In Arlington County Republican Committee v. Arlington County (1993), a three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals invalidated a county law that imposed a two-sign limit on temporary signs for each residence. The court noted that “the two-sign limit infringes on this speech by preventing homeowners from expressing support for more than two candidates when there are numerous contested elections.”

If it's a city saying this, it's probably an unConstitutional limitation on your first amendment rights. If it's a housing association, you're probably SOL.

Contact the ACLU with an explanation of the issue and they'll probably give you a form to read to the city attorney who will then drop the issue.

Many places have zoning laws like that though. It is only unconstitutional when they try to limit the content of your sign. Certainly you should be allowed to paint your house however you please, unless you live in a community with covenants, but you most certainly would know about those as you probably would have had to sign an agreement to abide by them.

Yeah, call your zonong office and ask exactly what the law says. Ask what the number of the relevant statute is, and read it for yoiur self. If they are wrong, or the law is ambiguous, then ignore it. Don't be pushed around. If they are right, well OK, but if they are wrong, screw em. Your rights are your rights, but only if you stand up for them. We can all expect a lot more harassment in the days to come. So, enjoy it, and force the system to work for you.( BTW, I have corrected cops about signs on public property before. They are not always right).

We have so much to loose without Ron Paul running the show.

Get a report from the city on all other addresses that have been forced to compy with the same "code".

Are there any? Are they all Ron Paul?

Take a drive around and see what you can see of other candidates' signs.

Is the ZBA being consistent and fair?
