What could be the most damaging question Tim Russert can ask Ron Paul on Meet the Press?

Why isn't the question, "What do you think would be the most valuable (informative, cutting edge, timely, relavent, republican, democratic, worldly, difficult) question etc.....

This question is just trash. But I'll definitely admit this is the way the press goes after their interviews. We'll ask some pertinent questions, then we'll slap him with the zingers. It repulses me. Every time. This is repulsive.

HOT NEWS
-Do you think Mike Huckabee is a fascist? Do you think he is using his religion to avoid criticism or gain favor? Do you think Mitt Romney's speech was a good idea?
-Were you surprised that you didn't receive Tom Tancredo's endorsement?

RACISM AND FRINGE SUPPORT
-Why did you accept donations from avowed white supremacists?
-Why did you take photographs with them (shows photograph)?
-Why did your newsletter contain these racist comments?
-Did you write them? If not, why did you not know about them?
-If you knew, why didn't you denounce them immediately?
-Why do you associate with groups who hold these violent, racist, right-wing views?
-Even while accepting their political rights, why don't you denounce their views?
-Why do you receive so much support from them?
-You voted against giving Rosa Parks a Congressional medal of honor. Why?
-You voted against commemorating the Civil Rights act of 1964. Why?
-Do you really think we can have a politically colorblind society only 4 decades after the Civil Rights movement?
-Do you think 9/11 was an inside job?
-Do you think that JFK assassination was done with government knowledge/complicity?
-Why do you receive so much support from those who do?
-Why do you entice them by appearing on shows like Alex Jones?

LIMITED GOVERNMENT
-We don't need an FDA? An EPA? A CIA? An FBI?
-A department of education? How about firefighters and policemen?
-How are we supposed to keep our food, our environment, our homes, our streets, our country safe without these?
-We should cut MediCare?
-You don't think every person deserves health care? Even children?
-What about social security?
-What about people who are dependent on it? Don't we want a safety net in our society?
-Isn't it unfair to abolish government programs when those who need them most have no control over some of the factors which led to their need (slavery, racism, poverty, education, etc.)
-You'd legalize prostitution? Gambling? Marijuana? What about cocaine? Bestiality? Polygamy?
-Would you draw the line anywhere?
-You want to legalize all of these things—give people choice—but not the choice to have an abortion. How is that not hypocritical?

FOREIGN POLICY – NATIONAL SECURITY AND INTERVENTION
-We should stop all foreign aid and intervention?
-We should just leave Iraq?
-What about the people who will die in the chaos?
-What about destabilizing the region?
-What about the troops who risked or lost their lives for the country... we should just leave?
-How can we protect ourselves against Iran? What about it's nuclear program?
-What about protecting Israel?
-What about countries less capable to protect themselves. If they and their people are under threat we just watch?
-What about Darfur?
-Would you have gone in for World War II? (The Holocaust?)
-What about AIDS? Malaria? Hepatitis C?
-You never think there's a role for global health programs?
-Do you believe in man-made global warming?
-We don't need an EPA? We shouldn't be co-signers of Kyoto?
-How can we be world leaders if we keep to ourselves?
-Who will protect the environment if corporations can do whatever they want?
-Don't we need government to protect us from corporate tyranny?
-Do you think markets ever fail?
-If the U.S. does not stop genocides and plagues and protect the environment from destruction who will? Do we not have a moral responsibility to prevent those atrocities?

FISCAL AND DOMESTIC POLICY
-You really want to abolish the IRS? How can we do that?
-You don't think the government should fund AIDS research? Cancer research? Stem cell research? Space exploration?
-You want to go back to the gold standard?
-What should we do about immigration?
-Do you think we should build a fence?
-What should we do with the millions of immigrants already here illegally?
-You voted for a bill protecting states from recognizing gay marriages? How can you be a libertarian and not support anyone marrying whomever he or she wants?
-Do you believe gay soldiers should be able to serve openly in our military?

ELECTABILITY AND PARTY AFFILIATION
-Do you think you can win your party's nomination?
-Would you support the republican nominee no matter what?
-Why are you running as a republican?
-Would you consider running as an independent/third-party/spoiler?
-Why are you so low in the polls?
-Do you think your governing philosophy could actually work with congress?

let me rephrase.

the most dangerous question is the one that implies the worst. the worst thing that could happen is not winning. it becomes as much a accusation as a question.

"you don't think you can win, do you?"

Maybe, boxers or briefs?

but rather one of dangerous conclusions drawn by someone like Tim Russert.

Think about it for a moment. A show like this will obviously counter Ron Paul's desire to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education with a "you oppose higher educational standards." Granted, I believe that type of counter to be fallacious, but people like Russert tend to get in the last word.

All Ron Paul has to do is stay on the offensive, and not let Russert lead the interview. Luckily for us, I think our man knows this.

Based on what we saw in Romney and Giuliani's interviews, expect for Russert to hit on the biggest "gotcha" topic he can in the first few questions. He'll start off by asking why he won't return the Don Black donation, then he'll ask why Black had his picture taken with him, then he'll bring up the newsletter article. Let's hope Ron's prepared.

RP always lands on his feet, no matter what is asked. He has integrity and essential goodness and that covers everything.

So, fascism, racism, abolishing the various departments and so forth - they are standard questions. Day at the beach for RP.

However, nobody ever asks the following of Dr. Paul:

1. Who is your favorite Beatle?
2. Coke or Pepsi?
3. Ford or Chevy?
4. Hey, how about those Mets?
5. As an M.D., has he ever said, "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning?"

Inquiring minds... need a laugh now and then.
