US embassy cables leak sparks global diplomacy crisis

The United States was catapulted into a worldwide diplomatic crisis today, with the leaking to the Guardian and other international media of more than 250,000 classified cables from its embassies, many sent as recently as February this year.

At the start of a series of daily extracts from the US embassy cables - many of which are designated "secret" – the Guardian can disclose that Arab leaders are privately urging an air strike on Iran and that US officials have been instructed to spy on the UN's leadership.

These two revelations alone would be likely to reverberate around the world. But the secret dispatches which were obtained by WikiLeaks, the whistlebowers' website, also reveal Washington's evaluation of many other highly sensitive international issues.

These include a major shift in relations between China and North Korea, Pakistan's growing instability and details of clandestine US efforts to combat al-Qaida in Yemen.

Among scores of other disclosures that are likely to cause uproar, the cables detail:

• Grave fears in Washington and London over the security of Pakistan's nuclear weapons programme

• Alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime.

• Devastating criticism of the UK's military operations in Afghanistan.

• Claims of inappropriate behaviour by a member of the British royal family.

Remember, this is government talking

"• Grave fears in Washington and London over the security of Pakistan's nuclear weapons programme"

Are these factual reports, or are they talking points for diplomats?

The US has been working to destabilize and control the region ever since the British abandoned their claimed colonies.

"• Alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime."

More often than not government is organized crime. They pick our pockets in dozens of ways then they redistribute it to their friends and pet projects.

Free includes debt-free!

Are we able to compare the leaks reported

in the papers with the cables from WL? I'm seeing reports that aren't posted on WL. I'm also worried that the server switches might be a US hack, maybe like a false mirror with different content.

Here is a doozy

"The Foreign Office misled parliament over the plight of thousands of islanders who were expelled from their Indian Ocean homeland to make way for a large US military base, according to secret US diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks."

Here is the guardian link that has a lot of the Wikileak updates.

I'm glad it's getting out there

but it will most likely lead to sanctions against the US. Be prepared.

Ok, this is what I am wondering

these leaks can all be true or some true and some planted.
Just a thought.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

I think these leaks were

I think these leaks were inevitable.

well, if true,

I have always wondered this, even about the meticulous Nazi loons: Hillary, why oh why if you knew what you were doing was questionable, did you put your name and a long line of trail leading back to you, dummy?

I suppose nothing should come as a shock, but this is truly creepy-shocking. almost sounds like a beta test program for what they have in store: a panopticon of scifi tyranny.

They should just call each State Dpt embassies for what it really is, a CIA branch office.

I'd say bring on the Nuremberg 2.0!

With all of the attacks on WikiLeaks and their track record....

and their previous credibility, what do you think?

They have been accused of a lot of things, but not forging documents. The powers that be would love to say that, but I do not believe that anyone has, with all of the thousands of documents released to date.

I suppose,

none can be certain, as if one macro-collects a vast array of data, it will be really difficult to discern what is strictly real, or what is inserted to specifically confuse the efficacy of another data, etc.

I do believe from all the articles and interviews of Assange that I can gather as a third party, that WikiLeaks & Julian are the real deal. at least their intention seems to be well meaning.

kinda like GWB's National Guard OBVIOUS non-service service record; they forged a copy of a REAL data that proves that GWB was AWOL, then released the forgery, instead of the original. to the outside, a forgery of a real data, would naturally mislead one to conclude that the original data itself is not true either.

from past observations, such could also be the case here: possibly a mixture, a mishmash of real and diversionary data.

good thing is, WiKiLeaks have taken on what alternative media was supposed to be doing: truly investigate the powers-that-be that the MSM were covering for.

but, factually speaking, I believe it's good that at least one 'version' of the event is coming out; it leverages the corrupt StatActors on the defensive.

of course, none of this would be an issue, if govt investigations were actually to occur and scums went to jail for it, or better yet, if the entire statist apparatus were actually Constitutional and never conducted illegal interventionist policies, wars/occupation, etc. in the first place.

plus, whether the recent Swedish rape charge and arrest warrant for Julian Assange is a real deal, or a COINTELPRO op to make him seem more legit to the antiwar & anti-gvt corruption skeptics precisely because they're going after him, or genuinely is a case of a character assassination attempt by the Fed.Gvt leveraging their Swedish NATO allies precisely because WikiLeaks poses a REAL threat to the NWO dominion, remains to be seen.

more of another case of a waiting game to see how all of this pans out in the next few weeks to yrs. of course, it can all change with one event: a Ron Paul Presidency in 2012! .D

But what we're reading isn't from Wikileaks

the site is currently unavailable to read. So our sources are those news outlets that claim to be publishing the content.

Lindsey Graham

Obama's favorite Republican was just on BBC saying Wikileaks will have "blood on its hands". What a complete joke this man is!

CBC Radio

Has reported US officials pressured Slovenian officials into taking Guantanamo detainees-and offering a visit from Obama as kind of a trade!!

Intersting tidbit

"7. (S) If Israel's neighborhood were not unstable enough, Dagan observed, it did not help that Russia is playing a "very negative role" in the region. He observed that all of these challenges have to be addressed globally -- they could not be dealt with individually. Returning to Jordan as an example, he noted that the more than one million Iraqi refugees in Jordan were changing Jordanian society, and forcing it into a new relationship with Saudi Arabia. This is evidenced by Saudi King Abdullah's recent visit to Jordan, which implies greater understanding between the Jordanians and the Saudis."

Another example of how the invasion of Iraq was a complete disaster for America's interests. The US only keeps control of the region by keeping them at each others throats.

"Let me assure you: our

"Let me assure you: our diplomats are just that, diplomats. They do not engage in intelligence activities. They represent our country around the world, maintain open and transparent contact with other governments as well as public and private figures, and report home. That's what diplomats have done for hundreds of years."

How dumb this guy think we are ? Is common knowledge that the embassies are spying centers, Jesus Christ, like we don't hear every week about diplomats being expelled for being caught spying.

OP, thanks

for sharing. I would really like to read these "leaked" cables for myself--draw my own conclusions. Someone on ATS last evening was trying to explain how to access the actual documents...but his explanation went beyond my computer abilities...
I am especially interested in anything concerning 9/11, Israel, Iran. I haven't made up my mind yet whether WikiLeaks is totally legit, partially legit, a CIA scam or ???

Bump for others' perusal...

good luck with that...there

good luck with that...there are over 3 million documents...you will never be able to read them all

My ability

or inability to read them all would depend on the length of the documents. I am a very fast reader--generally I read a paperback novel in a few hours; a large hardcover book in a few days..

Wikileaks is the global elite neutralizer.

Real eyes realize real lies

We want our country back

Every year is a year for Ron Paul!

From Der Spiegel

"On the whole, the cables from the Middle East expose the superpower's weaknesses. Washington has always viewed it as vital to its survival to secure its share of energy reserves, but the world power is often quickly reduced to becoming a plaything of diverse interests. And it is drawn into the animosities between Arabs and Israelis, Shiites and Sunnis, between Islamists and secularists, between despots and kings. Often enough, the lesson of the documents that have now been obtained, is that the Arab leaders use their friends in Washington to expand their own positions of power."

Oh my...

I think this is going to take more than 12 stitches.

Nothing earth shattering yet

It appears that the Saudis have been putting big pressure on the US to attack Iran. These leaks will certainly undermine the US ability to control the middle east.

ha! bump for the Truth
