Registering as a Republican? How? Also, about RP T-Shirts...

Hello, I am completely out of the political loop, until RP I've never liked a politician, I have voted on local issues in my town but that's all, so I am reading here and there that in order to help get RP the Rep nom I have to register as a Republican? Is this true in all states (I'm in Michigan) and how do I do this, also, what does it mean if I do that, am I suddenly going to get signed up for a bunch of "junk mail" from Rep hopefuls or Fox News, I want to help Ron but I am NOT a Republican, I am a Libertarian.

2nd, I like some of those T-Shirts I see but I am curious which site is the best to buy from and if any of money for the shirt purchase is donated to the campaign. Thanks in advance for any help and since this is my first post let me just say it's great to see so many people behind this man and to finally have a politician worth voting for.

Michigan "closed" Primary

Just looked at a few links and it looks like even though it is closed, you choose your affiliation at the actual site. Check to see if you are registered to vote here:

https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/

Then, once you see that you are registered to vote (which hopefully you are), you can see where you are supposed to vote and instructions. This is taken from the page where I'm supposed to vote (Van Buren Co).

"Special Information for Presidential Primary: The Presidential Primary to be held on February 28, 2012 will be conducted as a “closed” primary. The sample ballot below includes candidate information for both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. When you go to the polls on Election Day or apply for an absentee ballot, however, you must request either a Republican Party or a Democratic Party ballot which will include only the candidates of the party you select. If a special election is conducted in conjunction with the Presidential Primary, the special election information will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots. You will also have the option of selecting a ballot that excludes Presidential Primary information and includes only special election information."

So, after reading that, it looks like you will declare "Republican" when you get there and they will give you the republican ballot.

Hope that helps to my fellow Michiganders!

Don't make your decison based only on the primary

If you even think that you might want to run as a delegate for Ron Paul at the Republican National Convention you will probably need to declare your affiliation long before primary time comes around. Don't sweat the junk mail and phone calls you will get because you are going to get them from all sorts of groups anyways, and there is no requirement to talk or respond if you don't want to.

You also might search at Meetup.com for Ron Paul groups in your area. That's a good way to meet other Paul supporters and to work out activities to promote him and his message, and maybe also to help gather the required signatures for him to be on the primary ballot. In 2008 our Ron Paul Meetup here in RI gathered more signatures than any of the other candidates...if I remember correctly even in this heavily Democrat state we even outgathered Obama and Hillary.

Get involved...we're happy to have you. And don't worry...we Republicans don't bite. :)

It Depends

What state do you vote in?

In Texas, for instance, your political affiliation is usually determined by the primary you vote in. If you live in Texas, all you have to do is be registered to vote and vote in the Republican primary. They will usually stamp your voter card or give you a slip that shows you voted, so that you can go to your Precinct Convention, which happens at the polling place the night of the election. This is how you get named as a delegate to the County or Senatorial District Convention, and possibly to the State Convention. I have no idea how it works in other states (see below.)

In many other states, you need to register your party affiliation. I imagine that process varies with the state, so ask your local Republican Party County Chairman for advice. If you can't find him or her, I suppose I would look on the Web for the voter registration office in my state. It may be a county elections department or it may be in the state Secretary of State's office.

If you are a libertarian or a Libertarian, you should join the Republican Party. Ron Paul wants it to change. If the liberty lovers refuse to join, it never will.

The Party is run by a small number of people who show up to their precinct conventions and from then on up through the County and State. You want to make the Party libertarian? Join us and we will do it together.

Thank you for the reply, I

Thank you for the reply, I live in Michigan and I will do as you suggested and look online, also, as I stated although I'm a Libertarian I will gladly "sign up" as a Rep to get RP in the White House, I gave $500 to his Moneybomb on the day of the debates and I plan to donate on every Moneybomb from now on (won't always be $500, but I'll give what I can). Thank you again for the info.

RP: "My first name is Ron and my last name is Paul"

SP: "Wow, you have two first names. Nobody is going to elect 'Ricky Bobby' for President."

RP: "Do you care about anything important?"

SP:"One time I killed a moose and took a picture with it."

Welcome, and we are glad you are here...

Michigan has open primaries. That means you can either vote as a Democrat or a Republican, but not both. Here is some help...
