Fear is the Font of Courage

In response to Is Anyone Getting *SCARED* Yet? I ask, What is there to fear? That they'll take all of your wealth and possessions? Put you in a cage? Torture you? Throw you to the dogs? Kill you?

Welcome to the human condition. It's been going on since the dawn of humanity. We all draw from a common lineage of ancestors who faced it, and unless we change things, our progeny will share the same fate.

There no question there is fear. The question is what to do about it.

The way through the fear is to face it. But first you must name it. Turn off the TV and think about it, with your own mind and your own voice, not through the mediated voices of Corporate News that have colonized all of our minds. Write it down, if you dare (or are you too afraid?).

It is okay to be afraid. But understand that is what 'they' (the oppressors) want. Manipulation though fear is a technique that is well known to those in power, through the ages. Fear makes the masses much easier to manage. People who are afraid will do anything they're told.

The threat of death is the ultimate pressure point, and the ultimate weakness for most humans. Threaten someone with death and you can get him to do nearly anything. (Do you want to end up in the wreckage of a plane that was hijacked, or in the rubble of a 100 story steel building that has mysteriously collapsed? Today's threat level is Yellow. Elevated. Are you scared? Then do what you're told!)

Fear of death is irrational because Death waits patiently for each of us. There is no way to avoid this fate. Yet we struggle and strain each day to deny it, making it the ultimate fear from which all others spring.

None of us gets out of here alive. The question is will we leave here with our dignity in tact, or go out blaming our fear on others, never truly knowing or understanding ourselves and the gift of humanity that we have been given?

Should we give in to the age old cycle of violence by turning others into scapegoats, then killing them in an attempt to temporarily assuage our fears? There is nothing much original in perpetuating that cycle, but the Powers That Be would like nothing better.

It is good to be afraid, because fear is the font of courage. Be thankful for your fear, for without fear there can be no courage. Fear is your opportunity to express courage.

Courage is acting in the face of fear, staring it down, accepting it, moving beyond it, and doing what you know is right.

Was Jesus Christ was without fear? Henry David Thoreau? Gandhi? Martin Luther King? Is there no fear in standing 434-1 against your peers?

Rather than wallow in fear, identify it, face it, purify it, and transmute it. Spread the courage, not the fear. Courage, not fear, is the way of all human growth and progress. It is the heroic journey of mankind.

Fear is love twisted

Love is the only true emotion. When we are in harmony with the Universe, we experience a feeling of love. When we are out of harmony, we experience fear, anger, hate, etc.
A decision CAN be made to operate from love, not fear. Once made, the world will not love you back, but it does put YOU into a more harmonious place.
The entire point of "The Jubilee 2012 Report" was to tell the news with a "love" spin rather than a "fear" spin. People CHOOSE fear, anger, hate, etc far too often.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

That Chinese student in front of all those tanks in Tienanmen Square. That took some doing. Internal fear control is the key to making courage.

Thank you for posting this Mr Nystrom,In my beliefs there is no fear,There is no hell so there is no fear.The only thing to be concerned with is the possibility of disappointing the spirits of the ancestors.If one faces death bravely and with no fear, they will always smile and be proud.

You add so much value to this site.

You need to do it more often.

The days that this site becomes more a joy to you than a burden ...

We see it.

And the world sees it.

And that emotion actually has a quantitative value here at DP.

And it currently feels like the DP is going through a phase of "quatitative easing".

My two year old has this method of easing his stress when things get stressful at the household.

He simply asks in his two year voice a question that not only allows him to cope but creates perspective in stressful times and helps us all to cope. He comes up to me and in is best Cindy Lou Who impression he asks, "Dad ... Are you happy?"

Because he always knows the answer will be a big hug followed by "Yes, I am happy now."
