Why we need a larger donation:
I have called HQ and asked about the MLK fundraiser and whether or not Ron had formally endorsed the fundraiser and spoke with several people who told me the same thing, that is, that they have nothing to do with the grassroots effort of raising funds. Having said that, I might suggest that the mere mention of it by Ron Paul, for whatever reason, would be somewhat an “informal” endorsement even if it was just a passing comment. The “Carpetbomb of Money” event was supposed to unify everyone under the banner of freedom, prosperity and peace. The goal was supposed to be 1 Million per day. Even at 1 Million per day, 23 Million is a lot to raise. 7 Days would give us a huge amount of time and let everyone get in. Now, before anyone suggests that I’m a troll (I’m an Iowa delegate) or that I’m not loyal (I’ve been working non-stop), let me suggest that I think in light of present events it would be a good idea to throw as much money as possible on January 21st and give a good showing. If you, for whatever reason cannot donate on that day, (your payday falls on another day, for example) I recommend that you donate on one of the “Carpetbomb Days” between the 15th and the 21st. The idea is that you get your money in early so as to show a strong support for the quarter. The bigger issue is not the choice of day, but how much we need to raise. If say, only 20,000, support the MLK day event, we will not raise as much as we need to. This is less a publicity issue than it is an issue of funds and need.

We had compromised on the dates so that everyone would have a chance to weigh in. We have agreed that $10.00 was not enough and we had decided that the amount would actually go up to $125.00. We expanded the days not just to accomodate different ideas, but to allow everyone to donate on a different “payday” as they were able. So the suggested donation was $17.76 or $25.00 per day starting Jan.15th (a common payday) to midnight (technically the 22nd) = 7 days. If you plan to donate ONLY on MLK day (Jan 21st.), I’m for it, just make it count. Donate between $100.00 to $125.00. The meetup groups all around the country have been informed about the different days. Both events are being promoted together.

Question, if it is a question of how much... how about we get Trevor to make a statement. I mean, is this about raising money or not? If we are going to schedule a singular day, wouldn't 125 dollars per person goal be better than ten dollars? All it would take is someone like Nystrom or Trevor to weigh in. 10 dollars is way too low of a number from the 100 we're use to.... I know financial constraints are a factor but still, there are always new supporters joinging the revolution..
and at the current rate (over 6 thousands pledges)..it wouldn't be much of a money bomb. ($60,000)
I know people are going to donate a lot more, but it should be set up aatleast 50dollar pledges so we have a better projection on how much is being raised.

Itll be spun negative no matter what. But in my estimation since he has already announced it- on VIDEO we need to ensure we dont 1. make him look floppy and 2. answer for the change- that can be spun to make US look like we couldnt agree to celebrate MLK. Its more defensable if we say "hey - this is an important NATIONAL holiday" - rather than "theres been a change of plans due to unforseen circumstances". The important thing to remember is that this was planned BEFORE the garbage of the newsletters was so valiantly dug up -so it is a weak argument that we are posturing as a reaction. Also since we may get flak for not meeting the kind of goals we have previously- we do TWO. a 2nd on the 31st - and harness a little bit of the exposure. Alot of people may not be onboard for this for a myriad of reasons- and one week showing may look negative- 2 mediochre bombs is what Id cast my vote for- psst an earler poster made a valid point regarding the negativity of this thread- may be a good idea to scrap it and start fresh- i tend to agree

The problem with that idea...
Is that the media won't notice, but it will benefit the (evil, just trust me on this one) banks and credit card companies with higher fees than if you'd just given in one chunk to the campaign. Any donation is better than none, of course, but please consider the total CC fees so far paid by the RP campaign. I don't know the size of that number, but I suspect it might shock you if I did.

...you knew that. Come on folks. Free at Last 2008 has been up for weeks and you're just now noticing it. If RP knew about Free At Last, then he knew the site was only asking for $10 and not a $100 per pledge. Perhaps that's why he said another BIG day was planned on MLK day. To make it BIG. To silence these critics forever. Anyone suggesting that we not make this day a big success is playing into those hands that repeatedly attempt to slap us around. Silence the critics and unite the people under the message of freedom that MLK championed. We are not promoting the messenger, but are promoting the message. It all ties together. We've had ample time to recoup after Dec. 16th. and the New Years donation. Let's roll out the big guns and promote this puppy as much as possible. On CNN, Ron Paul and Wolf Blitzer talk about racism allegations and the upcoming freeatlast2008 event,a March and a Donation day like teaparty07. Dr. Paul mentioned the next money bomb will occur on MLK day *Jan 21st*! He has gone out on a limb and put his faith in us, I think this is something we all need right now before Feb 5, a march and donation day to break up the time spent canvassing.
