Should we support Dodd in his Fight agains the FISA Bill
Submitted by oquirrh on Mon, 12/17/2007 - 23:57
We need help wherever it comes from.
Dodd, a margin-of-error presidential candidate, vowed to filibuster the FISA bill on the floor if it granted large telecom companies such as Verizon and AT&T immunity from civil lawsuits for allegedly cooperating with the government. The Intel Committee bill did just that.

Sam Seder of Air America has a petition to Senator Reid condeming him for enabling the Bush administration and telecoms to escape all accountability for their illegal spying on American citizens. That petition can be seen here: http://samsedershow.com/

I don't know about the rest
I don't know about the rest of you folks. I didn't read the comments... But I for one DO support Senator Dodd in his quest with holding telecommunications companies responsible for their illegal and immoral wiretaps.

Come on guys this is more important than any online poll, or thanking your favorite anchorperson. This is what the revolution is all about.
"Immunity" for Violating the Constitution
The proposed bill to grant immunity to telecommunications companies that violate the rights of American citizens is an example of the arrogance of our politicians. Neither the President nor the Congress can grant immunity to themselves, nor immunity to any other entity for violating the Constitution. Let me say that again. Neither the President, nor the Congress are above the Supreme Law of the Land, the Constitution.
The Bill of Rights, the first ten amentments of the Constitution define some of the Rights of the American people. Any laws passed by Congress that violate these rights are invalid. For example, the Fourth Amendment, Freedom From Unreasonable Search: This Amendment defines the inherent Right of the American people to be secure in their homes, their papers and their affairs from intrusions from government without a proper search warrant. It goes on to say what constitutes a propers search warrant and how it is to be obtained.
For Congress to pass a law that ignores this Rights is unconstitutional. The idea that Congress can somehow tell some other person or corporation that they will be immune from prosecution for assisting government in accomplishing this violation of the Constitution illustrates the level of criminality of our politicians.
Are we to believe that the end justifies the means? It's ok to violate the Constitution if it accomplishes a noble purpose, like protecting the American people from terrorism? I say no. The terrorism is a result of meddling in the affairs of other nations. Our politicians brought us this terrorism. They have created enemies for us. Now, they claim to be protecting us from this terrorism by violating our Constitutional Rights.
This is sort of like one of the Nazis at the Nuremberg trial standing up and informing the judge that Hitler had given him immunity from prosecution for his crimes. Make no mistake about it, violating the Rights of the American people is a crime. It is defined as a felony in the United States Code. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Members of Congress have taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution. When Constitutional government is restored, they can explain to the judge about how they gave themselves and others immunity from the law.
Um..hmm..umm... YES
It is not about political parties, nor of left or right.. it is about Liberty or the Tyranny of men. Thank you Dodd.
Sure
Sure
Yes!
We need to support Senator Dodd on this.....When someone in DC does the right thing, we need to support thiem. Let's face it, it doesn't happen often so it shouldn't be too much work for us.
Don't worry about party affiliations, just speak up in support of ANYONE that stands up and does the right thing.
I signed the petition and will call my Senators' offices first thing tomorrow.
Keep up the fight!

YES Support blocking unconstitutional bills
Dodd deserves our support for being willing to stand up to this president, the Democrats, and the Neocons. Dodd along with Kucinich, pushing forward for impeachment and Dr. Paul are fighting for the constitution and that is not a GOP or DEM issue it is an American issue. That they are being ignored and marginalized like Dr. Paul shows you how much we the people need to band together no matter what political stripe and fight for our country. United we stand divided we fall.
"In short, you see, the essential is to cease being free and to obey, in repentance, a greater rogue than oneself. When we are all guilty, that will be democracy. Without countering, cher ami, that we must take revenge for having to die alone. Death is so
They'll resume it in
They'll resume it in January. In any case, I'm going to send Dodd a thank you letter, along with my senators.
Signed the petition and
Signed the petition and wrote both of my state's senators. We need more people to do this, this is what the revolution is all about. It is so much more than just getting Ron Paul elected, it is banding together and standing up to our government and saying we are not going to take this any more. Please join me and take 5 or 10 minutes and write your senators. Your country needs you.
Exactly. We are very aware
Exactly. We are very aware what they're doing now, we have a chance to show them we're not apathetic about what they're doing anymore. When is the Patriot Act up for expiration? We need to keep an eye on that and get writing for them to let that thing expire or repeal it.
Yes, It's absolutely amazing that this bill has made it to
the Senate!!! Where are the democrats that were so much against this? This is so insane it's laughable if it wasn't reality! It's the same with the Law of Sea Treaty we may see soon as well! We need every ally we can get! The supporters of these bills are the real kook's and nut jobs! Sen. Orrin Hatch of UTAH ...TRAITOR!

Reid already backed down
after he saw Dodd was serious
Yes, absolutely!
This bill is terrible! We need a strong bipartisan group working to get rid of these bills and acts that are extremely unconstitutional. This isn't so much about parties, it's about the basic freedoms of American citizens that's being shredded right in front of us and Congress needs to step up and do their job!

Chris Dodd is the best
Chris Dodd is the best candidate on the Democratic side. Before I switched back to the Republican Party to support RP, I planned on voting for Dodd. His presidential platform is also about restoring the rule of law. He's tried to close Guantanamo, succeeded in outlawing torture (with McCain and the Band of Brothers), and his father was a Nuremberg prosecutor.
Anybody that is leading the fight for freedom and liberty is a friend, no matter what group they belong to.
Definitely!!
I'll support any man fighting against the FISA. All we have to tie us together is common sense, this makes sense! Lets support him ON THIS. He's up there telling the truth. Logic can make us great allies against this bill. So what if we hate each other next week because of the universal healthcare debate. At least then at&t won't turn the emails we send calling him a fascist over to the government. j/k

I say support anyone who
I say support anyone who supports the constitution and liberty alone as long as they are doing so. once they stop supporting all that, drop them like a bad habit.

Just goes to show...
that 98% of the politicians take the side of the BIG Corporations instead of the intrest of the PEOPLE WHO FRIGGIN ELECTED THEM!!! Support Dodd. I hope he draws attention with the Fillibuster. This is getting out of hand. Weren't the Dems running in 2006 against the RUBBER STAMP Republicans. Um, seems like that stamp knows no party lines. They should be called THE RUBBER STAMP Democrats.

If voting could really change things,
it would be illegal. Here is hoping for change!
Start with the Petition to Reid.
Sam Seder seems to have a little clout, lets all sign his petition to Reid.

Why is it that so few will stand up against the Bush machine?

call a lot
www.senate.gov to get the numbers for Harry Ried and your senators. Call them again and again, I also think faxes are great retro act that puts a physical doc in thier face vs e-mail and calls. Call e-mail and fax.
We need to scream non stop. I am glad Dodd is tacking action. These NeoLib Dems have sure turned out to be a slap in the face to the people who put them back in control of congress.
Liberty = Responsibility
Liberty = Responsibility
I would find out where Dr.
I would find out where Dr. Paul stands, although it seems obvious to me.
Yup
I too saw this on CSPAN2 . He did sound very close to Ron Paul . It does seem he's out there all alone. I'm going to e-mail him a nod of support because he's on the right side on this one.
Hell yes
Figure out what you want to do and we'll help .We must stick together to restore liberty .
We should support anyone and
We should support anyone and everyone that will stand up for our freedoms as much as we can.

i liked his outspokeness .. i haven't reviewed him as a candidate tho so i have no idea how he really is
THIS is the right idea
I belive we have started a movment that should be banning together to do things exactly like this.i have followed dodd for a little while he seems reasonable on immigration as well as the civil liberty questions . what should we do to support him on this?
