Apparently a lot of Americans are willing to put up with this. I would never fly commercial. That's what they invented cars and trains for.
Or, if you must fly, hire a private carrier. Find a pilot who will take you where you want to go.

I believe it's time for everyone to just stop using the airlines
I haven't flown in years (1994) for the simple fact that I didn't like the way things were going back then. I felt violated from the time I drove in to the airport. If everyone found alternatives to flight, the airlines would go belly up in a matter of weeks and this would all end quickly.
