County next to mine is going to charge over 4K and require a permit to have 4 roosters or more

Damn this pisses me off. We have more than 4 roosters. so much for being self sufficient and raising your own chickens.

So people

using roosters for illegal cockfighting will pay?

They're punishing the wrong people.

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

and another thing...

it really does seem like the corporate facists in charge are trying to get rid of all the heirloom seeds, plants, and maybe now all the heritage breeds of animals that would let us be self-sufficient...we'll be left with those chickens that can't walk and die at 5 wks old.
they will have to be artificially inseminated by some secret technique so we can't breed our own. Monterey county has tons of those big agriculture corporations. chickens are a farm animal that kids can learn to raise and care for and instead they want my kids playing call of duty war video games.

Everyone and their friends

Everyone and their friends need to help out with this from whatever county. They need to go to the meeting and say "Hell no". These are elected people and have to listen to whom their ridiculous ordinances apply.

How did those rooters find their way into your cages and

lock themselves in, that would be my answer.

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine

OK, I am all about the chicken coop...

And I really believe you have the right to have all the roosters you want... But I find 4 to be... um... about 2 too many...
On rooster has enough... um... cockadoodle to do all the girls you need to be self sufficient. Are you trying to run a business, too? They boys eat but don't give me food back, and even when they DO turn into food they are tough and not yummy, making me feel I wasted feed on them...
Why so many roos?

Chicken and dumplings

That's about all your surplus roosters would be good for. Their meat is too tough for anything else;)

Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietam servitutem. ("I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude"). Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 30 January 1787.

we have about 30 chickens

we have about 30 chickens they are free range on our property and as long a rooster isn't mean we usually keep him. they are the kids pets, too. No we don't eat the chickens but if things get bad we would. We have an orpington rooster, a phoenix, a silkie and a couple others. Also that way you can put the silkie rooster with a silkie hen to get silkie chicks. No it's not a business but I have given chickens away to friends and family and mean roosters to those who eat them....

How are they going to

prove they're all your roosters?

Is that a lot of roosters?

Defend Liberty!

every time the hens hatch

every time the hens hatch eggs, half are roosters. So if you have hens hatching eggs, by the time you can tell the chicks are roosters, you are violating the law I guess. Or maybe as soon as they hatch? You can't tell they are roosters until they start crowing. So basically you can't breed your own chickens without breaking the law.

I can't have any roosters

but if things get real bad, I am going to get one and stick him in the basement then let him out with the ladies for an afternoon delight. LOL
