Detective mystery: how could Al Qaeda "verify" that Osama died?Submitted by pseudonym on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 10:45
This question has been bugging me for a while this morning.
We have been told that Al Qaeda "verified" that Osama has died. Apart from the obvious credibility problem that Al Qaeda has, are any of you perplexed about how Al Qaeda could have possibly verified this, even if they had a reputation for honesty? How can anyone except the eyewitnesses possibly know the fate of a man who was captured, killed, and disposed of all in secrecy? Think about it.
Is Al Qaeda claiming it had eyewitnesses at the scene? Maybe they had video surveillance of Osama in his room at all times to ensure his safety? Why aren't we hearing about that? Maybe they had secret security people watching the raid with binoculars and they focused on his body, which wasn't put in a body bag? Or is the Pakistani military hospital just allowing Osama's wives to talk to Al Qaeda directly?
All these possibilities are leads to an interesting story that curiously enough is NOT being explored by any major news outlets. Why not? If we are being told a big, fantastical story, there should be more demand for details that make the story at least SOUND credible.
Alternative explanations for how they could *know* are welcome. Because unless our military has been showing pictures and DNA lab results to Al Qaeda, I'm stumped.

They are saying that the "general command" is issuing statements through jihadist websites. But the video in the article, amazingly, acknowledges "The statements' authenticity could not be independently confirmed."
Yahoo news confirms that Al Qaeda's confirmation cannot be confirmed.
