Ron Paul Supporters! NPR Wants to Hear from You!
Submitted by Michael Nystrom on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 09:52Bennett Roth of the Houston Chronicle gave the home view of GOP candidate Ron Paul today. Roth says it's hard to tell where Paul's supporters are coming from, but he argues the most ardent backing is not in Texas but in places like California and Florida.
Roth thinks Paul has become such an Internet phenomenon in part because he connects with a demographic that finds a natural outlet online...

Proud to be a revolutionary...my NPR story
I am a graphic designer who has voted the democratic ticket her whole life. I energetically got out the vote for Bill Clinton and John Kerry, but have changed my party affiliation to vote in the California primary for our authentic and beloved Dr. Paul, the man who's hero is Mahatma Ghandi and who self-admittedly takes his marching orders from the Constitution.
I am a political activist who became more active when I educated myself on the two most pressing issues of our time that could destroy our beautiful country, illegal immigration and the Iraq War. The democratic candidates bullheadedly support amnesty and do not take our sovereignty seriously. The democrats...MY party, were swept into office to end the war. They have not. I feel betrayed.
Then in two separate debates I watched a man of extraordinary intellect thrillingly spar with both Guiliani and Huckabee saying how our foreign policy increases terrorism and we needed to Just Come Home now. We need to bring our troops home from the 133 countries that we occupy, strengthen our military and defend our own borders. Voila. These are just two of his thoughtful positions and the more I learn, the more I love this great man. I cannot believe our great good fortune in having him, and praise doesn't get any higher than when I say, Dr. Paul is true Founding Father material.
Here was mine:
I am 36 years old, married, father of two wonderful sons, and work as a technical trainer for a major computer manufacturer. I've considered myself a Republican my entire life. My introduction to the GOP was Ronald Reagan on TV when I was just a kid. Even as a kid I understood the reason the Iranians took the hostages (the situation that ultimately led to the end of the disastrous Carter administration) was because we had covertly helped overthrow their government and install a dictator "favorable" to America. Now I have a 14 year old son who will be of draft age before the end of the next President's first term. My wife is a teacher who has strong feelings about the Federal Dept. of Ed.'s meddling and tying the hands of teachers to actually meet the needs of their students. I believe that BOTH OF US having to work from January to June just to pay the obscene and immoral taxes imposed upon us is criminal and that government has overstepped its bounds for generations. I believe that liberty should never be sacrificed just to feel a little safer. I feel that the Republican Party has forsaken true conservatism and has strayed from the principles of Goldwater and Taft. Neocons are NOT true Republicans. Ron Paul is the only real conservative. Anyone who touts a war that doesn't meet the criteria for the Christian Just War Principle is not worthy of calling themselves Republican.

Well said!
Ron Paul'08
I wrote this to NPR...
I am a 55 year old father of a 12 year old boy. My wife is 53 and we are married for 25 years. We have always been and continue to live in the suburbs of New York.
One day, just a few short weeks ago toward the end of November of '07, I stumbled upon a Ron Paul video (created by an independent supporter) on the web and then looked for more.
I was quite taken by Ron Paul's positions which seem to be well thought out, his humble background, his lifelong consistency in both public and private life, his incredible level of INTEGRITY, his compassion for others that our country has wronged, and his apparent LACK of an ego driven motivation to become president.
In just a few short weeks I have come to LOVE this man for his fatherly sacrifices and unwaivering INTEGRITY!
As I have aged in this life, I have come to recognize that my childhood notions of this great country were more like illusions! I have been disappointed countless times by ego driven candidates promising to make real change. I have become absolutely disgusted by special interest groups that have a strangle hold on a greedy egocentric congress, president, and mass media.
Ron Paul may just be the one whose ideals and ideas will seed our collective conscientiousness and rescue us from this nightmare. Let's see an end to our imperialism around the world and let's stop the confiscation and erosion of our rights at home.
Be present, tread softly, breath deeply, be peaceful, be patient, and encourage others.

When you read through the responses and see how different we all are, it just makes your heart soar.
I really believe Ron Paul is going to win this election.
I did post my intelligent response, but
..I couldn't resist adding another one:
I'm 19, wear black clotes, am a computer hack, and live in my Mom's basement. I live off of cheetos and mountain dew. Expectedly enough, I have virally created all of the responses to this thread.
Its great
to see all the "normal", smart, intelligent, professional, etc. people posting their stories. I thought we were all white supremacist, tinfoil hat wearing, Glen Beck threatening, nutjobs?????
