Summer Reading List for Paulites
Submitted by jwilli17 on Thu, 05/19/2011 - 10:55I was checking for a reading list for this Summer because I'm finding that a lot of modern day political commentaries are just talking points. I'd like to dig deeper into the philosophical roots of modern society.
I've compiled a list of some books taken from RP's suggested reading list, as well as some books I recommend to understand society, as well as books that members here have or will recommend. I've only read a handful of them.
Obviously not all of these books follow RP's philosophy, but this list is for understanding what ideas led us to where we're at. Please let me know what other books to add to the list. The lack of intellectuality in modern political commentaries led me to dig deeper. I'd love more input of what to add or remove from the list.

Federalist Papers in context
I started reading the Federalist Papers last year and halfway through it occurred to me I was missing half the argument. To understand the whole debate it's imperative to read the Anti-Federalist Papers as well, each one after or before the corresponding Federalist (Nationalist really) Paper. I know I'm very glad I did! Otherwise I might have gone my whole life without realizing I'm an "Anti-Federalist"!
Great list!
Some decent books here
But A Patriot's History of the United States is painful. Thoroughly neocon.
Yeah, it definitely has some
Yeah, it definitely has some sketchy areas, I skipped most of the 20th century. It provides some historically significant information nonetheless regarding early American history that you don't read about in normal history books.
