Tucker Carlson on Ron Paul in the New Republic

At the end of this article, it explains what Tucker Carlson was doing with the hookers at Dr. Paul's press conference a while back - if you believe it. This is a great article about Ron Paul. Funny. Touching. Amusing. Well written.

But one thing about his story doesn't make sense - couldn't Tucker have just taken a cab?

Pimp My Ride | The New Republic
by Tucker Carlson

The first thing I learned from driving around Nevada with Ron Paul for a couple of days: People really hate the Federal Reserve. This became clear midway through a speech Paul was giving to a group of Republicans at a community center in Pahrump, a dusty town about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. Pahrump is known for its legal brothels (Heidi Fleiss lives there), but most of the people in the audience looked more like ranchers than swingers. They stood five deep at the back of the room and listened politely as the candidate spoke.

Until Paul got to the part about the Fed. "We need a much better monetary system," he said, a system based on "sound money, money that's backed by something." Paul, who is small and delicate and has a high voice, spoke in a near monotone, making no effort to excite the audience. They cheered anyway. Then he said this: "The Constitution gives no authority for a central bank." The crowd went wild, or as wild as a group of sober Republicans can on a Monday night. They hooted and yelled and stomped their feet. Paul stopped speaking for a moment, his words drowned out. Then he continued on about monetary policy.

Wow, I thought. The constitutionality of a central bank is not an issue you see on many lists of voter concerns. (How many pollsters would think to ask about it? How many voters would understand the question?) Yet a room full of non-economists had just responded feverishly when Paul brought it up. Hoping for some context, I went outside and found a Paul staffer. He didn't sound surprised when I told him about the speech. "It's our biggest applause line," he said.

Tucker is a libertine, not a libertarian!

My impression when reading the article was that Tucker either pulled an all-nighter at the Bunny Ranch or woke up at his hotel alongside these hookers. How else do you explain how he knows these people well enough to invite them to a political function where the media is present. Doesn't he have the good sense to be discrete about his lascivious activities? The spot light should have been on Tucker and his relationship with hookers, not Paul who had nothing to do with these people.

I added this comment at the end of the article

Funny the different takes on this article from Paul supporters. I think Tucker was skating on the edge of propriety with his driving up with Hof and the hookers, but hell, if we can't have a little fun during the election cycle, things would get awful bleak, wouldn't they? And if Paul or his campaign staff couldn't deal with it some way or another, then he wouldn't be much of a president, would he? Fact is things did work out, and despite the efforts to spin this event I think it turned into a big plus for the campaign. Bottom line: thank you Tucker! Great article! Very nice how you made us able to empathise with these "outside the ordinary" people at the end too.

BTW if Air Force Amy wants to have her picture taken with a Ron Paul supporter, I will be happy to volunteer. :-)

From Watering Eyes to Laughing Out Loud

Paul grinned. "Maybe they're spiked with marijuana," he said. (((BELLY LAUGH OUT LOAD)))

All that silver......

The part about Dr. Paul commenting about the day when slot machines used real silver coins and daydreaming about that.....both my husband and I were laughing hysterically.
I can totally see it. The part about Dr. Paul offering Tucker some baked goods as they sat in the minivan together...and halfway through eating Dr.Paul explains that they are from a supporter, and Tucker stops chewing......lol..rofl....
I totally love Ron Paul.
He is PURE.

Go Ron Paul!

Jesus is the saviour of the WHOLE WORLD, "As in Adam all die, so too in Christ ALL shall be made alive." (ICor.15:22) All means all. The pagan 'hell' of literal fire & eternal torment is a lie and is SPIRITUAL TERRORISM. http://www.hopebeyondhell.net/blog

Perfect Article!!!

I loved the article.

I laughed out loud 4 times (maybe more) and shared it with all of my family and friends.

People here need to realize the following if we’re to have a chance at this thing:

Dr. Paul is NOT a politician!!!

If he was a politician, then this article would be a damaging hit piece. But he’s not!

He is a genuine American who wants to return this country to its former glory.

He’s not the popular guy.
He’s not charismatic.
He’s not funny.
He’s not suave.
He’s not sexy.
Hell, he’s not even a good speaker.

He’s an awkward NERD!!!

But so am I!!! And I reckon…so are you!!!

Don’t be sensitive to this, embrace it!!!

We are real people (with all the human indignities that come with it), and WE WANT CHANGE!

I can’t imagine a better catalyst for this r3volution than a 72 year old, skinny, nerdy great-grandfather.

“Ascendance can only come from the ability to make fun of yourself”…(my own quote I just created).

You nailed it.

$4 haircut too.

h-daddy

yes...I hate to bump...but...

I think I did nail it.

More people need to read this and take it too heart!

God bless!

How can you...

NOT love that man??

I want Ron Paul to be the president of the World.

Stop taking the blue pill

I just want readers to "stop taking the blue pill" when it comes to the media.

OK, obviously some people think the Tucker article was overall positive, while others think it was overall negative. That's fine. We are all welcome to our own opinions, and it isn't a big issue.

The reason I was pointing out that it was as bad article, was not for the benefit of those who recognize the sneaky little tactics being used. It was to educate those that failed to see those negative little hits.

Most readers here do not know I was previously a professional news journalist for years, and I have studied journalism for decades both in and independently of the government schools. I know what I'm looking at when I read something like that article, and I can more easily see the hidden intents than others who haven't had the education or experience that I have.

When I see a "B.S. sandwich" and someone is about to gobble it up thinking it is a "delicious meatloaf sandwich" - I feel it is a nice thing to do to point out that they are about to be swallowing dung.

This article in question, is what looks like a tasty meatloaf sandwich, with lots of pretty and distracting garnish - but it actually has a high dung content. I just feel it is important to point that out, so you dear readers can avoid such tainted sandwiches in the future.

But hey, if you like that type of sandwich - I'm not saying you can't eat it... Just please don't try to convince me (or anyone else) that it is yummy and nutritious!

Again, this is a minor matter. And no, it isn't going to "divide us" or anything. These forums exist for everyone to share information and express their opinion, and if you don't realize this - and especially if you think that these forums have anything at all to do with the official campaign - then you really need to re-examine the importance of what is going on here. In any open forum such as this, there will be disagreements of opinion, and that is actually a good thing, as long as we don't get carried away.

For more on the mechanics of how the media uses subtle ways to influence those inclined to keep taking the blue pill - someone just posted an informative article here on Daily Paul:
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/16199

So, as my last words on this topic:

Where the Big, Elitist MainStream Media is concerned - I encourage you to always take the RED pill. See the truth through the lies, deception and manipulation.

The Jivewire

post is total nonsense from top to bottom. Evidence for any of it? There is nothing in that post about the mechanics the media uses to influence anyone.

Red pill? Blue pill? Better to just think critically.

h-daddy

Tasty Sandwiches

Tucker's article is not a meat loaf sandwich.

This is no endorsement of Ron Paul

In continuation with his previous smear of Ron Paul, Tucker Carlson builds on the previous smear, first Strippers for Ron Paul, then prostititutes and pimps endorses Ron Paul set-up at a news conference; he continues on the same motif subject matter by emphesizing Pahrump Nevada as the place where famous brothel owner Heidi Fleiss lives, and place known for legal brothels.Im telling you, be wary of this guy, Tucker Carlson trying to negatively associate Ron with the most unsavory characters... can you catch his drift. All this reminded me of "naked women" subliminal like scrolled next to the TV image of Ron Paul - interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN. If you ask me, I know how they - the threathened establishment thinks, just like Rush Limbaugh said ( about liberals ) I know them like the back of my hand.
The objective here was to also smear and belittle the audience listening to Ron's speech about the Fed, - out of synch loonies not able to understand monitary policy, much less central bank issues.

Here's Why Nevadans Like Hard Money

It just occurred to me why the people of Pahrump were cheering about ending the Fed's fiat money and getting back to the gold and silver standard - Nevada is a major gold/silver mining state. If we went back to using gold and silver to back our currency, it would do wonders for the economy of their state!

Of course, using REAL money would be good for all of us, but this little factoid might explain why that particular audience got so excited about Ron Paul's speech.

Restore the Republic 2012!

Dr Paul is so sweet

We couldn't ask for a better man to run this country. The only one not on a powertrip. I just want to hug him! My favorite part was the one about the brownies from a supporter. I'm still laughing about that one. Thanks for sharing the article.

I liked this part!

For some people, libertarianism is the philosophical justification for a zany personal life. Paul, by contrast, describes his hobbies as gardening (roses and organic tomatoes) and "riding my bicycle." He has never had a cigarette. He doesn't swear. He limits his drinking to an occasional glass of wine and goes to church regularly. He has been married to the same woman for 50 years. Three of their five children are physicians.

Ron Paul is deeply square, and every bit as deeply committed to your right not to be. "I don't gamble, but I'm the gambler's best friend," he says, boasting of his support for online casinos. He is a Second Amendment absolutist who doesn't own a gun. "I've only fired one a couple of times in my life. I've never gotten around to killing anything." It's an impressively, charmingly principled world view, though sometimes you've got to wonder how much Paul has in common with many of the people who support him.

I like Tucker

He has a tongue in cheek humorous air about him, although his heart is in the right place. He will vote for Ron Paul; he said so. He also needs to maintain his objectivity about other candidates, and be real about criticism of Ron Paul when it is fair. It was not long ago that I snapped out of it and realized the war is a sham. Everyone has that moment when they realized they've been had. You can't force it on people. We all have an issue or two, that we are not fully on board with. It's ok. Tucker and Jack Cafferty and John Stossel are allies. We need to realize it and back them up.

Ron Paul 2012

Be wary of Tucker he is establishment personnel

Was it not Tucker Carlson who set up Ron Paul for the prostitute and pimps endorse Ron - smear. You have to be wary of him.

I'm not crazy about Tucker

I'm not crazy about Tucker Carlson but its good that Ron Paul has somebody from the media support.

www.wakeuplate.com

Fantastic Article: It would have sold me

I like Tucker and showing up with the prostitutes is something that Jesus would have done himself. It won't hurt in the Bible Belt that this happened.

I loved this paragraph:

"Ron Paul is deeply square, and every bit as deeply committed to your right not to be. "I don't gamble, but I'm the gambler's best friend," he says, boasting of his support for online casinos. He is a Second Amendment absolutist who doesn't own a gun. "I've only fired one a couple of times in my life. I've never gotten around to killing anything."

So we are not going to see Ron Paul go duck hunting like John Kerry did.

Damning With Faint Praise

Tucker damns Ron Paul with faint praise.

He brands us all as loonies coming from every fringe interest, from pot to 9/11 (lefties, geeks, tax resistors, and other name-calling).

He remains non-committal about the money issue, pretending to be swayed by the popularity of the idea, even invoking the name of Patty Hearst (!) while pretending not to know the fundamental issue.

Then he pretends the hooker thing was an accident brought on by a power outage. When you read his account, it is clear that he pulled a fast one on the campaign, despite their obvious attempts not to let him brand them with this issue. He could have taken a cab.

Damning with faint praise is a sophisticated tactic meant to marginalize someone. But it's a very old tactic. And it's transparent, too.

If the article is meant for wide distribution, it is meant to relegate the campaign to the sidelines. The syrupy coating is only there to make you gag on the freedom message.

It's a hit piece, pure and simple. It ridicules the principles that guide Dr. Paul, and follows on the heels of a 'journalist' causing an incident to make unfavorable news.

I'd say more, but I want to keep it civil.

--97T--

You are right!

You are correct on your observations

Dude

lighten up. It's funny. :) He's defenitely on our side.

Yes, please lighten up

Did everyone not read the very last line of the article???

Tucker has supported Dr. Paul since he ran in 88'.

I heard Tucker on Bill Maher say that most people would not vote for Dr. Paul if they really knew what he really stood for. He is right you know.
Most Americans want the goverment to take care of them from cradle to grave, and bail them out of their bad mortgages... give them welfare checks at the end of each month...etc.

We need self-reliant people in this country.

Another note: I just saw a clip on CBS evening news with Katie Couric. The ran a piece on Dr. Paul saying that he cannot be ignored anymore, and that he is currently 9% in New Hampshire. I believe that number is actually much higher. Also, they interviewed a few folks on the street and inside a few shops.....Guess what, they all knew RON PAUL.

OK, I'll say it nicely, then

Some people, you don't need their help.

Like when Tucker said Ron Paul would be killed before he could be president.

If the guy isn't trying actively to sabotage the campaign, then he is a loose cannon. A supposedly literate guy, long-time libertarian that doesn't know about the money issue? Who might be swayed to it by popularity like Patty Hearst?

Come on .....

I'm not a big fan of

I'm not a big fan of Tucker...well not a fan at all but this was a funny and insightful look at Ron Paul. A couple of lines that would give one pause that I didn't like. The one about a 3 minute conversation about the lights and comment about not liking to tell people what to do. I don't think that's exactly true. I remember in one video I watched on YouTube where Dr. Paul was very much the director of what was happening and what was next when talking to his manager. Maybe lights aren't a real concern or worth directing people about..were as his campaign is.

Great!

I like Tucker.....

I could totally picture Ron doing this.

"The staff wanted to know whether Paul preferred the lights on or off. Not wanting to be bossy, Paul wouldn't say. Ultimately, the staff had to guess. It was a long three minutes."

Nice

I've gone from slight dislike/indifference to being in love with Tucker. His show is always a good watch, and now that he's finally come off the fence, it's even more enjoyable watching him as a Paulite. Also, I'm a complete english nerd and that article was very well written.

"People should not be afraid of their governments; governments should be afraid of their people." - V for Vendetta

Heh!

Well he must mean it when he says it because did you see that photo of him with the dead deer that our campaign manager's WIFE had just bagged? LOL

This was the cutest story. I wanted to tell Tucker, re: the central bank issue, YES, we are most certainly more sophisticated than other candidates' supporters....

Good article

The description of Paul as a very square guy who is happy to let other people freak out is right on target. I'm about as square as they come (since I'm a computer programmer I don't get called square -- I get called a nerd). I don't drink or do drugs, or own a gun. I listen to Bach rather than heavy metal or acid house. But like Paul I have no desire to take other people's guns away, or tell them they can't smoke pot or trip out on 'shrooms. Nor do I feel any safer when some cop busts a body builder for doing 'roids. And like him, I think the only thing stranger than backing money by one rather arbitrarily chosen element of the periodic table is not backing money by anything at all. I'm a conservative, but a "limited government, take responsibility for your own actions" conservative, not a "tell you how to live" conservative. And most of all I don't think we should be sending armed men overseas to tell the people of other nations how to live.

interesting post, but...

It's not *too* arbitrary...Gold almost chose itself (possibly in combination with the oldest profession) by being so relatively-rare & so different in color & character from the other metals. And

Pd Ag
Pt Au

is how palladium, silver, platinum, and gold appear on the periodic table. The money-metals are all next-door neighbors. Accident? Maybe. But I sure don't think so. I DO think it's beautiful, though. :) Folks, buy "junk" silver US coins and hide them.

loved it

I loved this article. I also laughted while reading it. Fantastic. Sceptics and choose not to believe in Tucker, but regardless, this was one very well written piece. It was moving, and provided an excellent insight to the person behind the name.

Awesome Article

I laughed out loud at the part where Paul says the brownies might have weed in them. Very humanizing article.

interesting story from Tucker... my take on it is:

He should choose his company more carefully. The awkward situation would never have developed had he not been friends with a brothel owner in the first place.

Why _is_ he friends with a brothel owner, anyway?

Hrm...

That was a very interesting article. Talked a lot about monetary policy, described the "unique" supporters, and had a little story about 2 hookers and a Pimp at a Ron Paul press conference.

It didn't have a lot about his platform, and it didn't really "smear" him, it was just a - funny story :). I liked it, some might not, but it's pretty funny and something different. Very personal, too!

This is a negative article folks. It's a HIT Piece!

If you read the article carefully, and from the perspective of someone unfamiliar with Ron Paul, it is a deliberate Hit Peice.   A very not-so-subtle, negative attempt to portray Ron Paul as a complete raving lunatic, and one who is supported only by lunatic, nutty people.

Even the accompanying photograph shows Ron Paul just sitting all alone, by himself, in an empty room, as if to create a completely dishonest impression that Ron Paul has no "real" support   (just a few crazies).

All throughout the article there are little jokes, and mocking characterizations about Ron Paul's positions as being goofy or nuttty. Tucker Carlson just does not say it in those type of strident words, but the portrayal is completely that way   (unless you already come in to the article knowing much more about Ron Paul then Carlson to begin with, and can independently see through the fog of his endlessly mocking commentary).

Finally, just what reason in the world would Tucker Carlson have to go seek out a brothel owner and prostitutes and then bring them (under his own press pass access) over to a Ron Paul rally -- except to try and embarrass Ron Paul and torpedo his Campaign? Tucker Carlson even admits to bringing around "Air Force Amy" in to get photo-ed up with Ron Paul.   Now, just what do you think the real intent of that was?   What do you think Tucker Carlson, MSNBC, his friends at FOX News and CNN, etc. all do with that photograph?

The Media would then have the amunition to portray Ron Paul as just a raving kook who is supported by just immoral pimps & prostitutes, and then broadcast that photo everywhere -- as if it were a Gary Hart/Donna whats-her-name scandal or a Gennifer Flowers thing.

Tucker Carlson was on assignment here to find a way to torpedo the Ron Paul campaign and marginalize him into obscurity. He nearly succeeded (getting as far as bring in a brothel owner & prostitutes into the rally and then generating news stories about them).

This was not a positive article at all. Tucker Carlson is not a "friend" of the Ron Paul campaign. He was a pro-Bush, pro-Neocon, pro-right-wing-propaganda hack, all during his days at "Crossfire" on CNN and since. He constantly mocks and belittles Ron Paul and his positions throughout, along with his supporters, even though he simultaneously claims to "like him" and even claims to have voted for him in 1988. I don't believe it for a minute. A real supporter would write a very different article.

And, nobody would fly out to Nevada and seek out some brothel owner & prostitutes and then invite them and bring them into the campaign rally for the purpose of getting them written about & photo-ed up, unless they were trying to knock the Ron Paul Campaign off stride (or/and hand over to the Mainstream Media the meme to destroy him).

This article was a hit piece.
Make no mistake about it.

Surely you must be joking

Except that I don't see any smiley faces or anything like that.

If you think this is a hit piece stand by when poll numbers go up. This and the Beck article are great. The only thing more that could have been done is Tucker and Beck in a Ron Paul Gold Cheerleading outfit doing chants for sound money. They are journalists and these are about as "pro" as you can objectively go.

Ask your self would it have been better to not have either written or televised? the answer is certainly no. Anyone knows there is no bad publicity and this certainly wasn't bad.

The few impossible to please people will never be satisfied. Your eternal quest for the imagined negative in a world where there is already quite enough is depressing and extremely counter productive. I would also bet this thought leads to nasty e-mails to people who do us a favor and have Dr Paul on.

The nattering nah-bobs of negativity need to give it a rest and see the 99% good in all of this.

Joe

No. How do you explain what Tucker did?

Anyone who was looking to write either a positive article, or a completely objective/infomative article about Ron Paul, would not fly out to Navada and seek out prostitutes and brothel owners and use them as fodder to write about to further advance the portrayal that all of Ron Paul supporters are nothing but crazies/outcasts/misfits.

Why would anyone do that?

Do you see any reporters seeking out people of ill-repute and then bringing them (under their press pass access) into John McCain's campaign to write about? Answer: No

In addition, the whole tone of the article is mocking in its nature, as if Ron Paul is just some wacky yet charming buffoon with absurd, off-his-rocker, political views that can only be loved by misfits and society's rejects. That is the manner in which the whole article reads. Sorry, this doesn't pass the "positive" threshold here.

Hard core Ron Paul people may like the article, because they like to see any article about him (period) that is not overtly attacking him. But the bigger point here is, imagine that you knew nothing about Ron Paul at all. Then go and read the article. Do you really think that stories about Brothel owners and whores and other crazies supporting Paul (accompanied by a photo of Paul sitting on a chair in an empty room all by himself) is going to be very persuasive to the average person-??

Of course not!

You point of view

That is how the article reads through YOUR POINT OF VIEW. You may notice that many of us saw it as positive and didn't see the need to find every imagined negative. Remeber the amount of people that see these articles will see them as positive and not dwell on all the ways to see a negative.

Dr Paul is for freedom as you may recall, some we may not even agree with but it does illustrate how big the tent is.

Joe

It is a carefully crafted "hit piece"

LibertyBaby has it right. And although I usually agree with those of you who are conned (er... convinced) that it is not intentionally negative - I have to point out that you're allowing yourself to miss the subtleties of what is being done here. Please re-read it, this time imagining yourself as a typical raised-on-TV-news American (but still able to see the journalistic tricks as they happen).

There are so many, very subtle "hits" in this article - it is exactly why I do not trust Tucker Carlson. Credit where credit is due - Tucker is a MASTER at exactly this sort of thing. It is why he is still on MSMTV. (Oh, I mean MSNBC!) With friends like Tucker, you don't need enemies.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However:

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I just want our readers to be free.

See the tricks that are being used against you. Then counter them with truth.

You have to be kidding!

He actually said he was voting for him and today he had a little love-fest over Ron's Christmas message ad. Ron is Tucker's candidate.

This article was proof positive that Ron Paul is truly interested in YOUR freedom regardless of the choices he makes for himself, and his dedication to maintaining the limited role of government.

You also get the feeling that even tho Paul would respect someone else's right to do certain things, he obviously has set a good example for his own kids, THREE OF WHICH are doctors.

I thought it was super!

No. Tucker's tactics: Feint Praise with mockery.

Let it be...

Guys, please! Grassroots efforts like the RP Revolution, once they gain enough momentum, run the danger of turning into "cult-like" followings MSM portrays us to be, along with people so blinded by the message they turn sectarian and begin attacking each other on stupid, silly issues like "Is Tucker genuine or not?". Some of us liked the article, others did not. Leave it at that. If we spend hours debating whether a journalist sincerely favors Ron Paul or not, we are taking away from time better spent on other activities to promote his campaign, or even worse, creating conflicts (one of which will eventually lead to some event the media can blitz over and smear Dr. Paul with clips of his "crazy" supporters)

And DO NOT follow up this with 100 postings to debate whether or not MSM "planted" the Tucker article to split the group & develop arguments, I would actually start believing the folks around here really DO have a few screws loose...
