Americans, I have some bad news for you

Well, this about sums it up......I agree of most of what is written in this article about the quality of life and the coming police state. I think it is time to follow through on my thoughts of leaving the US.

Update 11/29: I don't want to mislead anyone here....I didn't post this article peddling communist health care for everyone. This is about the freedoms we are losing and the coming police state. If you can't see that the gov't is going to attempt to monitor every aspect of our lives, then you better wake up.

However, I do agree with the author that people in other countries probably have a better quality of life.

And as for some of you with your moronic comments...I am not a freeloader..I work for myself and I work very hard. I am 44 years old and I have never once collected unemployment even though I have been unemployed (one time was last year for 3 months). I manage my finances very well, have no debt, and own all of my possessions outright. So before someone calls me a freeloader or a socialist, I would appreciate that you know your facts.

Excluding holidays, I have taken off 6 days this year and not one sick day. In fact, I have not taken one sick day in 6 years. I do not have typical health insurance just catastrophic coverage, so I pay for everything myself, and I prefer it that way...my own blood work, checkups, etc. You would be surprised how willing doctors are to negotiate a fair price once they hear you are paying yourself. Saves them time and money too...no paperwork on their end.

So before some of you go shooting your mouths off and ripping other people apart, maybe you should think twice. I have been here for about 3 years and I have never initiated being critical to anyone.

And one last thing, I am thinking of leaving the US because it is crumbling from within. If anyone of you have a clue as to what is going to happen to this country financially, and the coming police state, you would think about leaving too.

Americans, I have some bad news for you:

You have the worst quality of life in the developed world—by a wide margin.

If you had any idea of how people really lived in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many parts of Asia, you’d be rioting in the streets calling for a better life. In fact, the average Australian or Singaporean taxi driver has a much better standard of living than the typical American white-collar worker.

I know this because I am an American, and I escaped from the prison you call home.

I have lived all around the world, in wealthy countries and poor ones, and there is only one country I would never consider living in again: The United States of America. The mere thought of it fills me with dread.

Consider this: you are the only people in the developed world without a single-payer health system. Everyone in Western Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand has a single-payer system. If they get sick, they can devote all their energies to getting well. If you get sick, you have to battle two things at once: your illness and the fear of financial ruin. Millions of Americans go bankrupt every year due to medical bills, and tens of thousands die each year because they have no insurance or insufficient insurance....

that article is a bunch of bs

i guess it all comes down to how you define 'quality of life'.

canadians are enslaved to the international bankers because we love our free heath care. who do you think pays for that?? we canadians most certainly do not pay the full cost of the HUGE expense of our health care system. where do you think that money comes from?? surely you can reason this out?? we're debt slaves to the international bankers. canada doesn't have a central bank independent of the international bankers. the bankers fund our health care system to keep us quiet and happy and we pay high income taxes in return. it is a good deal for the international bankers.

as for europeans ... they're rioting in many EU countries. have you figured out why yet?? they ain't rioting because they want the government out of their lives. oh no. they're rioting because they want more government benefits. can the EU afford what they get handed to them?? umm... no. have you connected the dots yet?? why do you think some EU countries are financially hooped?

perhaps contemplating what is said in this short video in the context of health care will clue you in on what is about to unfold.

Putin ditches dollar, backs Euro on trip to Germany

pay close attention to what is said about germany...

think REALLY carefully before deciding to leave the usa at this particular point in time.

as an aside ... but it is sort of connected in the big picture:

the uk and europe are going to have a BRUTAL winter this year and the cold is going to linger LONG into the summer.

next year, the G20 countries will see famine in their countries. remember the pictures of the starving jews in the nazi death camps?

the best places to position yourself financially and environmentally are out west in the usa and canada. australia. below the pyrenees mountains if you're in europe. the hour is already late if you are in other places.

Britain is no so great either.

From my experience.

where would you go?

It is perfectly understandable to think about leaving, but where could one go? The police state is even more advanced in UK then it is here, and it will catch up to you wherever elso you go before too long. The economic destruction still to come will not be limited to the US either. I think we still probably have the highest debt, but as percentage of GDP isn't it much worse in other countries? I'm not calling you a socialist, but the perception of higher standards of living in other countries was probably mostly a temporary effect of their more socialist policies, which will come back to bite them in the end. At least americans still have arms, and therefore some means to resist when things escalate.

My short list is.......

New Zealand, Ecuador, Italy, Cost Rica, and a few south American countries.

There is no perfect place. You have to think where the police state is not going to be as extreme as it will be here. I think the US is going to be a terrible place in a short time....less than 10 years.

If anyone here thinks there is going to be a revolution2, think again...national opt out day was a dud. I can't tell you how many people I have talked to the past week that all agree with the new screening procedures at the airports....the most common quote I got was "...whatever it takes to keep us safe..." So most don't see it as police state or an infringement on our freedoms.

from where *I* sit, the 'good life' is no longer here; I don't know if it is anywhere, because I haven't lived in another country for quite a while.

I suspect that the 'good life' is failing everywhere, though.

But, the U.S. could have had the best, and the U.S. has been betrayed.

We work very hard to maintain some level of comfort and keep a roof over our heads and everyone fed; we work very hard to do that.

Taking care of our own health, however difficult it can be, and time-consuming, has at least kept us from being cut into pieces. We, too, are uninsured, and we, too, do not use any government health care.

However, most people who do declare medical bankruptcy (which is hard to declare, by the way) are also insured. Insurance is not, necessarily, the answer.

We may not have the 'freedom' to find out what is wrong with us, but we also have chosen to live each day with our best hearts and take care of ourselves.

It is strange for us to be in a group of people and hear about their latest 'tests' and what has been discovered, and they are having this or that removed--

we eat whole foods, with few exceptions (everyone needs a cooky now and again, even if it's whole grain)--

and we have studied alternative medicine.

*I* can't change anyone else, but I can decide my own fate. I do have a fear, however, that at some point, if anyone finds out that we have been going without screening, etc.--force will be introduced, so I am actually quiet about it, so why am I saying something here?

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Global Warming? Socialist Health Care? Peak OIl?

Ah yes, Dmitry Orlov - One of the socialist nitwits that inhabit the internet. An avid fanboy of Al Gore and Mike Ruppert, he promotes the favorite agendas of the CFR, Trilateral, and Club of Rome criminals.

I'm afraid I cannot subscribe to this point of view, as I am aware of its origin.

"The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that." — Alan Greenspan

When are you going to give up that US citizenship?

Seems like you like it just fine. Please don't come back. I would rather the free loaders like yourself all leave. Good Riddance

The man is making a point, an observation, Relax.

As Dr. Paul has pointed out his entire run in congress if we didn't spend 60% of our budget on the military industrial complex we'd be able to have a better life for America. I don't believe in Western medicine so unless the health system covers Chiropractic, Massage therapy, and various forms of Natural remedy, I don't think we need it. Doctors don't practice Health in this country they practice medicine. Medicine for profit. Western Medicine is a hoax. Anyhow telling people who are debating solid issues to leave and being rude is not Daily Paul like. We are thoughtful and warm. God bless the lot of us.

Hey A**hole

see my update above....

It is assuming people like you who make DP a less desirable place to be. You should really keep your mouth shut until you know facts. I probably earn 3 times as much as you, and many times I have worked multiple jobs during the same time period.

I am the furthest thing from a freeloader. Since graduating college back in 1988, I have been unemployed 3 times, and not once did I ever file for unemployment benefits because I do not believe in sitting on your ass collecting a check for nothing. I go out and hustle and take any part time job I can find.

Only if you promise to take

As many socialist/liberals with you as possible and not return.

I currently don't have insurance and am not one bit scared. Scared would be choosing a lazy precarious lifestyle and demanding there is a safety net to fall gracefully into that is paid for by others because of your ignorance of what causes illness and disease or your weak resolve to change to meet that folly.

You take your communist health care and your hypocritical "Give_Me_Liberty" screen name and you go sit in the corner til you realize what you've done wrong.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Hey Oruval, bye.

Take your offensive self and your new screen name and leave the Daily Paul. I've banned you countless times, and I didn't invite you back.

Now you go sit in the corner and ponder what you've done wrong. You are not welcome here.

To be mean is never excusable, but there is some merit in knowing that one is; the most irreparable of vices is to do evil out of stupidity. - C.B.

i've read through this thread. using the standard of what stephen wrote ... other people on this thread ought to be banned.

i ~get~ that it is your playground and your rules. but you don't treat stephen the same way as other people.

you don't like him, ~get him~, or understand why he says what he says ... so you repeatedly ban him.

that's your call, but i will tell you that you're being biased.

as an aside ... 'cause you would have no reason to know this. when stephen got the news about the lawsuit he rallied for you on facebook. frankly, i don't know why he'd bother to promote your club to his sphere of influence on facebook and twitter when you treat him the way you do.

i see people around here who should not be back if you're using the same standard as you hold stephen to.

i know stephen's agenda and style and i like and appreciate it.

i can see what is going on here, but the question is, can you?

I though oruval was pretty darn reformed ;-)

silly times...

I don't really give a rat's ass about the health insurance.

I don/t have any either....I am self employed. It is the police state and the losing of our freedoms that concern me. Just look at the ridiculous S510 food bill....

it is no different elsewhere.

if you think that it is different elsewhere that is simply because you aren't getting the news.

We must get back to upholding the Constitution and...

stop shredding it then we can become the great nation we were at one time.

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you, then you win!"

"The belief is worthless if the fear of social and physical punishment overrides the belief."

The funny thing is that it seems to me that many of these countries could afford this health systems because of US Foreign Policy, we subsidized their military spending freeing up their capital to implement extravagent healthcare systems.

In America we had some choices to make. We couldn't afford the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (along with our military presence in the rest of the world), the Wall Street Bailouts, and Healthcare. So we scrapped Healthcare. Priorities people.

I'm not a fan of socialized medicine either, but I would prefer it to socialized war.

NO ONE is using *capital* for healthcare.

EVERYONE is using the international bankers money.

Countries with NO central bank.

you do know that the usa isn't using capital for your military adventures either, right?

if you aren't aware of this ... research fractional reserve banking.

That I want is "free" Restricted Health care.If you need life saving surgery in canada it can be months before you can RECEIVE IT...MAY BE WEEKS TOO LATE!
I'll pay my own way, thank you.

Running away from problems does not solve the problems.

Someone has to stay and fight for justice.

To quote the Wizard of Oz

(I paraphrase the Wizard speaking to the Cowardly Lion) As for running away from danger, some people mistake wisdom for cowardice.

I don't plan to leave, nor want to leave, but there comes a point where leaving is the only smart thing to do. The Germans who left Nazi Germany. The Vietnamese who left Communist Vietnam...

Just sayin'....

Oddly enough

I think the guy found the right answer using the wrong equation.

Life outside the US is better. Many of his observations are correct, but his interpretation of what makes it better (i.e. single payer health care) is a bit off.

Is this sarcasm? Tough to tell.

Why are you trying to sell your communist death care system here on DP?

Great life?

The soul that wrote that story is really saying that socialism is better. He mentions, "single payer" (government being the one that holds the funds) health care is the supreme good that one can get. Considering that 75% of Finish medical costs are funded by taxation I'll stick what I have now. Socialistic medical care is not what I want. I don't want to pay the medical bills of anyone except myself.

Finland, in the example, has 30 paid vacation days (after your first year of work) and, if I remember correctly, 10 paid holidays). So you get some other worker to pay for your vacation and he pays for yours. That's great progress.

I'm not moving to Australia- no guns. New Zealand? Good luck getting to live there. Thailand? You've gotta be kidding me! To die of Malaria and eat fish and squid all day long isn't too inviting.

Oh sure we have the greatest surveillance state in the history of Man but the alternative of moving to some dis-armed, socialist, surveillance state isn't what I'd describe as improving my standard of living.

Well don't use Canada's

Well don't use Canada's health care system as a model. We use to have first rate medical care ...now we don't. First of all it is a provincially run health care system not a federal one. Second. In Ontario, it has deteriorated significantly. Multitudes are without doctors but pay private health insurance and are disappointed in the lack of choice of doctors as prescribed by gov't. There are many of us who now believe we are healthier without a doctor. Obamacare is an atrocious option for mainstream America. To force the will of the majority into paying for something that is financially ruinous as well as medically inept is not charitable to the illegals with no medical insurance but is covetous of thy neighbours' health and welfare.

Thank you for posting this

I suspected as much, from my travels, although...with apologies to England, where I lived for half a year...I prefer the USA to England.

no single payer oh darn.

no single payer oh darn. someone should fill this guy in on the current unravelling of the euro zones precious currency over skyrocketing deficits and bank risk exposure. im not replying to staunchly defend the US here but lets get real. TS is currently HTF!

bump for discussion.

Interesting perspective seemed like some sort of selling going on. It read like a Communist brochure to global living. There is some stuff missing about all these ideal locations and that is the stuff we have to research ourselves because they won't volunteer it.

The part that is obviously coming true

is the police state....xray scanners will be every where soon. Americans just seem to keep rolling over and taking it. Starting in 2011 retailers will be required by the DHS to do background checks on people buying cars, homes, appliances, etc...

I started an application to New Zealand a few years ago...never finished it though. Think I will complete it.
