Social Bookmarking on the Daily PaulSubmitted by Site Updates on Wed, 02/16/2011 - 09:52
You might have noticed the Share/Save button at the bottom of every content node:
Here's what you can do with it:
Hover over the button to bring up a pop-up window that shows you sharing options. There are three tabs.
Social Bookmarking (Share/Save)
Social bookmarking is basically saving links and pages you like to a site (like Facebook) where you can share those links with others.
If you're into that, go ahead and share DP articles you like with others to spread the word.
Some sites let you save the link for your own personal reference without having to share it with others.
There's Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Digg, Google, MySpace, Reddit, Yahoo, Microsoft, StumbleUpon and a whole lot more (click on the down arrow).
You can email the current page's link to anyone you like.
- You can use Google/Yahoo/Hotmail/AOL.
- Or click on Any Email to use an external service to send the link by email.
- Or click on the Email Application button (with the icons) to send the link with your own Outlook/Thunderbird/other desktop mail application.
This just reminds you of the key combination to bookmark the page in your browser.
The URL saved to your bookmarking site will be the "short URL": I.e, instead of
www .dailypaul .com/157287/social-bookmarking-on-the-daily-paul
The short URL automatically redirects to the longer one. (Try it!)
Also, the button with the popup is shown at the bottom of every node. But for this node only, the popup is only on the button at the top of this node. You can still click the button to go to a page where you can do your sharing.
