Texas Straw Poll - Aug 31-Sep 1

Clayton writes:

The Texas Straw Poll is August 31 and September 1 in Fort Worth. We need people to show up here. The voting rules are very strict so most people who come will not be able to vote, but what we can do is make a huge (and polite) showing for Ron Paul outside.

Details here at the Texas GOP page.

I'm wondering if you could mention the 'Adopt A Texan' fund I've
organized. I'll be using the fund to purchase Texas Straw Poll tickets
for eligible voters (GOP delegates) who would otherwise decline to go
vote for Dr. Paul due to the expense.

Why are we paying for votes?

At the risk of sounding like a "nattering nabob of negativism", I feel the need to chime in on a practice that some Paul supporters have adopted during this campaign. That is the practice of paying for the tickets of "supposed" Ron Paul supporters to vote in straw polls. I put "supposed" in quotes because I have to question the commitment of any supporter who takes from the Paul campaign fund, rather than gives. Do we even have any assurance that this voter, after receiving this handout, will actually vote for Paul?

Most Paul supporters I know of are looking for any way possible to GIVE to the campaign, whether in time or money or both. Even if we are certain the voter is a Paul supporter, is this a smart way to be spending our money? I mean spending $75 to get ONE vote in a STRAW poll seems like money not very wisely spent. And even more depressing, that one vote might be for a dishonest Rudy McRomney supporter for all we know.

I don't mean to disparage anyone who is doing whatever they can to help Dr. Paul out, but our campaign will never have the funding of the bought and paid for media darling stooges mentioned above. I think it is imperative that we spend it as wisely as possible. Why not spend it on local TV commercials or full page newspaper ads like we did in Iowa? Am I wrong here?

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

Attended the The Ron Paul

Attended the The Ron Paul Pride of Texas Freedom Rally
with music by Jimmie Vaughan and the Horton Brothers Band in Ft. Worth last night, Standing room only 500-600 people, The third rifle was auctioned (one was auctioned in San Antonio one in Texas City) and went for $8000, the most yet.. Inspiring speech by Dr. Paul, standing ovations. Great music by the two bands. A great time was had by all. I left more inspired than ever. Hope the straw poll tomorrow goes well.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs.

Good Press in the Fort Worth Star Telegram

The article doesn't deal with political issues, but Ron Paul supporters are making their presence known:

What can I do

Well all day on Friday will be making sure we have signs everywhere. We are also going to have people passing out invitations to the Jimmy Vaughan Concert with Ron Paul speaking. We also want sign waving at every entrance.

Friday Night, the place to be is going to be the Jimmy Vaughan concert rally. Dr. Paul will be speaking sometime between 8;30 and 9;30. Free Food and Cash Bar. $25 for non delegates, under 6 for free, school ID gets you in for $10 + a free Ron Paul shirts while supplies last. (there will be T-shirts for sale for others)

Saturday morning. Sometime around 8;30, Ron and company will take a walk from the Worthington to the Convention Center. You are encouraged to be a part of the parade of support. Before he enters the convention center, Dr. Paul should give a quick speech to all the supporters.

Anyone who is a Delegate or is able to get in with a guest pass is asked to be there for Ron's speech to the delegates. I am sure we will stick around and wait for the final votes (when it is announced that Ron Paul wins.)

A STRONG SHOW OF SUPPORT IS VERY IMPORTANT. This comes from current Republican Delegates who say a strong showing WILL sway some delegates that want to see support.

We have worked very hard in Texas to get all our people inside. Please show up to show us it was all worth it.

Free rides to straw poll

FYI, some of the Texas Ron Paul meetups have chartered buses to the straw poll- the San Antonio bus still has room available- go to:

Fox News interview

We were interviewed by Fox News cable regarding using the internet to help political campaigns. It will be aired Friday but we do not know the time yet or how long the story is. They got 45 minutes of video from us, though, so it may be long. Everything we said was very positive so I don't think they can edit it to be bad. It should probably be a positive piece.

The focus was what we were doing on the internet for straw poll turn out.

Woot!

Everyone keep an eye out for this interview!

New Rules?

Is this rule new? If so it should be challenged as publicly as possible. If Ron Paul is making people active in the GOP who weren't active before, that should count in the straw poll. After all, how does the party assign new delegates if they never accept people who weren't already delegates? Stupid.

It is their first straw poll

It is their first straw poll and they want it to be orderly (no pie throwings and such).

It is a bummer, but we still need everyone to come out and make this a huge event. We want Ron Paul to be the elephant in the room!

We have now scheduled a parade for Saturday. Motorcycles, Granny warriors, trucks, people walking, bull horns, candy, flyers, signs. Going to be great!

Everyone come out and support Ron Paul! We want to have more people there supporting Ron Paul than EVERYONE ELSE COMBINED even if you can't vote! We need to show that he is the only grass roots candidate and this is not just the internet!

Concert Friday! Rallies and parades Saturday!! If you bring $25 we might be able to get you inside. We have many delegates and they can each get 2 guests in. If we have any free guest slots available we can get you inside, otherwise you can just party with 1000+ other Ron Paul supporters outside!
