Ron Paul: Wikileaks Reveals America’s Delusional Foreign Policy

Wikileaks Reveals America’s Delusional Foreign Policy
by Ron Paul

We may never know the whole story behind the recent publication of sensitive U.S. government documents by the Wikileaks organization, but we certainly can draw some important conclusions from the reaction of so many in government and media. At its core, the Wikileaks controversy serves as a diversion from the real issue of what our foreign policy should be. But the mainstream media, along with neoconservatives from both parties, insists on asking the wrong questions. When presented with embarrassing disclosures about U.S. spying and meddling, the policy that requires so much spying and meddling is not questioned. Instead the media focuses on how authorities might prosecute the publishers of such information.

Unfortunately no one questions the status quo or suggests a wholesale rethinking of our foreign policy. No one suggests that the White House or the State Department should be embarrassed that the U.S. engages in spying and meddling. The only embarrassment is that it was made public! This allows ordinary people to actually know and talk about what the government does.

State secrecy is anathema to a free society. Why exactly should Americans be prevented from knowing what their government is doing in their name? In a free society we are supposed to know the truth. In a society where truth becomes treason, however, we are in big trouble. The truth is that our foreign spying, meddling and outright military intervention in the post-World War 2 era has made us less secure, not more, and we have lost countless lives and spent trillions of dollars for our trouble. Too often it’s the official government lies that have given us endless and illegal wars resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and casualties.

Take the recent hostilities in Korea as only one example. More than 50 years after the end of the Korean war American taxpayers continue to spend billions of U.S. military dollars to defend a modern and wealthy South Korea. The continued presence of the U.S. military places American lives between these two factions. The U.S. presence only serves to prolong the conflict, further draining our empty treasury and placing our military at risk.

The neoconservative ethos, steeped in the teachings of Leo Strauss, cannot abide an America where individuals simply pursue their happy, peaceful, prosperous lives. It cannot abide an America where society centers around family, religion or civic and social institutions rather than an all-powerful central state. There is always an enemy to slay, whether communist or terrorist. In the neoconservative vision, a constant state of alarm must be fostered among the people to keep them focused on something greater than themselves, namely their great protector – the state.

This is why the neoconservative reaction to Wikileaks revelations is so predictable. They say, “See, we told you, the world is a dangerous place”, so goes their claim. “We must prosecute or even assassinate those responsible for publishing the leaks. Then we must redouble our efforts to police the world by spying and meddling better with no more leaks”, so they say.

We should view the Wikileaks controversy in the larger context of American foreign policy. Rather than worry about the disclosure of embarrassing secrets we should focus on our delusional foreign policy. We are kidding ourselves when we believe spying, intrigue and outright military intervention can maintain our international status as a superpower while our domestic economy crumbles in an orgy of debt and monetary debasement.

Foreign Policy of Freedo

Ron Paul's Non-interventionism is *NOT* isolationism. This article is about why friendship and detente is the best policy (morally and pragmatically) in foreign affairs, esp. with Iran.

Let's honor our troops by ending America's military-industrial complex, and bring the brave men and women home. Happy Veterans' Day!

I heard through the grapevine that PayPal...

has released Wikileaks funds. It does seem to make a difference to take a stand against the corrupt systems. I said alot of negative colorful words when I closed my account with them. I am sure I was not the only one. :) Got to draw a line in the sand at times.

Truth is Treason in an Empire of Lies

The sheeple have once again sided with the State Run Media. And that is to say that exposing the truth is treason.

I am leaning toward the idea, that this is a CIA run operation, with the goal of censoring the internet.

Not everyone is in on it. So some factions of government are doing what they think is best, but this is a terrible attack at our first amendment rights, because once they've got everyone convinced, that it is no good to tell the truth about the government, then we are all doomed.

I think Ron Paul said it best, "Truth is Treason in an Empire of Lies".

They are using the WikiLeaks "episode", to tell us that we can't just go around telling the truth, and that Assange is a traitor, even though he is not a U.S. citizen. Then we also have people calling for Julian's execution or assassination.

All of these things, do not bode well for freedom.

So, even if it is a CIA plot, we should look through the smoke and mirrors, and defend what is right, truth, and freedom of speech.

I know some of you will parrot the powers the be, and say that WikiLeaks are putting people at risk, but I would counter, and say that the policies of the U.S. government are putting people at risk.

The U.S. foreign policy is all about oil, natural resources, and strategic military bases.

It has nothing to do with defending us from terrorists, in fact, it creates more terrorists exponentially.

We are less safe today than we were are 911, my opinion.

And in the meantime, we have lost our liberties, and because of the banking scandal, we have lost our wealth.

So, when the government says, "They hate us because we're rich and free", they fixed the problem by making sure we will never be RICH or FREE.

So, whether or not WikiLeaks, is a CIA operation, we must fight, the inevitable path, that this turn of events will lead to, and that is the censoring of the internet.

Go Ron!

"The American State claims the right to know every single thing about us:
every dime we earn and spend, every phone call we make or email we send.
To track our movements.
To know what we are teaching our children.
To ascertain our shower head and toilet tank.
Now even to see all of you naked or feel you up.
And a million and one other insanities, indignities, and outrages.
Every single aspect of life is within the State's jurisdiction, or so it claims.
But for us to know anything about the State, aside from its propaganda, is treason.
That is, of course, because the State is a criminal enterprise that depends on our consent.
The more we know about its murders, its looting, its lying
the less willing we are to consent, to be good little robots,
indeed, to worship it as a god, which is always its ultimate ambition,
pharaonic Egypt being its ideal.
Pledge allegiance to this gang? No thanks."

"I don't want to reform the American state.
I wish to weaken it.
I wish to see its power reduced and even possibly eliminated.
I want an end to empire, and I almost don't care about the cost.
I want Americans to love America for its smallness and peculiarity, not for its largeness or its universality.
I want the country I live in to be a normal country,
in which government - especially the centralized state - doesn't really matter all that much.
I want soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines here at home doing honest, decent work,
and not scattered across 1,000 bases in 120 countries.
I want Americans to stop trying to save the world and instead tending
to their families and supporting their communities.
Love and duty are for neighbor, not ideology or history or state or regime."

It is good to see this important statement

is receiving more YouTube views than the usual Texas Straight Talks vids, and the comments are mostly positive.

I completely agree with Ron.

Yes, our government under the delusions that Agenda 21 provides them license to wage war upon our own citizens and anywhere in the world that these "tainted" trillions are filling the minds of criminals with fire power.
I do not want a war economy forced upon us Wikileaks for what ever reason, puts us one step closer to expose the absurdities of a war economy.
Personally, the light of truth on anything which exposes the religions of oppressor and victim must needs be exposed! In America the police state thuggary that meets us everyday we wake up from our slumber must be put to a halt. Liberty and justice depend on it.

I completely agree with Albert Einstein:

“He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice.”

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

Remember the goal

Getting information out is the goal. We aren't in a contest as to who wins a door prize. It is awful when the same article gets posted many times by different people. But the problem isn't "who gets credit".... the problem is that there is only so much space in the right hand column and having the same thing posted 5 times doesn't leave space for more information to be out there.

We all appreciate what you do here LL, and nobody is trying to take anything away from you if they accidentally post the same article without noticing. We're all in this TOGETHER. Sometimes mistakes happen. But the IMPORTANT thing is to make sure the info is "out there".

Sounds like you might need to go outside and smell the roses a little this morning. Life is grand, and in the end "GOOD"/ God IS going to win.

Bless you my friend.

Thank you

Elviejo you put it all well in words.

I have 3 youtube accounts and know how the system works there very well.
To have success in our work in spreading the message of Liberty we must pay attention to "little things" like making important videos go viral.

That is the reason I was upset this morning seeing that the first video posted on youtube will not go viral because another one will split the ratings viewings and favorites...especially the viewing number is a KEY in making a vid go viral...

When some might see an ego driven freedom fighter I am actually selfless because I could have uploaded that video myself and get traffic to my youtube channel - I do not do it - I only spread help make viral other people's work their videos.

God Bless and an early Merry Christmas to you!

ABSO-Freekin-LUTELY!

Dr. Paul is right on about this.

Anyone (like the idiot populist Huckabee) who says Assange (who isn't even an American) should be tried for treason and hanged, doesn't care for free speech.

Let's remember that Wikileaks also revealed Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest funders of terrorism against the U.S.A.

SHOULDN'T WE KNOW THAT AS CITIZENS???

And it all squares up with the fact that most of the 9/11 hijackers were SAUDI ARABIAN.

The Saudis are NOT our friends - but they ARE the friends of oil-rich families like the Bushes.

Both the Saudis and the Bushes are guilty of the deaths of those killed on 9/11.
