A story of civil insurrection and warfare in the USA with the singer commenting on various activities involving an apparent underground movement. ("Transmit the message, to the receiver / hope for an answer some day / I got three passports, a couple of visas / you don't even know my real name.") The singer laments that due to having to live underground, he can't even go to night clubs. This aint no party, this aint no disco...
Enjoy

Oh David Byrne, stop making
Oh David Byrne, stop making sense!
I work for the Red Hot Organization and David is a good friend of my boss. He's contributed tracks to 6 of our albums including the latest one we put out called Dark Was The Night where he collaborated with the Dirty Projectors on a song that he wrote for the Talking Heads but they never got around to recording. It's called "Knotty Pine" and it's a trip, you should check it out!

Talking Heads - Puzzling Evidence
Since we're on a Talking Heads kick - here's one for you if you haven't seen it, it is a must see from "True Stories."

My respect
for David Byrne deepens. I saw true stories when I was a teenager and thought it was trippy but didn't really get it at the time and haven't see it since. Gonna have to rent it now. Finding a whole new level of depth to his music.

One of my all time favorites
It doesn't get much better than Talking Heads.
Try this one
I can't believe it isn't more well known, just about the last thing they ever did.

Oh yeah
I've been a fan of the Heads and this song since it came out when I was in high school.
I love the way David Byrne ends the song: "Thank you. Does anybody have any questions?"
Check the lyrics that close the song. Reminds me of a Bob Dylan song that goes, "Its not dark yet, but its getting there."
Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
we blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines
I know that that ain't allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
don't know what I look like!
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
we make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving
you ought to get you some sleep
Get you instructions, follow directions
then you should change your address
Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day
whatever you think is best
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace
the burning keeps me alive
Try to stay healthy, physical fitness
don't want to catch no disease
Try to be careful, don't take no chances
you better watch what you say

Talking Heads
TH were one of the greatest American bands, sadly it looks as though they will never reform. Stop Making Sense is still my all time favorite concert film. David Byrne is still making music but nothing that compares with his TH days.
I think its good they wont reform
David Byrne, as nutty as he is, understandably doesnt want to tarnish the greatness of the Talking Heads.. As much as i would love to see them preform again, he knows it would never match up with their prior greatness.. The energy was such a key factor in their music, which would be hard to recreate..
That, and Tina's not as hot as she used to be.. hahaha..
But, "Everyones trying, to get to the bar.. The name of the bar, the bar is called heaven.. The band in heaven, they play my favorite song, play it one more time, play it all night long.."

Yes, pretty much agreed
Stop Making Sense is great.
A really great David Byrne song is "Miss America" from Feelings in 1997:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paHnOxkG3UY
These lyrics are awesome as well:
I love America
Her secret's safe with me
I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see
Oh Supergirl
You'll be my Supermodel
Although you have a reputation
Can I afford?
Are you above my station?
I'm not the only heart you've conquered.
I love America
But boy can she be cruel
I know how tall she is
Without her platform shoes
Oh Supergirl
You'll be my Supermodel
Although at time it might seem awkward
Don't run away
Oh don't you recognize me?
I'm not the only heart you've conquered.
I kissed America
When she was fleecing me
And she know I understand
That she needs to be free
I miss America
And sometimes she does too
And sometimes I think of her
When she is fucking you...

Byrne's Feelings is fantastic
Byrne's Feelings is fantastic CD. My favorite song of it is "The Civil Wars" or "Burnt by the Sun". Also Uh-Oh is great CD. I love the CD cover of Uh-Oh with a Dog-God.
"Air is the very substance of our freedom, the substance of superhuman joy....aerial joy is freedom."--Gaston Bachelard--
That was great!
That was great, Thanx Michael. I still love to listen to Byrne's collabaration with Brian Eno, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Decades ahead of its time!
