skyrocketing there or even Nevada but somewhat colder.
We've already got something
We've already got something brewing here in Western Washington... I can't wait!

Keep it Grassroots!!
Keep it simple! Keep it grassroots!
Each state should designate a city. I would say wherever the state capitol is or wherever the most media outlets are.
Give it a month or more lead. We need to start finding new supporters! We just had the huge donation day, now we need to use the momentum to attract more people.
I'd almost say no bands, no speakers, just supporters! We dont need to waste money on these things. Just having a gathering of supporters is enough. Make it a Giant picnic. Or a City Walk... Anything. The more stuff you have, the harder it is to organize.
One reason these Money Bombs have been so successful is the simplicity! All you have to do is type in a few things and done. If you start talking about bands and speakers... then you need equipment, a venue, etc. there is so much planning that goes into it. the more impromptu it is, the more grassroots it is.
Call it the million man walk... anything. just keep it simple. simple. simpleeeee.
I'm going to toss out Valentines and April 18th. The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.
Here's my suggestion...50 States, 50 Speakers, 50 bands!
We have them in each of the 50 states...or maybe just the Super Tuesday states....but we have top notch speakers like Dr. Paul, Judge Napalitano, etc... but the thing is...we don't know which of the gatherings Ron Paul is going to turn up at! In addition we get local entertainers, performers, activities... For example, in Alaska you may have a snowmobile race and rally... meanwhile in Florida you may have a boat show or a beach party! We need to have fun while were gathering, that will draw many more people... at the same time, having 50 locations will make it much easier to get to.
We can simultaneously broadcast to all locations. But one will get Ron Paul live, another the Judge, and so on...

LIMIT THE SCOPE
The ideas I've been reading thus far are terrific, but there are lead times involved in all of these things. Nov. 5th had 3 weeks to germinate, and Tea Party had 1 month.
Christmas is upon us so practically speaking you have 1 month til Super Tuesday, Feb. 5th (I think).
If Ron Paul goes independent, then you have an entire year to do one of these Nationwide gatherings.
For now, limit the scope to your own state, and use that new Meetup tool to tie each meetup group within your state into your capital. That will be plenty big, you can get local talent/celebrities, whatever. You'll have more ability to be creative within your state.
If each state location wants to have a video screen, we could probably raise money for those within the local meetups, and figure out the costs of connecting them.
By staying close to home, we would have more time to talk to people and find out whats working to introduce undecided or non-RP people to RP. And finally, we could coordinate state infrastructure to cover our bases for delegates, which is the half the battle.
Limit the scope during this compressed schedule. Better to have many success's than 1 mediocre outcome, and the risk of this being a fubar or not coming together at all are too great to give up on the opportunity for simultaneous state gatherings connected in spirit, if not by telco. In this case, LESS IS MORE.

Massive gathering in Florida
Everyone wants to be in Florida during the winter, and you know Florida has a big primary on January 29th. How about a gathering in Florida?
South Florida
Have a few spare rooms peeps can crash in if they drive from outta state.
We Just DID !!!
It's called the Tea Party... I have seen footage from all around the World having "Tea Parties" for Dr. Paul. Now it's time to make that magic come together w/ technology and show how Tens of Thousand of Ron Paul supporters from all across the world came together...for Liberty, Prosperity and Peace. And then that Cool "Ron Paul Nation rEVOLution" logo. There is a "Shot" in the Austin Tea Party where the parade of supporters walk bye the camera for 3 mins. straight. I saw a Tea Party film from Australia and I'm sure there are some from Europe. Of Course every meet up across the country did something. We met at a Bar. What did your meet-up do? Let's see them!!! All at once with a good "Ron Paul Song" and NO MSM Talking head clips. It could be powerful enough to be used by the campaign if the Broadcast and copy write laws are properly followed. Just a 2nd thought, that may be more practical a task that Ron-Stock or Paulapoloza. We could also use it for canvasing via "The Laptop Brigade"

I propose Florida too

LETS DO IT.
On the Gulf of Mexico...nice and warm
Compared to Boston. Ron Pauls district on top of it. Make it a huge fundraiser. Invite bands like Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Tommy James, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Neil Diamond.
Hooters girls distributing free frozen yogurt.
Yep. Raise 100 million in a week. That oughtta do her.

Winter Rally ???
I am sure that we would be glad to help in South Florida...say the weekend before our primary Jan. 29th ? An East Coast Convoy for Ron Paul ?? 95 South for Dr. Paul ??? Pick up the Harley and Jet Bike Guys for a South Florida for Freedom Fest ??? What is that 1 week before SUPER DUPER TUESDAY, or what ever they call in now? Trevor Does Laundry Tour on South Beach... I could go on and on with this. Bottom line is South Florida has 74-84* Januarys' 80% of the month w/ 1 Cold weekend.... Best Odds for an effective, pre-primary event. I could start looking for hotel deals and RV Parks etc.... Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, the Florida Keys. Plus we have Dean Santoro running for a House Seat as a Ron Paul Republican. I'm sure he would get behind this idea and help us w/ the park or location obstacles...Just thinking out loud now...let me know if this sounds good ...coronaconcepts@msn.com

Bad idea
Bad idea. We need to spend what little time we have left by getting in front of NON Ron Paul supporters. At this point of time, it is a waste of time and money to spend time with other Ron Paul supporters.
Knock on doors or pick up the phone! Contact NON Ron Paul supporters.
Austin, Texas has a number advantages weather wise and
location wise. Being in the center of the country is good geographically and politically. Austin is a terrific town from everyone I have ever talked to.
What the heck, it's down the street fro the Doc's district. U Texas Austin is right there...I would love to go and I might actually be able to.
I imagine the blimp would come in handy.
We want it more than they do so we hang together in a big way.

Philly was perfect
Philadelphia is perfect. Right in the middle between new york and DC, and close to a lot of cites.
I live in Baltimore and am totally willing to drive 2 hours. But theres no way I would have driven 8 hours to Boston for the tea party.
I dont see the point in having it be in some remote (but warm) city. A massive crowd would require tons of plan tickets + taxis or tons of gas. All that money could be far better spent.
Sounds like a job for
The Ron Paul Blimp!
edit: strange, this post was meant as a reply to the one that said we need arial photos to show how many people showed up.

Ron Paul is my President.
Here is another idea
We have one for the east west and central or Florida, California, Texas. If it is done before the early primaries if not then a super tuesday state that is in the south. Everyone goes south for the rally and we link them together with live feeds on big screens so we can walk by and actually talk to each other and even watch each others events live and we could take turns with the preformances. We invite anyone and everyone. Call it

State Delegates
The idea for everyone to go their own state capital is superior because it allows everyone to coordinate with their own state meetup groups, it saves money that we've all just spent, and it would allow each state to focus on getting delegates for their primary.
The gathering thing can be rather massive (which is what we want) so to try to get all RP supporters traveling accross the country or regionally is less appealing considering how compressed the calendar is.
Think globally - Act locally. People power and poll power.
Each state on the 7th of January was as good of an idea as I've heard, and we can get people interested in being delegates.
Make your state the best state meetup gathering.
Ronstock
If its called that,I want the "naming credit" See first post. Show me the love!
Maybe...
It is time to start thinking outside the box...Woodstock was result of a grassroots effort and the power of "word of mouth" is amazing. Lets pick the location and the date...lets make it happen!
