Rand Paul: odds good 1 of Pauls will run for prez

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul says the odds are better than 50-50 that a Paul will run for president next year but it's unclear who would be the family standard-bearer. But one thing is certain: the younger Paul won't make a bid for the White House if his father, Ron Paul, tries again.

Ron Paul, a U.S. representative from Texas, unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in 2008. Now Rand Paul, the junior Kentucky senator and tea party favorite, is being encouraged to jump into the coming political fray if his father sits out next year's race- never mind that he's only weeks into the job after one of the most-watched Senate races last fall.

The Kentucky senator said he's not ruling out a bid if his father decides against a repeat run.

"The biggest decision for me is whether my father runs or not," the younger Paul told reporters Thursday.

Nonetheless, Rand Paul said it sounded "pretty reasonable" that one of the politically prominent Pauls would be in play.

"I think there will be one on the ballot," Paul told reporters after speaking to a Rotary club gathering in Louisville. "I think there's a good chance of that."

Pinch runner?

I think it might be someone from their extended family ie. nephew or uncle ...perhaps it is someone well known like a professional athlete or businessperson etc. and they are keeping him warming up until RP makes the signal lol

I'm actually more concerned about how he's going to defeat

the Greenhouse Gas EPA proposal for the coal industry in Kentucky, before his 2012 Presidential run. That was pretty much what he got elected on. Either make some real victories and headway for mining in Kentucky, or put it off for 2016.

Guy has only been in Senate office now for less than 6 months.

What is the latest Presidential entry announcement that Rand can make? I guess this depends on the timeline for the Exploratory Committee.

He needs to make real anti-Greenhouse Gas headway and fast, before he can be serious about a Prez run. And even given that I am skeptical of the resources he can shift to a sudden Presidential run.

Ron should run next run instead if he is able.

I think Rand as prez

I think Rand as prez can do much more for the coal industry in Kentucky and for people of Kentucky.

I think Rand will have a

I think Rand will have a better chance of winning also. He's young and new to the game. A fresh face that gained a lot of popularity during his bid for his senate seat. I feel that he could take an obama approach to his campaign by getting a lot of young people fired up. He needs to connect with young people that blindly think they're liberal just because its fashionable. I think that most young people will agree with most all his views if he were to make them known and were to get more media attention. In my opinion Rand is a better speaker then Ron. Although I love Ron's wisdom that hes gained from experience.

It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.

If Rand runs for president,

If Rand runs for president, Ron will run for the Senate of Texas.

I do think that Rand has a better chance of winning but I'd still prefer it if Ron ran just to have him in the debates.
