Who do you think should be on the Ron Paul 2012 staff?

There's really no other way for me to directly ask it. Please don't embarrass or invade anyone's privacy by listing them here, so that would mean that if they don't come up from a Google/ startpage search, you should think twice about listing them here. Even if you send a letter to Grandfather Paul/ Uncle Rand, they still have to open it up & read it & who knows when they'll get around to it, or whether they'll even see it. Of course they look at this website, so just go ahead & openly express it, and a reason why if necessary. I don't believe the 2008 staff should be completely duplicated, and won't go into further details.

It could be you'll list somebody who hasn't been considered & nobody who is making decisions thought about or knows about.

My 1st suggestion, but not necessarily 1st choice is Rand's 1st campaign manager in KY, who became Chairman before he resigned to go work on another campaign.

I don't know how available

I don't know how available this information is...but I have heard from high-level people (we all know his name) that the campaign had celebrities who are household names call the campaign and wanted to endorse Ron Paul.

The campaign never returned those calls. I think most of the fault lies with Benton.

Whomever Ron Paul trusts to get the job done. I trust him.

I know there's a lot of powerful forces, activists and personalities out there that we'd all like to see molded into some kind of Ron Paul Dream Team, but sometimes all you really need is a humble no name staffer eager and tireless to carry out your vision. When it comes to the big name activists the egos, ideas, and personalities will sometimes clash and make for unproductive drama. I say let the big name guys do their thing spreading the message how they see fit and let the good Dr. choose who he thinks will best fit his needs.

That said this is an interesting thread and I enjoy reading the staff suggestions, I just don't think we should be pressuring Dr. Paul with them, he's got enough on his plate.

People to consider for RP2012 campaign staff

As a rule you need to pay for experience and not just hire family (RP2010 had 4 or 5 family members on staff). I'm not necessarily knocking the practice of hiring family (especially when the Paul family generally has a lot of political experience). However, we need staff that can bring in their own resources and has even more experience then the Paul family in high profile, national elections).

As Lew Rockwell suggested (http://www.lewrockwell.com/politicaltheatre/2011/04/ron-paul...): `
Ed Rollins (Huckabee's campaign manager in 2008 and so much more)
Roger Stone (media consultant and super-fixer; unabashed libertarian)

Also, in battleground states where Paul has a shot of winning we need to recruit existing talent (even if its from establishment Republican circles). Often, we are talking about legal challenges and winning precincts by less than 100 votes. We need effective, political mercenaries who are accustomed to the gritty nature of campaigning. The 2008 campaign wasted too much time and resources on ineffectual staff (which to some extent continues in C4L...for another discussion).

Yes, we all got experience from 2008 but its still no where as it should be to be hired by the campaign to be permanent staff (so forget about it if any of you are thinking about it).

One last thing, if Jesse Benton is chosen to run the national campaign I will not help Ron Paul in this election cycle because clearly there is no seriousness to win the election...it'll make the case that RP and Company are out to sell books and create another educational campaign (while paying generous salaries to family and cronies).

I will not give more than a year of my life to this effort if the campaign does not name high profile political operatives to lead important efforts like Iowa, NH and South Carolina. I suggest to my fellow DP readers to think about this too.

P.S. This is a rant. Treat it as such.

Dr. Paul needs people he can trust first

then he can worry about putting them in the right place for their talents. I'm sure there are professional people out there who are Ron Paul supporters, or perhaps he could have people he trusts trained in needed skills.

How about B.J. Thomas for something?

Who is BJ Thomas?

Never heard of him

But Lew did not write the newsletters. I thought everyone knew that by now.

As for David Boaz, surely you jest. He can't stand Ron Paul. He so can't stand him that even though criticizing him hurts the Cato Institute, he does it anyway. You should hear what he says privately about Dr. Paul! It's much worse even than his public snarkiness.

How about Jerry Day

His ability to present Ron favorably in media would raise Ron's appeal to the average voter.

Boaz is a witty guy

But when I met him, he certainly seemed full of himself.

I still ge the sense,

he would have Ron's best interest at heart.

More specifically

They need to hire staff who were directly responsible for getting a president into the White House.

need professional campaign people

He does not need a bunch of liberty people...Ron knows all about liberty. He needs to get some people who know how to win campaigns. Too many liberty people and not enough people with campaign savvy was part of the problem last time. No Neocons though!

I'm sure that Ron knows people through his network who will be good at a campaign. They just need to be selected based on merit and not on being in the family.

Don't worry, Randy Scheunemann's already booked Romney.

Don't worry, Randy Scheunemann's already booked a gig with Willard Romney. Henceforth, Romney's foreign and strategic military policy platforms begin with:

"WE'RE ALL ______* NOW!!"

* fill the blank with appropriate oppressed nationality as an excuse to go to war for their _____**

** fill the blank with appropriate natural resource as an excuse to go to war for _____***

*** fill the blank with appropriate corporate name as an excuse to go to war for _____****

**** fill the blank with appropriate campaign contribution amount as an excuse to go to war for ______*****

***** we could go on like this for-freakin'-ever******

****** pardon my tmesis*******

******* if you don't know what tmesis is, look it up. One thing's for sure: It ain't an oppressed nationality for warmongering neocons to support.

Adam Kokesh for sure
Peter Schiff
Paul Craig Roberts if he is willing
Definitely a lot of DPers, too many to list-RJ Harris would be one

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine

The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!

They are all media personalities

I think Schiff might have trouble on the stump for Paul with his daily radio show but if he can manage it then sure.

I wonder if Kokesh's contract with RT will allow him to actively campaign (but otherwise he's got a full-time job).

Isn't Paul Craig Roberts English?

RJ Harris is running for the LP nomination (he'll be busy).

Some ideas...

John Stossel
Thomas Woods
Peter Schiff
Judge Napilatino
Walter E. Williams
Lew Rockwell
John McManus
Sharron Angle
Gerald Celente
Thomas Sowell
Jesse Ventura
Chuck Baldwin
Adam Kokesh
Clint Didier
Debra Medina
G. Edward Griffin
Legalize Liberty

This would be a good start.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Good list of supporters

However, some of these names are not well-known outside of their respective states (i.e. Medina, Angle), some are media personalities who's work and livelihood would be affected working on campaigns (i.e. Napolitiano, Celente, Kokesh).

Clearly we need to have staff to begin the coordinate national efforts (define attainable goals of the campaign) and to cement efforts in Iowa, NH and South Carolina.

John Dennis definitely! Doug

John Dennis definitely!

Doug Wead could maybe work as RP's debate training shill as he was doing that for Bush senior and nowadays he is huge RP supporter. As Tom Woods wrote RP should really train his statements for future GOB debates.

"Air is the very substance of our freedom, the substance of superhuman joy....aerial joy is freedom."--Gaston Bachelard--

Debate prep team is key!

I definitely agree about John Dennis and Tom Woods being able to craft a debate and media strategy.

I'm tired of hearing that Ron Paul wants to legalize heroine.

What is the point of having free will if one cannot spit in the eye of the destiny others leave you with? #ActorofConscience

So am I.

FYI, it's "heroin", not a female hero.

Lew Rockwell is...

Lew Rockwell is still linked to the Ron Paul Newsletter smear from the 90s. He needs to stay away from any RP campaign directly. That is, if he WANTS to help RP.

We're talking CAMPAIGN staff, right?

What Ron Paul needs if he hopes to win is a top campaign professional who won't try to suppress the spontaneity of the base.

We need someone who can produce exceptional TV ads and focus-group them before airing. We need a capable pollster to determine where more resources should be focused.

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

Are you kidding me??

Not Jesse Benton.........I would hire Chet Holmes and Tony Robbins... Do you want to win??

No, the fellow before Jesse Benton,

but I don't happen to agree.

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

A couple off the top of my head.

If the 2008 staff knows more now, is stronger now, and is far better prepared this time around, I see no issues with supporting anyone that Ron is comfortable with. Although instead of being an issue of their failures, this should be an opportunity for Dr. Paul to improve.

I take some issue with hand-picking existing Senators and Reps from Washington for the sake of an election and/or potential cabinet. A lot of people are in the right place for the revolution movement. It is imperative to grow the base, not detract from it.

David Boaz is often overlooked. He has debating skills, charisma, and a good base of his own followers amongst right-libertarians.

Cedra Crenshaw a Tea Party hopeful in many ways, also has a lot of charisma, understands last minute policy changes that stifle candidates from getting on ballots, and her core values can relate to many.

I have a few

Judge Napolitano
Jack Hunter
Adam Kokesh
Jesse Ventura

I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change
Spindale-Rutherford County-North Carolina

One person that comes to mind

One person that comes to mind is Adam Kokesh, another is R.J. Harris.

Formerly rprevolutionist

Scott Garrison.

He was an instructor at Texas State. Very knowledgeable about politics, and explained the long-range military goals of the neo-cons in class. 200 people were stunned, with mouths agape after his explanation of the planned conquest in the Middle East.

His bio says he is experienced in fund raising.

Debra Medina of Texas.

Of course, Peter Schiff's advice, knowledge, and experience are invaluable.

Judge Napalitano is very valuable right where he is for now.
