CBS News: Rand Paul for president? New senator mulls a run

Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, the iconic libertarian who made a splash in the 2008 Republican presidential primary, has entertained speculation about another presidential bid. It turns out, however, that the 2012 libertarian candidate may, in fact, be his son Rand.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, fresh off his Tea Party-backed 2010 Senate victory, is traveling to various key primary states to test the waters for a potential presidential bid. The only sure thing that would keep him out of the race would be his father's candidacy.

"I wouldn't say it's the most likely thing in the world, but he's keeping it on the table," a Paul family adviser tells Hotsheet. "His dad is likely to go ahead and do it. And if his dad doesn't do it, it seems like there would be a dearth of candidates out there who are serious about taking on problems."

The adviser added, "There's better than a 50/50 chance that there will be a Paul in this race."

There getting desperate,

There getting desperate, trying to pit Dad & Son against each other. Not going to work, when Dr. Ron Paul annouces it will be phenomenal & they all know it. End the Fed!

Ron Runs and gets kicked out Rand runs Independent

I think THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN (I've said this like a million times now) That Ron does the GOP debates. Gets kicked to the curb. Rand runs Independent (which would test the Tea Party) with Ron as VP.

Paul / Paul 2012

Too early Rand...

Too early.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

CBS ran this story because it's a bad idea for him to run

next year. Pretty obvious. 2016 would be a good year, with a full Senatorial term of accomplishments and successes under his belt.

How long was Obama in office before he ran for President?

oh yeah....

in 2016 he's got to get re-elected as a senator, he needs to run in 2012 when he won't have to worry about his senate seat

Rand is not a career politician yet

I don't think he's "worried" about being re-elected as a Senator.

Onward, how much 'wisdom' do

Onward, how much 'wisdom' do you think Rand has gleaned from his close experiences with his Dad? He's been there with him for much of his youth, I'd warrant.

Probably a lot. And probably a Presidential run annoucement

only a few months into his first public office is a little too much. I think this is a complex undertaking and it is not optimal for him.

I don't ever recall using that phrase.

Rand has all wisdom and knowledge needed

did you read his book?
Tea Party Goes To Washington.

I am sure you did not because if you did you would not say such words.

When is the time for America to be free?
Or now?

Why be dramatic and misleading?

I don't know you, but who are you to tell me "why say such words" as though I am trying to blaspheme something?

If you haven't noticed, *none* of the leading contenders in the GOP 2012 Presidential field have announced. Rand has said he won't run vs. his dad. So just calm down.

nothing personal

one of Paul's most probably will run so if it's Rand we should stand behind him and not suggest it's too early for him to aim so high now.

Ron Paul Has To Run

There is no substitute for Ron Paul.

No one has his encyclopedia-like knowledge of all the CIA activities, the CFR, the history of Central Banking, our disgraceful U.S. Foreign Policy (over the course of 150 years), and can make the argument about the foolishness our our Militarism, World Empire policies, and Monetary policies better than Ron Paul. He's the guy.

And it is not enough just to run a "Libertarian" here. The chances of winning would be slim to none.

Ron Paul is much more than just that. He is an educator, who enlightened masses of people back in 2007-2008 (including liberals, progressives, independents, etc.). The GOP managed somehow to suppress his "official" election result counts -- but he won nearly ever GOP Straw Poll, and he won all the TV Debates. This demonstrates the huge potential that awaits Ron Paul, and he must not sit by on the sidelines.

He's the only guy who can stand there next 5 people spouting off Neocon red meat while the Media fawns over them -- and shoot them all down.

No one else even comes close.

I don't know why Ron Paul isn't already out there setting up Campaign Headquarters all across Iowa and New Hampshire. This is his moment, and people already donated $700,000 dollars (and had he formally announced, the number would have been twice, or three times that high).

Ron Paul can't sit on the sidelines. His powerless subcommitee chairmanship won't change a damn thing -- but his winning New Hampshire will electrify the Country, and create a whole new wave of support that will carry him to the White House, and bring about a dramatic makeover of our Government.

Ron Paul has to run, and there is no equivalent substitute.

We all want him to run

But he won't run. He's left that behind, IMO.

a little early

I think Rand is a little too green for a presidential run. He will get the really tricky questions and has not had the experience to answer them without giving soundbites the status quo could use against him. Example would be the civil rights act question he fumbled.

I dont think it looks well for him to even be considering a run

I just get the feeling that

I just get the feeling that there's a reason Ron is incredibly hesitant to run. He might really want to run or he might not, but something is causing him to hesitate. Maybe his wife's health, or his. But he knows the ideas have to get out there.

I hope Rand runs, I think with Ron's financial and organizational ties, coupled with Rand's Tea Party backing, he has a better shot.

fascinating times

Amazing how fast things/times change. I'm actually warming to the idea of Rand running! It's even fairly traditional in the Republican party to run more than once before winning the primary. If Ron doesn't run (he could still raise tons of money for Rand.), Rand would sure shake things up in the debates. And if Palin endorsed him, it would be all over...as much as it would creep lots of us out!

great comment

Such an exciting time.
When I was posting this article on Daily Paul I asked the guy next to me to check out my website and DP and the first thing the guy said "I like Kucinich a lot" and then I pointed to the Rand article and amazingly he said "I hope he runs we need anti-war candidates to run".

Rand is the same age as Obama.
Great speaker.
His book is well received...he has the as I call "JFK good looks" which is important -- draws attention from female voters.
Now if we can raise let's say 50 million FRN's for him he should have no problem winning.

I actually think he should

I actually think he should run also. Why bother waiting to run? He has the benefit of experience from his dad and he obviously knows his way around the Constitution... Run, Rand, Run!

I think he should, he does

I think he should, he does better on TV and that can't be understated.

Why Not Paul & Paul 2012?

I'll have put up two DOLLARs for that ticket.

Why would you suggest a

Why would you suggest a Paul-Paul ticket if you "honestly" thought there'd be no election in 2012? Crazy talk.

Governments are Literally a Figment of The Imagination

A Paul Paul ticket would capture the imagination of Americans much the way black/white Obama did but this time in a genuine way. I said 50/50 there could be no U.S. Election in 2012. If Paul Paul were elected there would be no more U.S. Government or did you not understand what Ending the Fed means in legal terms? The Fed is the Bank of England which means no Fed, no Crown corporation in America anymore. The Revolution is a lot bigger than you can imagine. 50/50 The Revolution happens before the U.S. Election anyway. The important thing is to reimagine the world without THEM. How we get there is not so important. Election or various paths to revolution could all work.

The Oracle

The Revolution is also

smaller than many of us would like to admit. What was OUR impact on the last presidential election. When you really get down to it, our impact turned out to be quite small. The results speak for themselves.

Yes, and No

The revolution "within" The United States will only show the tip of the iceberg at the ballot box because the system is rigged. Given a real choice of whether to live "within" The United States or to go back to being free Americans pre- FDR's communist State "without" The United States I think an awful lot of people will opt out of the commune.
Imagine life "without" the federal reserve note, without drug laws, without jaywalking tickets, without income taxes, without property taxes, without any federal statutes limiting you living your life freely.
Would you like that? You can have it now. Just expatriate using title 18 or use the remedy provided under HJR 192 and use your citizen ship as a go between to remain connected to Babylon without being "of" her. See the comment by riceowlex today under ASwann's Post "Is the social security number a license to engage in interstate commerce". See comment called "Last week I filed a $500 million USD Indemnity Bond..." Myself, Kingsof Commerce, Julius Bragg got you covered if you want to have your own personal revolution and dump the fed and get your money back. Julius will warn you of the risks of half measures and I agree! Riceowlex, KingsofCommerce and a couple other guys here on DP know how to get you out of The United States if you want out. Everyone of us who gets out reduces the Feudal Reserves Power and increases ours. Feel free to read a whole series of comments I wrote about two weeks ago. The directions are there to get out. You can also contact me for more specific help. There are already a number of DP'ers who have and are going crazy exploring what I showed them. In a month or two they will be full blown Neo's. Would you like to see the real world? I can open your eyes for the first time, but there is no going back once you see the Truth about the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you.
