Ron Paul opens new 'testing the waters' account in preparation for Presidential exploratory committee

"Ron Paul quietly took another step toward a presidential run recently, creating a so-called “testing the waters” account that allows him to start raising money toward a White House bid and could eventually become his official campaign account, a Paul aide confirmed to POLITICO.

The Texas congressman is expected to announce whether he will again run for the Republican nomination sometime early next month — and recent moves are the strongest signs yet that the libertarian icon will indeed launch another bid. Jesse Benton, director of Paul’s LibertyPAC, told POLITICO that the new account was opened in anticipation of creating a formal presidential committee. The small step toward a bid is the same kind taken recently by Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, but it stops short of an official exploratory committee filed with the FEC."

One step closer! But...

We must realize that Dr. Paul is up against something no other potential presidential candidate in 2012 (at least on the horizon now) has to deal with: his age and his wife's health.

His wife nearly died in 2008 and I'm sure he is watching out for her well-being very closely this time around.

So timing is very important as to his decision.

Although he appears to be sharp and in good health, he would be 77 when he takes office if he were to win the presidency.

I hope with all my heart he runs, but I know the stress it will place on him and his family and I will truly respect any decison he makes.

About all we can do for now is pray for his great health and for the inspiration to make the best decision for him and his wife - and contribute to his PAC.

While WE know his decision to run would absolutely be the best decision for this country, sadly most of the people are simply too uninformed or misguided to realize this.

But what a fun ride it will be and another great chance for him to be involved in the discussion.

And who knows, there is always that chance you might actually win as Dr. Paul says.

I am not crazy about the date, either the 19th or the 20th for obvious or not so obvious reasons.

I concede that the 19th has some merit being the shot heard round the world date. There are plenty of drawbacks for both dates as well.

I prefer April 22. On this date the father of the American Navy, Captain John Paul leads raid on England. Most people know him as John Paul Jones because of his famous "I have not yet begun to fight" quote as it appeared his beleaguered ship would sink. He of course turned the battle back and in fact captured his British adversary.

What say you all.

And I would expect his numbers to be very similar to last election. It does not matter how many times he's right on economic issues because people vote based on self-interest and people typically cannot synthesize and personalize economic issues due to their amorphousness.

IF all comes to pass as it has been foretold, I guarantee other candidates will attempt to spin their positions as logical answers to the reality at the time. It never fails.

I agree with you. I think he might win a few more votes, but it probably won't be enough. I think Rand has a much better chance. If Rand runs and loses this election, he will be a front runner in the next when the country is really desperate. Ron will probably not try again in 2016, so it is best to let Rand educate the public this election and become the front runner in 2016 as Rand's name recognition will be high.
