Hunter S. Thompson

I am currently reading Hunter S. Thompson's "Songs of the Doomed," and I am convinced if Thompson was alive today he would be thrilled by Dr.Paul's campaign and might have even lent his expertise (he was very much involved in politics in the '70s).
R.I.P. Hunter S. Thompson, I wish you were alive to experience this campaign. There's still a little hope for us all yet....

Hunter was pro guns and drugs but very liberal
Don't get me wrong he was against this war, was the voice over on the 9-11 Loose Change video and I think felt defeated and really lost it when Bush won again. I loved his stuff because he had a way of saying things that were so off beat but to the heart of the topic. When neighbor and actor Don Johnson once asked Thompson: What is the sound of one hand clapping? Thompson responded by slapping Johnson across the face. (think about the brilliance and all the levels of that response : )
He interviewed Carter and Clinton the summers before they took the White House and in his book 1972 Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail where he "puckishly speculated that Democratic Sen. Ed Muskie -- the early front-runner, whose poor showing in the New Hampshire primary doomed his candidacy -- was under the influence of a psychoactive drug, Ibogaine; routinely mocked candidate and senator Hubert H. Humphrey ("the Hump"); and bemoaned Nixon's looming victory by proclaiming, "Jesus, where will it end? How low do you have to stoop in this country to become president?"
His Eulogy for Nixon summed up his feelings I think not only for Nixon but the Neocons like Rudy (who reminds me a lot of Nixon's demeanor)
He was a monster and a terrible voice for justice, but maybe a little too out there for the good doctor.
"In short, you see, the essential is to cease being free and to obey, in repentance, a greater rogue than oneself. When we are all guilty, that will be democracy. Without countering, cher ami, that we must take revenge for having to die alone. Death is so
Hunter was killed
because he was about to release some incriminating evidence against operatives within our government for the 9/11 attacks. He even said a few days before his death, "there gonna kill me and they're gonna make it look like suicide. I know how these bastards work."
OF COURSE HE WOULD BE A PAUL CAMPAIGNER!!!!
He was ALL about liberty and honest patriotism. (Plus he loved his guns and drugs and freedom of speech.)
thompson is great.....
yeah he had some serious weaponry, you should watch his interview with Conan, its one of the funniest interviews ive ever seen, here is only part of it (when they are shooting guns):

I'm guessing he definitely would have supported Dr. Paul.
Perhaps...
Hunter definitely falls into the same line of 'leave me alone' libertarians, but he did have his own populist beliefs and corporate paranoias. I think that he would have ultimately enjoyed writing about this campaign and eventually endorsing it.
Read "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72" and you will have read a great classic of Modern American Politics.
