Coop finally gave Dr. Paul some time to talk! It only took about 4 years since the debate where Coop promised it to him.

And, yes, Dr. Paul looks great...I do think they have some good lighting this time. I've commented several times that they really ought to have a staff person that understands lighting with Ron Paul at all times as we head into campaign time. If it is partly the angle of the light in this video, imagine how important this is for doing interviews on the fly. Many times you have media people in a hurry who don't know what they are doing...or worse, know exactly what they are doing.

and he's has said exactly the same thing time and again.
Politico is the worst at picking out the most unflattering pics.
Andre Agassi said "Image is everything". Well it's not everything but it's certainly significant.

Well, he looked fantastic!!

Great interview!

Debbie

great to see Dr. Paul looking so energetic and vibrant

He was looking kinda old and tired for awhile - glad to see that wasn't permanent. RP2012!

we are the Remnant

I think it may...

have to do with the weather there on the hill...it may be getting warmer so Ron may be a bit more comfortable now...his hair was pretty sharp.

A joke! A joke!

The Doctor mad a joke about Trump at the end. Awesome!

He told lots of humorous things when I saw him speak live, but don't get to see how his clever wit plays towards humor on TV very often.

The best comment in this interview was

and should be placed out there every chance is when Congressman Paul said of Bernake's fear tactic.

(ad-lib) " If we don't raise the debt it will be cataclysmic and bring the depression only that he was preventing the depression for those who were ripping us off and giving the depression to the ones that are losing their homes"

The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

My thoughts exactly

What a great line. I will definitely have to use it. I thought it would be good to also add something along the lines that he was setting up about the need to go after Saddam. Basically it was these people who demanded we send our young men and women to die for their imperial agenda. We are feeding these leaches to our system. They leach the taxpayer and the down trodden.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

I saw a CNN poll last night of potential GOP candidates and...

Ron Paul WAS NOT MENTIONED.

Trump was leading.

Then the usual list of suspects followed; Palin, Gingrich, Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty and a couple of ohers I can't remember.

Yet they put Dr. Paul on their station to get his "respected" opinions.

What a bunch of hypocrites.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

It would help if Ron Paul would declare his intention to RUN

He hasn't done that yet.

Exactly my thoughts!!!!

I just saw the same CNN poll and discussion on a brief bit of "The Morning Joe". Unreal!!! I can't imagine or believe that the good Dr. doesn't even register on the poll!! They bring him on to talk about the issues we face, and even go so far as to discuss his possible run in 2012, but he's not even included on the polls.

I've got a feeling this is gonna be a long hard fight!! Be prepared folks!

Hannity

did the same thing. They weren't even discussing a poll, just potential candidates. The 'all-american' panel mentioned David Patreaus... but not one mention of the winner of CPAC straw poll, not one mention of the guy that raised the most money in Q1.

That Trump Comment was

That Trump Comment was histerical! You could tell it just kinda came out and it cracked him up so he just finished the interview giggling.

I'd still like Ron Paul to

I'd still like Ron Paul to answer my question of, if, as he claims, he would cut the military budget to 600 billion, not raise taxes, not touch social security or medicare, and assuming he cuts medicaid, unpaid unemployment, and discretionary spending 100% (he has made comments that he at least would not cut medicaid that much), he'd get about 1.1 trillion. Where is he going to find the other 400 billion to balance the budget?

ah the budget puzzel

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/13/weekinreview/d...

Of course its by the ny wipe so not a whole lot of "extreme" choices. Rand's Budget cut 500 billion and I am not sure how much defense spending was included in that.

here is an interesting blog post about regulators.
http://blog.mises.org/16464/the-cost-of-a-government-regulator/
How many regulators do you suppose RP would get rid of?

How about cutting pensions to federal employees.
Cut the department of Ag and ED...stop bailing out Fanny, Freddy, and AIG.

Heck start auctioning off federal land...

In the NY times article, they

In the NY times article, they raise the age of social security. That is an effective tax increase.

They allow the Obama tax cuts to expire.

They allow the Bush tax cuts on the richest 1% to expire.

They allow tons of other taxes to go up.

They miraculously cap the growth of Medicare in 2013. How? Magic.

I also bet that they use the CBO's rosy estimate that tax revenue, without any cuts or raises, will double in about 5-6 years.

Yea its messed up

I have tried to find better budget simulators...but they either don't exist, are only marginally better, or just rely on heavy taxation. I think the midicare cap is just another way to reduce benefits. They would cap midicare spending, then either ration care or cut payments to doctors and hospitals...talk about ugly

If you use any kind of real numbers we past the tipping point of this issue ever getting resolved in a normal matter like a year or two ago. (real interest rates, healthcare numbers, inflation and real revenue numbers).

The only way to actually fix the problem is A) cut/reform SS Medicare, end the empire as soon as possible, and raise taxes somehow some where. or B) just default and get it over with preferably not through hyper inflation.

Problem is, and I haven't verified it or not, but Rand claims the best you can do is 20% ish of GDP in tax revenue. So if that were true the only real way to increase tax revenue would be to have real economic growth. That brings me back to getting rid of the regulators.

Do you have any decent pages that breakdown the budget worth a darn that you look at?

The two links in my footer,

The two links in my footer, for one, are some examples that breakdown the budget.

Under Bill Clinton, you had higher taxes and tremendous economic growth. In the 50s and 60s you have criminally high taxes and incredible economic growth.

What is very clear, is that since you only tax profits, if you want to encourage economic growth, you do much better off fostering an economy which will increase a company's profits, than promising to tax profits less.

This makes sense from a logical perspective. If you tax people less, they have more money to invest. But if investment opportunities are poor, no matter how much DI someone has, they won't invest. And even if you tax someone at 70 or 80%, if there are investments that are "slam-dunk", money will flow.

He cut military spending by

He cut military spending by about 60 billion IIRC in that plan.

What annoyed me about that plan, was that he cuts food stamps about 40%, but cuts farm subsidies about 10%. Farm subsidies go heavily to Kentucky; a big reason he would not want to cut them.

I also don't like it when he says; well, I cut military spending by 60 billion, so lets cut every social program by 60 billion. The contention by the left that there is a lot more waste in the military is absolutely correct.

I wish people would read what

I wish people would read what I wrote (or typed):

Cutting all of federal pensions would save you about about 1.5 trillion over ten years.

Auctioning off federal property would get you about 1-2 trillion as a one-time deal. That is assuming a fair rate of return, which is unlikely.

"Cut the department of Ag and ED...stop bailing out Fanny, Freddy, and AIG."

That is all there in the complete cut of all discretionary funding.

In two interviews (one on

In two interviews (one on MSNBC, other on CNN IIRC) he said he would cut military spending by about 300 billion and by 1/3rd (which is roughly 300 billion).

I think he makes the assumption that doing more than that would be politically impossible, both logistically (cutting the military in a short period of time is difficult) and pure politically (MIC).

Well...

Dr. Paul has never put forth a serious, planned, and categorized budget cut proposal. In the two interviews you are referring to he was throwing out relative numbers as a reference. In both cases, he was responding to questions asked of him. He was not proposing any legislation. Dr. Paul was speaking philosophically about how to get us out of this mess.

No offense intended, but you sound like an interviewer trying to plant a "got ya" on Dr. Paul.

NOTE: I am not advocating violence in any way. The content of the post is for intellectual, theoretical, and philosophical discussion. FEDS, please don't come to my house.

The TYT interview was very

The TYT interview was very fair. The interviewer asked him "do you think we should also include cuts to the military?" RP answered absolutely, we can cut about 300 billion from our so-called defense spending. Unprompted.

Also, asking him how he would reduce a 1.5 trillion dollar budget is a very fair question. Why hasn't he come up with a proposal, like Rand Paul has? The numbers also don't match up with his rhetoric. He gets a lot of people on his side saying he can balance the budget without touching Social Security, Medicare, tax rates, and without making severe cuts to other entitlements like Medicaid. He has never proposed ending all discretionary spending...yet even if he cut all other entitlements, and cut all of Medicaid, and cut the military by 300 billion, he'd still face a decent budget shortfall.

He needs to "cave" somewhere. Either say he'd cut SS, say he'd raise taxes, or say he'd cut military spending even more.

Cut spending on wasteful programs and departments.

Departments of Energy and Education to start.

I wish people would read what I wrote:

Both DOE and DOA are in discretionary spending, which as I said I said is cut completely.
