Police State Amerika: $31 of pot gave mom a 10-year-prison sentence

http://newsok.com/article/3542585

Because of $31 in marijuana sales, Patricia Marilyn Spottedcrow is now serving 10 years in prison, has been taken away from her four young children and husband, and has ended her work in nursing homes.

Three days before Christmas, Spottedcrow, 25, entered the Eddie Warrior Correctional Center.

“I'm nervous … because it's prison … people I don't know,” she said.

“People said don't get too comfortable here or you'll be here longer. Don't make too many friends. Come and do your time and get out.”

"possession of a dangerous substance"

It is possession of legitimate authority that is in dispute here, is it not?

1) Who gets to define the term, "dangerous", as it is applied to any activity or substance,

2) How does an easily-grown, unaltered, natural plant material get classified as a "substance" so designated, and

3) How does "possession" of that natural plant material, in any weight or volume, and in proximity to the person themselves, their family, their neighborhood, state, and/or country, create a threat of danger to any or all of them?

It would seem that those who wield the reigns of power in Oklahoma needed Mrs. Spottedcrow's example to be held in the public view so that anyone who dares to differ with their definitions, no matter how reasonably, should learn by her example how others Oklahomans should expect to be treated.

Awful story!! It is a bloody shame!

How'd you feel if that was heroin she was selling?

How'd you feel if that was heroin she was selling? How about if it were cocaine? What about meth? What if it was $100,000,000.00 USD worth of marijuana, what then? Would you still be as outraged at her plight?

Many free animals that have walked this earth

Have attempted to find leaves, flowers, even rotting fruit to ingest in the persuit of happiness, human animals are no different. I haven't taken an illegal drug since the early eighties, but I know that all drugs should be free to use and share with any adult.

Yup. A productive life and

Yup.

A productive life and family would still be needlessly wrecked and the taxpayers would still foot the bill to wrongly incarcerate a peaceful human for a victimless crime.

I mean 'yes' I would still be outraged!

Selling something to a willing buyer infringes upon no ones life liberty or property.

I don't care if she was naked on a street corner holding a machine gun selling crack to 13 year olds. None of those things infringe upon any individuals life liberty or property.

To all the yes responses above...

You clearly understand what liberty and freedom are and would mean.

I'd encourage people not to use drugs, or buy drugs, or sell drugs, but those are my personal choices based on my personal beliefs. I understand that if I wish to be free though, that I must allow others who are peaceful and not harming me to also be free to do as they wish.

For those of you reading this thread who can't see letting someone do as they wish, please understand that it is your belief that you somehow have some right to control the behavior of others that has led to the lack of freedom that everyone is subjected to at the hands of the people who are 'the government'. You'll never be free unless you're willing to let others be free.

Studies show ... that if a naked man with a machine gun

was running down the street, the average person would say, "There's a naked man running down the street!".

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

I am not naked & don't own a machine gun...

war on drugs is a war on the people!

Yes.

Prisons should not be holding non-violent drug offenders -- period.
Big Pharma is killing millions of people with legal drugs and nobody gets to prison.

Ads show happy scenes with horriffic side-effects disclaimer

The big-pharma TV ads offer the possibility of a targeted health benefit, while fulfilling the legal requirement of reporting a partial listing of all known "side-effects", as listed in the Physician's Desk Reference, including death!

The medical marijuana patients that I know ingest just enough to benefit from its reasonable use, without presenting any noticeable negative impact to themselves or those around them.

The article doesn't address whether the mother and her adult daughter weren't possibly simply attempting to offer what other states recognize as medicinal, because in OK, it is not and so it's a mute point.

With the cited amounts being so small, and the risks for such small sales being so much greater, it might indicate that they possibly have been motivated to offer a better, safer remedy than big-pharma is able to manufacture.

"Its not entirely about the money but i think i can speak for everyone when i say i don't want to help pay $50,000/yr for this woman to go to prison. So speaking selfishly i dont want my taxes to go towards non-violent incarcerations."

Makes sense. Banksters free her in jail

This is getting out of hand.

I don't know the case

but these judges hand out some lopsided sentences for non violent offenses.

Too often the time does NOT match the crime. They act like time in jail means nothing and it's just a game to them.

When they have a murder sentance they slap the wrist.

she should have worked for Goldman & Sacks...

banksters have nothing to fear from these evil judges.

I'd say she was Technicaly

I'd say she was Technicaly "legaly" wrong, I don't see how anything she did was wrong at all, selling plant matter is done all the time and isn't considered a crime...

Maybe if our prisons were not owned by judges, prosecutors and politicos we would have less of them
