Big Pharma Illegally Releases Genetically-Modified Mosquitoes in Cayman Islands

http://www.naturalnews.com/030449_mosquitos_Cayman_Islands.html

(NaturalNews) Scientists at British biotechnology giant Oxitec recently developed a genetically-modified (GM) mosquito that, apart from a specific chemical antibiotic, is unable to successfully repopulate. And the company recently released millions of these GM mosquitoes in the Cayman Islands to see what would happen -- and they did so without proper approval or announcement -- prompting outrage by experts and the public over the unknown consequences of conducting such an irresponsible experiment.

Oxitec released the mosquitoes last year, but only just recently let the public know about it. The company has attempted to justify its decision by claiming its GM mosquitoes may help fight the spread of dengue fever by reducing or eliminating the wild mosquito population. But nobody knows what happens when these GM mosquitoes interact with other animals and humans, or how their altered genes will disrupt the living environment.

Seemingly content with its decision to hide the trial from the public initially, Oxitec had the audacity to announce at the recent annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene that its trial was "successful". But how the company can make such a preposterous statement without knowing the long-term effects of its irreversible decision is mind-boggling.

Apparently the government approved this

experiment on the island and its inhabitants. Somebody on the take, no doubt; or just usual government arrogant fools. Actually both.

Expensive beach front property ... Bruce Willis, Leno etc.

The Cayman Islands have more registered businesses than they have people. The latest population estimate of the Cayman Islands is about 52,000 as of 2006.
With an average income of around KYD$42,000, Caymanians have the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. According to the CIA World Factbook, the Cayman Islands GDP per capita is the 12th highest in the world. The islands print their own currency, the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD), which is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a fixed rate of 1 KYD = 1.25 USD.

The government's primary source of income is indirect taxation: there is no income tax, capital gains tax or corporation tax.

The Cayman Islands have a tropical marine climate, with a wet season of warm, rainy summers (May to October) and a dry season of relatively cool winters (November to April). Terrain is mostly a low-lying limestone base surrounded by coral reefs.

The Cayman Islands are a British dependency and island nation. It is a three-island archipelago in the Caribbean Sea, consisting of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. The Cayman Islands are 130 nautical miles (241 km; 150 mi) south of Cuba and 145 nautical miles (269 km; 167 mi) northwest of Jamaica, and are between Cuba and Central America. Its geographic coordinates are 19°30 north, 80°30 west.

This sounds like a huge conspiracy: Kill those rich people...

and take the money. The Islands would be quarantined if this Dengue Fever "experiment" runs amok. Of course, they already have the antidote/vaccine for whatever it is they are doing down there.

You just provided the answer for the question: Why the Caymans? Money, and lots of it!

Thanks.

My apologies, but it's Turks and Caicos Islands

that several Hollywood stars have built homes in the Turks and Caicos, including Dick Clark and Bruce Willis. Ben Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner on Parrot Cay in 2005.
{The Turks and Caicos Islands lie southeast of Mayaguana in the Bahamas and north of the island of Hispaniola}

But for sure, there is big money in the Cayman Islands. Take a look at these homes ...

The Caymans does have a money laundering regime, in fact, several Caribbean countries specializing in offshore financing, including the Turks & Caicos, have come under pressure to introduce tougher sanctions against money laundering.

If an investor wishes to apply for permanent residency in the Cayman Islands, the requirements include an investment of approximately US$200,000 in real estate and a one off fee of CI$15,000. A clean police record, good bank and personal references and evidence of sufficient financial means are also required. Permanent residency allows unrestricted time in the Islands but does not entitle the holder to work in the Islands.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

These people are totally out-of-control.

Their muzzle have been removed a long time ago, and they are again just flexing their muscles of using us and the environment as Guinea Pigs/experimentation.

I take it that.......

This island is (was) also populated with people? It's been known for years to use mosquitos for depopulation and biological warfare reasons.

Maybe the legallity of this experiment is not officially on the books, but this done the way it was is "ethically" highly illegal for a number of reasons no matter what the intentions may be.

Mainly on the point of doing something that can have extreme consequences on people or animals without fully knowing what the outcome may be.

It's like going out and building a quantum reactor. Maybe it'll blow up the world; but we gotta know what will happen.....

Yep, we might all be dead, but well know.?

Thanks for a bump

I can't believe that this issue is so easily kept away from the public eye.
There is nothing about this in the main stream media.
