This is NOT Breaking news
I hate to break it to you guys, but...
These dudes stepped in radioactive water 2 days ago.
Perhaps, it's just now being reported here on our networks, but in Japan this is old already. Definitely not breaking news as of 3/26 when this message was posted.
What they think the water came from is a leaky pipe, or leaky valves, not a cracked core....yet.
My old lady is Japanese, so I am lucky enough to get the inside scoop on Japan breaking news before our news idiots report on it 2 day late.
Respectfully.

I did notice that NHK English
I did notice that NHK English was no longer broadcasting information about the reactor this morning. That is a troubling development.
UPDATE: NHK is broadcasting stories from the last couple of days and they are updating the use of fresh water being pumped into the reactor now.
Frankly, TEPCO management should be arrested and the site should be turned over to any company that has successfully dealt with such an emergency before.

Please watch the link posted for meteorological info for the Missouri area. The man with that site is in St Louis.
PS a number of monitors in the PNW have been pulled offline or shut down. Hmmmmm.
UPDATED with new monitoring site
I have posted new monitoring information in the original post.
Use it to make your own decisions about whether you will spend time outdoors over the weekend and forward.

STAND WITH RAND 2016
A Herald of Collapse?
Just as Chernobyl preceeded and contributed to the end of the Soviet Union a few years later, will this nuclear disaster announce or cause serious financial, economic, political and even social collapse in Japan?
Japan is not the USSR
The economic disruption will not be contained in Japan.
The Japanese will get busy fixing their broken windows. The Japanese government has lots of US bonds with which to pay the glaziers. The repair work will re-direct capital away from new wealth-creation and trade world-wide, not just in Japan. Consumers and businesses outside Japan will be poorer for it. Supply lines for companies that use Japanese parts are disrupted already.

Is there going to be any reliable information on the amont
of Plutonium material released into environment? From what I'm hearing, that is 1000s of times worse than uranium material. I've heard there is very little chance of significant Plutonium or Uranium material being airborne, but that the seawater content is sky-high already.
I've also heard that if significant Plutonium material is released, even by water, that all of northern Japan is going to be uninhabitable.
But what's scare-mongering and what's real? What are the chances that accurate and truthful information on material releases will be given?
Right: "reliable information" is what is lacking.
Searches reveal nothing about actual plutonium released. The Japanese are only talking about "radiative substances" being detected....nothing more specific that, with exception of I-131.
I agree with your comment 100%
We get no truth in any of our media so we have no clue if all is okay or if the world is coming to an end. Just like the BP Oil spill. I am surprised we don't have some DP Nuclear Experts on here trying to calm everyone. I for one am staying away from Seafood or any other product that originates in Japan. In my opinion....these people are F'd! Forever. I don't like to be a fear monger, but if the radiation is being picked up here in Portland and in Colorado, even in minute amounts, can you imagine what it is like in Japan. Like I said...they are screwed, and I think the government is just trying to play it down because they don't have anywhere for all of these people to go. If I lived anywhere near that plant, or even in Northern Japan for that matter, I would of abandoned my home and started over somewhere else. Just me.
Be careful
of what you believe according to the media.
