Victory - Saul Concedes, but doesn't apologize - a RINO?

In short, the so called 3rd tier candidates have had their chance to make an impression and if they cannot poll beyond 1 or 2 percentage points of support, they are simply getting in the way of the real debate of how to move our party and our country forward.

First, I would simply note he doesn't follow his own rhetoric. He called for the petition on 5/16. If cutting the number of low polling candidates was important than WHY DID HE NOT MENTION THAT in his entry the next day but instead mentioned people approved of his getting Paul ejected, and not for his low poll numbers but his statements.

Ron Paul is polling at 3% in the Zogby poll, and consistently polls higher on the internet. So what his his point? If you eliminate the 1%ers, Paul is left standing with three other declared candidates (only Fred Thompson polls above him in the undeclared category). He did note the clutter, fine, but why then remove the highest polling member of the group and not someone buried in the statistical noise? It wasn't lost in the rhetoric, it was carefully buried by him.

At the same time, I haven't heard of anyone running a petition to get tax-and-spend baby killing liberals removed from the republican debates.

Again, do you want civility or not? That is what was really intolerable. The base is told to shut up and vote for RINOs who are given the full party machine support. Then when someone who is truly conservative comes along, the party machine tries to get them kicked out.

Where is Reagan's 11th commandment?

Where is the Big Tent.

Michigan is one of the worst states. I worked on the Ronna Romney campaign both times. The second time, she was clearly going to be the choice, but they found a liberal pro-abort millionaire willing to spend his money to make it tough in the primary. Then when Ronna won the primary, prominent republicans like Helen Milliken (We called RINOs "Milliken Republicans" after the liberal GOP Governor before RINO was coined) who said to "vote your conscience" if you didn't like her stand on abortion. I.e THE MICHIGAN GOP BIGWIGS SAID TO VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT INSTEAD OF A CONSERVATIVE. They at least didn't do it directly out of the party.

Saul's blog has this in a text box on the right:

Paid for by the Michigan Republican Party with regulated funds. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.

And it says all over the place it is the official Michigan Republican Party blog. If Saul wants to express personal opinions, he can do so from his own space. Most companies don't let people use their letterheads for things that they don't specifically authorize.

Fine, we should stop bothering the Michigan GOP as there is nothing else to be gained but remember

I plan on being civil, but I will throw this in their face if they ask me for any support. No more big tent, no more RINOs. If they can't hold their nose and let Ron Paul in, I say throw the RINOs out of the party, and don't give any support until they do.

There is no reason to support the party - it stands for nothing but self-perpetuation. Maybe it will change, but not by giving it help.

When a stranger calls for someone to be ousted...

(ringing phone)
"Mr Anuzis - This is the police - We've traced the calls. They're coming from inside the big tent!".
(screechy scary violin music)

And Slate has coverage:

Although as long as Saul and Rudy are in the GOP I will want them both ejected, we all owe a debt of gratitude to Rudy for exposing Ron Paul as the uncorrupt foreign policy expert of the group. And Saul for fanning the flames.

Paul said he was suprised people contribute in the middle of the night as his website got lots of traffic after the debate, many with contributions.

I hope they go at it more in the next debate. Will Paul have a copy of the 9/11 report - is there an ebook or PDA version he can slip into his pocket and offer to let Rudy borrow it and give him a Mises bookstore gift certificate. Will Paul note the age problem but say he won't attack Rudy's youth and inexperience (I forget the exact Reagan line).

It will be a few weeks, so it could either fade or snowball. But I think Paul has gotten more coverage than even some of the "top tier" candidates.

Anyone know what the sunday chit-chat shows are planning?

Ron Paul was right on Iraq

Ron Paul was right on Iraq

It was the decisive moment of the South Carolina debate.

Hearing Rep. Ron Paul recite the reasons for Arab and Islamic resentment of the United States, including 10 years of bombing and sanctions that brought death to thousands of Iraqis after the Gulf War, Rudy Giuliani broke format and exploded:

"That's really an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of 9/11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq. I don't think I have ever heard that before, and I have heard some pretty absurd explanations for Sept. 11."

The applause for Rudy's rebuke was thunderous -- the sound bite of the night and best moment of Rudy's campaign.

After the debate, on Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes," came one of those delicious moments on live television. As Michael Steele, GOP spokesman, was saying that Paul should probably be cut out of future debates, the running tally of votes by Fox News viewers was showing Ron Paul, with 30 percent, the winner of the debate.

When Ron Paul said the 9/11 killers were "over here because we are over there," he was not excusing the mass murderers of 3,000 Americans. He was explaining the roots of hatred out of which the suicide-killers came.

Lest we forget, Osama bin Laden was among the mujahideen whom we, in the Reagan decade, were aiding when they were fighting to expel the Red Army from Afghanistan.

Bill Maher on Ron Paul...

Just wanted to let you know that Bill Maher really helped Ron Paul today saying Ron Paul was his "New Hero" and the only guy that made sense in the debates. He also said he would have Ron Paul back in his show. That would be great for Paul finally to get something in the mainstream media.

Yeah, they support RP just like they supported Prop 2 which killed affirmative action. Bottomline, when it comes to real conservative issues, they melt like fudgesickles on Georgia pavement in the summer. It took the State LP to get the word out to kill (or in this case pass) Prop 2. I mean, is there anything conservative about the GOP in general anywhere? They need to stop letting the national controlled neocon-fest control what the rest of the affilliates are doing. I've done been had it. There's a reason the LP and the CP exist: because the grassrooters have no-where else to turn, unless they want the elite to run the show from GOP hq. We won't be fooled this time. Let every candidate south of the pres primary know that they won't recieve the RP votes unless they sign the American Freedom Agenda like he did. No exceptions, no excuses. Either the liberty lantern is re-lit now, or is gone forever. It's do or die folks. We either 'hang together or we'll most definately hang seperately.'

Fire Saul Anuzius

I live in Michigan but don't know much about party mechanics.

Can you suggest where to write to call for Anuzius' firing?

Any of the 2nd tier contacts for the migop

The feedback form on the website - if it ever comes back up - can go to people other than the chairman.

The oakland county republicans including L Brooks Patterson (the executive) might be good, as well as other county leaders.

Or phone or fax or mail - for a few dimes you can send a letter that they would have trouble ignoring (send it to the vice chairman, secretary or someone else).

Also the major office holders like the house and senate senate republican leader and secretary of state (do NOT use the secretary of state business line for politics, but you can for the legislature).

Also, letters to the detroitnews (detnews.com) or free press (freep.com).

I would point out the latest Zogby poll has Ron Paul above 2%, and if Anuzis is serious about thinning the field, why doesn't he list the others by name? And as I pointed out, his first followup was about Ron Paul, not the 6 others polling below him.

Apparently James Dobson (see Lew Rockwell's blog for a link) has said he will never vote for Giuliani. Which again brings it up - if Saul won't retract and apologize , then lets start petitions to eject RINOs from the herd - by name. Somewhere I heard Anuzis got 14 signatures. I wonder how many signatures a ban Giuliani petition would get, after all, we should thin the field, shouldn't we, eliminate candidates with un-republican opinions. If he makes no apologies, then he approves of the tactic, so lets use it. And when they ask why we aren't big-tenters, and attacking a republican, just say MI GOP Chair Saul Anuzis seems to think there isn't a problem with it, so if he is a member in good standing, so should we be. And archive and print out the specific blog entries since they might disappear.

RE: Tit for Tat

My thoughts were the same, especially when I read Proverbs 19:5 today:
"A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. "

Saul will be a guest on 580 WTCM in Traverse City, MI on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. - I'll be standing by to talk with him. And one of the things I WAS going to ask him to do was resign.

Then, I read a bit further in Proverbs 19:11, and came across this:
"The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression."

This made me realize that Ron Paul (and ALL his faithful supporters) don't have to be like ALL THE OTHER POLITICIANS! Yes, Ron is running on the Republican ticket, because that's historically the right party (based on the old GOP ideologies). But bigger...in fact much bigger, is that Ron Paul is running as an AMERICAN! I don't care what political affiliation you brand yourself as, Ron Paul has what it takes to get our country headed down an "American" path.

So, PLEASE, to preserve the integrity of Congressman Paul, and to set this candidacy apart from any in history, let's treat others with respect, even though their actions are dishonorable, under-handed, and cowardly.

The internet, this election, will be a major part of Truth winning out over political rhetoric. Ron Paul is the only man who is capable of 'delivering' America!

Thanks for the great info!

For me, calling WTCM at 231-947-0023, at 11:00 am Monday, is a local call. The show host name is Norm Jones. (He sometimes calls himself a libertarian)
I plan on asking Anunzis about the neo-cons, the Iraq War and Ron Paul. The Michigan GOP needs a real proctological exam.

Justice and forgiveness aren't mutually exclusive

Saul tried to get Paul out of the debates.

Now he says it was just the field is too large.

Fine. Ask him if now that Paul is polling 3%, does he still want to eliminate the 1%ers?

And the controversial candidates? Ought we not eject the ultraliberal Rudy? If petitioning is legitimate, ask if it can be started to dump RINOs.

I'll Borrow a Rush Comment, "Ditto"

An excellent article and I support every comment and suggestion you made.
It is time we quit supporting a party that will not support our candidate.
If the party leaders "hold their noses" and allow true conservatives to be heard, then we will "hold our noses" and work within the Party, but if our candidate is booted out unjustly, then Good by GOP, and without the conservative base, there is no real Republican Party and I think they know it. We have just got to demand the respect we (and our candidate) deserve. No more Rodney Dangerfield's among the true conservatives!
