True Poll

Just finshed up my own little independant poll here in Chicago, IL. Only had time to talk with 30 people from Union Station to Sears Tower. Well here are the numbers:
Ron Paul 13
Hillary Clinton 6
Barack Obama 5
Rudy Giuliani 3
Mitt Romney 2
Dennis Kucinich 1
The only question I asked was who are you going to vote for in the 2008 presidential race.

13 out of 30 IS great. If you do that everyday for ten days, you'll have measured 300 people. I wonder what the results of that would be.

If you look at internet metrics and there are plenty, money raised, Meet Up groups, attendances at rallies, straw poll wins, etc., Ron Paul's support is in line with the findings below... only the poll numbers are the ones that project a candidate with little or no support. Are we going to believe the poll data or our lying eyes!

would be 500 or MORE people
These 500 would be registered Republicans
These 500 would be found randomly, ie, not your friends or friends of friends or people at your job or even neighborhood.
These 500 people can be found on subways, at parks, at airports, and shopping centers. These areas people are very mixed in their views and walks of life. It is about as random group of people you can find other than random computer phone dialing of both cell and land lines.
Stay away from colleges, churches, and large office buildings for people of like mind often are there, thus skewing your results.
The poll that Ron Paul and the campaign needs is a Gallup or Zogby poll --- specifically of Registered Republicans WHO DID NOT VOTE in the last two elections for Bush. The Campaign NEEDS to know how Ron Paul is fairing among this group, and what it needs to do and emphasis to get THIS group to get off their butts and vote for Ron Paul.
I am just guessing, but I believe the group of republicans who did NOT vote for Bush in 2000 and 2004, is larger than the group that did vote for Bush. If that is true, then WE need to be addressing THESE republicans and their concerns ASAP.

Is this possible on a larger scale?
I realize that one must hire Zogby or its ilk in order to have a "legitimate" poll in the eyes of the media. But what if that weren't the point? Can we collect volunteers in dozens of cities to talk to 10-20 people each? What if we were to get a name from each person to keep out multiple votes? If we got 100 people from around the US to wear a button/shirt/hat/booth that said something like "PoliticalOpinions.com" or anything like that (we could make a site), and stand in the mall or the corner collecting the answer to the question: "Who are you going to vote for in the 2008 presidential race?" and nothing else, I bet we could get at least 1000 answers. We could then send the name-sheet totals to one location for tabulation and then publish the result to all the Paul sites. This wouldn't necessarily have a media impact, but it would give RP supporters a very good idea of the *real* current support level RP has among the average person. It would be important for the pollsters *not* to display any RP support during the collection of answers, to keep it fair. I think this would be a huge boost to the morale of the RP Base, and would give us a solid idea of how far we have left to go.

30 is way to small of a
30 is way to small of a sample size. But nevertheless this is encouraging. I'm really surprised the pollsters haven't tried a survey like this. We all know the the phone method is out of date and doesn't get a fair sampling for the voting population. I'm not sure how fair a sampling would be meeting people of the sidewalk is, but it has to be tons better than the phones. Good work!
Just a reminder
One "national Gallup Poll" released several weeks ago only polled 394 "Likely GOP voters"....proportionately speaking not much better than this "subway poll"...

I am a Canadian but have many friends in Detroit area so about two weeks ago I polled my friends some of their co-workers and family.
Economically depressed area people are fed up...
so here are the reasults;

sounds like you already converted all your friends and coworkers. most people i talk to here in florida still dont know about ron paul. everyone is all about obama or rudy

I converted my friends with a few youtube clips and they worked on their families and co-workers it went viral...it just shows what one person can do.
Michigan is a terrific place to spread the word seems like 90% of the folks once introduced to Ron's message become almost instant fans.
I strongly suggest going door to door with a laptop computer and show people "a new hope" and "stop dreaming" these are the best RP youtube videos.
