Colorado GOP Chair change

Is anyone in Colorado following this?

I am a precinct committee person and, therefore, have a vote to cast. The only declared candidate to run against Dick Wadams is Bart Baron, an industrial engineer who lives in Palmer Lake and previously ran unsuccessfully for Congress in Michigan’s District 12 in 2000, and District 9 in 2002.

Below are a few possible candidates I’ve heard others discussing:

Mathew Arnold (of Clear The Bench Colorado!)
Bart Baron (the only announced candidate)
Leondray Gholston (current CO GOP Vice Chair)
Dick Wadhams (current CO GOP Chair)
Tom Wiens (ran as US Senate candidate)

Does anyone, here, have any thoughts or alternate candidates in mind. Do you have a vote in the process? This needs some attention. Let's talk about it and get people going!

Steve

Ted Harvey was supportive in 2008...

of course he was running for the 6th Congressional seat and we had a fairly strong grass roots organization in the 6th supporting Dr. Paul. I liked him, but, we splintered as a group between Harvey and Steve Ward.

Bonnie, if you are out there, what do you think about this?

I am new to Colorado and trying to find causus info here.

Can any of you Colorado give me some suggestions as to the best place to learn the process, before Feb. 7th? I was a delegate last election in Texas, but it is so much different here. Thanks.

Right here!

I think

Matt Arnold is too divisive. He recently lost his district captain election, and the only vote he garnered was his own. It's between Ryan Call and Ted Harvey, and we all know who's better: 2/24/11, Ted Harvey: "look how we treated the Ron Paul people in 2008!"

This is unprecedented

In Colorado, there's a record low number of bonus members in the republican party for the 2011 state reorganizational meeting, because it's based on how many voted for primary winner, but general loser, Dan Maes for state governor: http://www.craigsteiner.us/comments/306

I suspect the lack of bonus members will hurt Matt Arnold's campaign for state chair, and help Ted Harvey. Ryan Call, however, is Dick Wadhams' choice, and the process of him being groomed for the the state chair position by the RNC has been going on for years. They can see he has a remarkable talent for smiling in ones' face while he twists the knife in ones' back.

Please, if you live in Colorado, let your executive committee know who you want for state chair, or, at the very least, let them know you don't want Ryan Call. Only Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and El Paso counties have bonus members this time around, but let them know, too. Information ought to be the on county republican websites.

Those of us

in Colorado ought to contact our executive committee members and bonus members (Larimer, Arapahoe, Douglas, ElPaso and Jefferson counties only) and let our wishes be known. Be tactful, and concentrate on who you want for state chair, but feel free to make a case for why we don't want Ryan Call.

I went to

the R block party's state chair candidates' forum this evening. One of the questions was on the increased interest in conservatism these days, and how we can attract new conservatives to the party.

Ted Harvey, during his answer, complained the republicans haven't been good about attracting new people to the party in the past and said, and I quote, "look how we treated the Ron Paul people in 2008!"

He's my guy. I think if Ron Paul runs for president in 2012, Ted Harvey for chairman is our best bet to avoid a repeat of the 2008 state convention. If any of you have any questions or want to volunteer to help him out, his e-mail address is ted@tedharvey.com

I agree.

I agree.

Yes

A guy that owns a roofing business in Colorado...

I spoke to a friend of mine

who's friends with Dick Poole (but who in the Colorado republican party isn't friends with Dick Poole?) who is a close friend of Leondray Gholston's, and even Dick Poole is concerned between Leondray's seven children with an eighth on the way and a full time job he doesn't want to quit, Leondray doesn't really have the time to devote to being a good state chairman.

I've been leaning toward Ted Harvey from the beginning. Any other thoughts?

Well, I think my choice is

Well, I think my choice is going to go to Matt Arnold.

I don't think

he's officially announced yet. He would be one of the better candidates.

He has announced and spoke at

He has announced and spoke at the Colorado2012Project meeting last Saturday. I have to work on Saturdays and can't make them, but some friends are keeping me posted.

O.K., here we go

It's official, Matt Arnold has announced: http://www.kdvr.com/news/politics/kdvr-clear-the-bench-activ...
I still think I'm going with Ted Harvey. He has the best chance of beating Ryan Call. I don't know yet if I won a bonus member spot and have a vote, but I probably didn't.

Are you sure he announced?

He was present at the Arapahoe county reorganizational meeting on Tuesday and didn't say a word about running for state chair. If he's running, that doesn't make sense.

Here's the latest

bar grievance

Here is the bar grievance process:
http://www.coloradosupremecourt.com/Regulation/ProtocolforCo...

Those in the Denver GOP may have standing. Even if the state supreme court doesn't find him as being wrong (for living elsewhere than his voting registration) the malpractice insurance companies set rates based on the number of bar grievances (not the number of successful, just the absolute number).

It just takes a few minutes and a stamp to do this.

below the belt

I'm undecided about the race for State Chairman (still hoping a RP supporter gets in), but even I know that filing a grievance with the Supreme Court as a political tactic is hitting way below the belt.

I don't know Ryan Call from Adam, but we are talking about this guy's license to practice law and provide for his family. It will be hard to keep the principled high ground if folks here are pushing for this sort of dirty and cheap shot.

I'm in Colorado

and have been working "in the background" on this. There are a number of people working to get the right kind of person into this important office.

That's good!

I hope they realize Ryan Call is not the right kind of person.

wadhams is such a wimp.. he

wadhams is such a wimp.. he saw the writing on the wall and bailed before he would have had a butt kicking handed to him. I truly despise that wimp.
Hopefully we will get a good chairman this time around.

How about that?

The question is; who, here,

The question is; who, here, has a vote?

How many DP'rs are in a position to vote on this?

I'm working on it!

Good point.

According to state election law, all the reorganizational meetings were to have taken place between Feb. 1st and Feb. 15th. The exception is Arapahoe county, in which chairman Dave Kerber, under the legal counsel of Ryan Call, bent the rules and postponed it until the 22nd because of inclement weather on the 8th, when it was originally scheduled.

That means it's no longer possible, as a precinct leader or district captain, to base your vote for executive committee members on how they will vote at state unless you live in Arapahoe county. The best you can do is let your executive committee know your wishes.

I'm running for state bonus member in Arapahoe county, and I don't have a very good chance, but if I win I will have a vote for state chair.

saxxman,

Where are you? This needs some attention.

I meant

"Why did you abandon your thread?" But you're here now.

Ruth, Didn't mean to seem

Ruth,

Didn't mean to seem that way, but I didn't really see much happening in it.

I wonder how many DPrs are from Colorado?

We need to get more involved and start making a difference!

I am back, but I'm never really away.

By the way???

Is anyone, here, getting connected with "Colorado 2012 Project" ???

I'm in retail, in Vail, and haven't been able to attend the meetings, on Saturdays, in Denver.

Some people, I know, are also

Some people, I know, are also interested in Leondray Gholston. Yes he worked with Wadams, but I remember being impressed at the State Assembly and here's a video, where he says a lot that's right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM5xrgrMfOg

Any thoughts?
