Kelly Williams-Bolar: A convicted felon for sending her children to a white school

An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and
placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was sentenced by Judge Patricia Cosgrove on Tuesday and will begin serving her sentence immediately.

The jury deliberated for seven hours and the courtroom was packed as the sentence was handed down. She was convicted on two counts of tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living with Williams Bolar’s father when they actually lived with her. The family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio, and the father’s address was in nearby Copley Township.

Additionally, Williams-Bolar’s father, Edward L. Williams, was charged with a fourth-degree felony of grand theft, in which he and his daughter are charged with defrauding the school system for two years of educational services for their girls. The court determined that sending their children to the wrong school was worth $30,500 in tuition.

The Judge and the Huckster discuss this case ...

Governor Kasich needs to step up and do what is right in this case.

This made Drudge Report today.

It amazes me that topics usually hit here before they hit Drudge.

I bet he mines this site regularly for interesting links.

This is not a 'racial' issue.

This is not a 'racial' issue. Copley is not open-enrollment school district as many in Ohio are. Choice is up to each district. 'Cheating' happens all the time and she just got caught. I'm not a supporter of any government schools and Akron is notoriously putrid. I feel for any family trapped in that city regardless their color.

Trust in God, but tie your camel tight.

I agree...

There's nothing "racial" about this story at all. There's no such thing as a "white" school or "black" school.

The fact that she was convicted of a felony and is currently in a jail cell serving time because she fraudulently enrolled her black kids into a white school is not a racial thing?

Can you ever find for me an example of the same thing happening to a white woman?

If this is not a racial thing then MLK was not killed because he was black.

One more reason to homeschool,

if you are able. (It's sure cheaper than moving!)

But its perfectly okay for

But its perfectly okay for illegal immigrants to come here and steal all the free education they want without ever paying into the system.

Ahh Ohio,the land of jails

Ahh Ohio, the land of jails and prisons.Where unions dominate and the majority of people are aggressive(physically and in their choice of "representatives").
My advice to her and her family, and anyone else in Ohio, flee the state as many others have.

Her father paid the taxes

into the town system, so what's the deal? He's getting his money back for his family. The mom is paying taxes into the community where she lives, and others are benefiting/stealing from what she pays. It'll never be fair. But this case doesn't bother me in the least.

Colchester, New London County, Connecticut

Actually, she isn't paying in taxes

she's being paid to live there. If she's living on other programs, which she automatically qualifies for, I doubt she's paid a cent in taxes.

How is this news?

This happens all the time in Louisiana. If you lie to have your education paid for by tax payers, make damned sure you are paying taxes in that district. It's theft and document tampering.

This is why a lot of schools won't do carpool, it's bussed only.

How is it theft?

This involved public education.

The only stealing going on is by the government.

We live in this system and we make the most of it.

We collect our SS checks.

We buy the government subsidized food at a discount.

She was trying to make the most of the hand that she was dealt.

If anything, she saved the taxpayer money. I garauntee it cost less to educate those kids in that white school than it would have in the money pit, urban schools.

The funny thing is that in Ohio we have vouchers. If she filled out the proper paper work and sent her kids to a private school, it all would have been perfectly legal.

She stole in several ways.

She lived in free housing in one district, then lied on documents to get them in school on another tax payer's back. So really she was having her cake and eating it too. That doesn't smell like theft to you? Really?

We are having that same problem here. We had hundreds of children in just one school that had no address in this district. We have a much higher school tax here than Baton Rouge. It really pisses me off that these deadbeats bring their kids to stuff our classes to the max and create a bad learning environment. The student to teacher ratio in one school ballooned to 42 to 1.

With all due respect ...

I think you actually proved my point with your response to Aphrodite.

If she doesn't pay any taxes and yet gets taxpayer subsidy to live where she does, using your logic, she should be a convicted felon simply by participating in government programs.

Every person who is a net drain on government coffers should be a convicted felon.

I go accross the river to KY to buy my alcohol because there is less taxes and it is cheaper. Should I be convicted felon?

Her father is paying the school tax in that district and he doesn't have any kids that go to school there.

I understand that it was technically wrong, but what I am saying is that it is stupid.

The sickest thing about this whole situation is that she only had a few more college classes to go before becoming a teacher. She was trying to better herself and her kids.

Guess what?

In Ohio, you cannot become a teacher if you are convicted felon.

bet she used

a court appointed attorney. I bet in his entire carrier he never won a single case.

note learn to defend yourself because their lawyers are not going to defend you.
