Old Barry Goldwater Ads

Hi folks! I was surfin on Hulu last night when I came across some old political ads from the 50's and 60's. They have a category called "Historic Campaign Ads". In it I came across a couple Barry Goldwater for President ads, and one for LBJ that attacked him.

Goldwater for President 1964

Reagan "I'm Mad" ad for Goldwater 1964

"Daisy ad" for Johnson 1964

I thought they were kind of interesting.

Ouch... True and very funny.

How deluded we are...

Who was Lyndon Johnson's hatchet man, which among other nefarious activities , was deeply involved in creating the daisy ad? None other than Bill Moyers.

It appears that maybe he's trying to compensate for his appalling behavior as a disinformation specialist during the Johnson administration through his role as a sanctimonious disinformation journalist on PBS. It's probably a better paying gig, and offers a lot more stability. Moyers and his kids have a media empire through PBS, controlling vast amounts of grant money for his production company. ;-{

For more on Moyers and his role in the LBJ administration check out (among other places) : http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2009/02/21/bill-moyers-ol...

FWIW, I had a chance to participate in an interview Senator Goldwater in 1996, at his house. What a cool and memorable experience. He was a character to the end, an Arizona original, and a champion of liberty.

His son is a chip off the old block.

Check out this Goldwater anti-Vietnam ad

Raymond Massey railing against our action in Vietnam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oF5pGXMjVo&feature=related

After doing a bunch of research, I'm still amazed what an upright and honest guy he was. It's too bad our nation of sheep fell for LBJ's politics of fear.

In your heart, you know he's right :-)

Great find!

Thank you.

Great ad!

Too bad people don't have that kind of guts to talk about the wars today. AND why weren't Americans listening in 1964?

The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment...Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight. Prov 12:19,22

I was a little girl

I remember my mother being very strong for Goldwater. A lot of people were. That Daisy Ad was so much garbage and what tipped it for Johnson. Johnson was a complete snake. Goldwater wasn't a war monger but we were in the cold war and there was a lot of threat there, make no mistake. So, he had to make it clear he was not going to be a bowl of mush and would stand firm. Johnson implied "love, love, love" which was exactly the opposite of what he did with Viet Nam. Evil.

Wow! I've never posted something that made it to the front page before. cool!

Things don't change much

Fear mongering and neoconseravitsm even then.

Actually, that was "pre-neoconservatism" time period.

before the liberals infiltrated the Republican Party as what we now call "neocons".
Back then, it was always the Democrats who got us into wars. After they infiltrated the Republicans in the 1980s, they used the Republicans for that purpose after that.

Partly true, but...

The Rockefeller wing of the GOP did a perfect hatchet job on Goldwater by the convention, making him unelectable as president. The Rockefeller "progressives" had been in charge since 1912, when Teddy Roosevelt betrayed William Howard Taft. They stole the GOP nomination from Taft's son, Robert, in 1940 and 1952. The neocons (Zionist Democrats) joined the party after the death of Democratic Senator "Scoop Jackson," briefly flirting with the GOP when Nixon took us off the gold standard, expanded the government with the EPA and DEA and temporarily instituted wage and price controls. However, the neocons really didn't dominate the party till the Reagan / Bush years. They gained absolute power after 911, reducing "Robert Taft" members of Congress to one, Ron Paul.

BTW, the most damaging political speech against Goldwater in 1964 was made by Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention.

Corect Me If I Am Wrong,

but didn't Goldwater oppose the Vietnam War? And isn't, therefore, the "Daisy" ad for Johnson totally misleading and unfair?

Well, it was really the early days

during that election period, and the discussion was more about "containment of the Soviet threat".
And Goldwater did support "containment" which would be considered "interventionist".

And so LBJ made a big deal out of that in his ads, and tried to paint Goldwater as a potential "nuclear button-pusher" wacko.

Ironically of course LBJ was the real war-monger, after he was elected he did all the war escalation.
Again, another example of lying to get into office, and doing the opposite of what they say.
They have a long and sordid history of it.

thanks for this...

some of these ad ideas could be revisited when its time to elect RP!!

The Reagan ad was really good. Goldwater would have won I think if the Rockafellers didn't go against him after they lost.

The Rockefellers were always against the Goldwaters...

Of course Rockefeller, Geithner and all of them including Lewis Libby/Doctor Frum would be against Goldwater.

Goldwater stood for the very opposite that these scum stand for......the "New Deal" democrats and that is why the big NWO chief players are still members of the Democratic party.
