Push to Legalize Pot: Maine Sheriff admits Federal Gov't. has lost "War on Drugs"

The Sheriff isn't the main focus in this interview, that would be legislator Diane Russell, but it's nice to hear a Sheriff with common sense ideas about Marijuana enforcement.

I hope Maine is successful in achieving their goal...if they are I may move there...even if it is freezing!

it's nice and sunny in colorado

and 1oz of cannabis is already legal in denver and marijuana is also the lowest law enforcement priority.

plus, there are MMJ dispensarys on every block, just under a 1000 last i checked.

colorado will fully legalize in 2012!

Not gonna happen. I

Not gonna happen. I promise. We can't even the medical dispensaries open. And with the new governor, highly doubtful.

Libertarian? I don't think so!

She is not a libertarian. She is a tax and spend liberal. The libertarian view is that it should be decriminalized, not legalized. It should not be made "legal", for then it can be regulated. It should never have been made illegal. Just as prohibition was unconstitutional, so is this. Our jails are full of non-violent "criminals", and the US remains top in the world in per capita incarcerations. I don't use it and don't want to use it, but personal responsibility goes hand in hand with freedom. Economically, if it was decriminalized, the ramifications are enormous.

Born and Reared in Maine

Although it does get cold in Maine (and also a bit snowy) I would consider moving back if this proposal is passed as a law... However, I would push the idea that "Hemp" be legalized to grow... If you really want a cash crop... It was a shame that "Hemp" was not discussed in the interview...
A former Mainer...

Really...

blew the whole interview at the end when she said she was not for legalization if pot was not taxed? What? Taxes and State revenue is the main concern. Marijuana should be legal period, no explanation warranted. Never should have been illegal. Sounds like all this woman is excited about is laying another tax on the people because you're giving them something when all your giving them is another tax. The Verrazano Bridge is about 5 minutes from my house, the toll on the bridge has gone up again I believe it's $13 to cross from Brooklyn into Staten Island. When I bring up the outrageous tolls to my bro he says "Yeah but Staten Island residents only pay half. We need a War On Taxation not Drugs or Terrorism.

9/11 was an inside job .....time to get some answers..RP 2012

The Tea Pot Party: Jack Herer

Our Platform
The goal of the Teapot Party is the legalization, regulation, and taxation of marijuana. We will endorse political candidates who are against the arrest of individuals who choose to smoke marijuana for medicinal or personal use. However.......keep in mind "we lean a little to the left".
We support the causes of peace, education, increasing personal freedom, legalizing and utilizing industrialized hemp, legalizing marijuana, drug law reform, and ending poverty.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

Thanks for posting this...

Willie Nelson also started a Tea Pot Party and it's got chapters statewide.

I'm wondering

where is the nearest Palm Tree?

Ron Paul is My President

There are palm trees here in St. Lucia...

and we sure need them to hide from the unbearable intensity of the sun!

Darn you Michael...

I know you have palm trees. I surely do.
Sorry. It's just so incredibly cold it kinda puts me in a tizzy.

But as to my question - I think the nearest Palm tree to me is in Georgia.

It's a question that comes up for me this time of year when it's really cold.

Well, it's almost 9 a.m. here in Austin, Sun is shining and we are supposed to hit 60 degrees today, so you may be right about that cold weather Sunny. But then again, if I were to go outside and smoke a joint or go buy weed openly I could be enjoying that sunshine from Austin's jail. I guess theres always give and take. Sometimes I would take some bitter cold for a lot more freedom...but I DO like my Texas sunshine! :)
I applaud the people of Maine for at least trying to make this happen. As much talk as Texans do about being bad asses and living by their own rules they sure do love imprisoning people for non-violent crimes. oh, and they love killin' inmates too. In fact a lot wear that as a badge of pride. Most executions in the nation, yes sir! Somethin to take pride in I guess. :(
