Ron Paul on John Stossel show February 17, 2011

Thanks TenBobNote

What will a libertarian future look like? On my show tonight, I have Congressman Ron Paul on to propose a solution to cut government down to size.

But what if efforts to cut government don’t work? What if government only gets worse?

Patri Friedman, the grandson of Milton Friedman, says that the answer to bad government is competition. So he started the “Seasteading Institute” to push for the creation of new governments. Since current governments monopolize all the land, the new governments would be on the "high seas," outside of the control of current governments. “Let a thousands nations bloom,” Patri says. I write about that in my syndicated column this week:

Glad for clarification...

I'm a bit underwhelmed,... since I have already opted out and it didn't cost me 10%.

...just shows how brainwashed we have become regarding our acceptance of extortion. :/

A quiet Civil War....

It has to be looked at for what it would be:
a 'competition' among the governed... for what the
role of Government ought to be.
A 'quiet' Civil war.... without the 'geographics' of North v. South.
Might make for a good fiction novel...
I could think up some 'fun' scenarios to probably fill a book.
I double dare the Congress to do it

Excellent

Ron Paul Ticks me Off

How dare he make simple irrefutable sense on national television -- it's scandalous.

John plays an great skeptical antagonist.

One doesn't have to compromise even if one suggests a compromise to kick that can down the road.

Consent of the governed can only be valid if the facility for the "redress of grievance" is fully operational.

Consent is always voluntary. A majority cannot create a universal popularity and it cannot suspend anyones rights.

It was a thought provoking interview.

Great interview

Stossel's people do some editing I don't like, but I'm sure it was for the best.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

He loves discussing his views with people directly

This was great! You could see how happy he was being able to discuss his views without being denigrated by some talking head in between him and the constituent. Great to see. Thanks for posting this.

Great clip from my 2 favorite libertarians

Paul/Stossel in '12.

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

Awesome. I was surprised he

Awesome.

I was surprised he didn't quickly explain to the student that government policy and subsidizing in grants and loans has led to higher tuition. His other points in his explanation were good but I think students need to understand how government interference has worsened the situation and created inflation and unaffordability in education. Of course he did well with little time.

.

I think his response of living in a free society will lower prices and create more jobs was good.

I especially like his point where says that if highschoolers only think they can be something if the government takes care of them is sad.

Yea, that one kid didn't

Yea, that one kid didn't learn anything. He probably thought "300 bucks for a semester?! This guy's old."

But not fair when you get to be on tv for 7 minutes at a time.

the longer point may have also been edited out

Stossel's crew has heavy editing to fit the time space. Watch again, there are unnatural cuts in it.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

Yesh.

I was waiting for that as well. Don't have much time to touch on everything, but that would have been a good quick answer. More tuition, and more debt.
