How do we get those Fred Thompson supporters?

0 votes

Thompson looks exhausted and disgusted every time I see him in the news- how much longer can he possibly last in this race? Does anybody have any strategy ideas for bringing his supporters into the fold? Has anybody out there seen his supporters on the campaign trail? I don't have any ideas, but I think we should be talking about this...

War is the biggest issue to getting Thompson supporters

Most Thompson supporters believe in most of what Ron Paul says, they just don't like his stance on the war. Most of this comes from not understanding the nature of warfare. They drink the party line/Sean Hannity Kool Aid of "they hate us and want to kill us so we have to keep fighting in Iraq." They don't understand terrorists can come from any nation, including our own. They don't understand that leaving the middle east like Ron Paul wants to do would dry up 95% of the terrorists new recruits and support. Then if you secure the border you eliminate the only way left for them to get into this country.

We should then hunt down Osama. Rudy McRomsonbee will just keep the status quo in Iraq. They won't try to win it, they won't leave, they will just keep it as a never ending battle. IF we had the desire to win in Iraq it would be over within a few months. But we don't have that desire. Chances are it wouldn't work anyway because we're trying to force Democracy on people who have lived in a tribal or dictatorship setting since the beginning of time. Self rule is a forign concept to them that they just simply can't understand without at least 500 more years of evolution. Until our border is secured we are just as open to terrorist attack as we were on 9/10/01.

Fred not in Delaware

He will not have voters in Delaware. Didn't have enough valid signatures on the petitions.

What about the cost of war operations to defense

I have been wondering why more is not said about the costs of the war efforts to other defense programs. While I am not trying to start another cold war, remember that Russia has recently started flying strategic bomber missions all over the world and has been developing light tactical battlefield nukes, while China has been developing anti-satellite missiles. I have seen reports that we have reduced research in various advanced defense programs mostly because of the cost of day to day operations in Iraq.

Furthermore, as I recall we just grounded our fleet of older F15A to F15D fighters which is our nations primary air superiority fighter for home defense because of structural fatigue failures on these aircraft that were never meant to be used for so long. (the newer F15E units used overseas are newer and stronger) It is expected that it could be months before most of them are back in the air.

Meanwhile, the Air Force wants 200 units of the awesome F22 that costs about 132 million each, and they are not funded at this time. If memory serves, I once read that we spend about 11 million dollars per hour for operations in Iraq. Doing the math, the cost of operations in Iraq is about 2 units per day, so in theory if we stopped that expense, we could completely fund the Air Force's desired air superiority fleet by early April with what we are spending in Iraq. Now granted if we pulled immediately out of Iraq, all that money would not be available, but a lot of it could.

Don't you think that this kind of point could be good to make to those opposed to RP's anti-war stance?

Just for Shiggles..

As of today, December 22nd, I think Fred Thompson is still poised to be a major factor. The attacks on Huckabee will raise Mike's negatives, and there will be Fred in January, performing well in debates, surprising people with decent Iowa and NH numbers and having a strong SC showing. Fred will sell in Fla and the South, then who knows. Hucks votes will fall to someone, and it won't be Romney I don't think. So as of today, I'd give Fred one chance in three to be the nominee or the Veep nom. - JP

The first 5 million supporters of Dr. Paul are 'early adopters.' The next 10 million will require a modified approach.

respect

First, we have to start treating them with respect. Not make fun of their fundraising efforts, don't take cheap shots at Fred. The rest should follow. I believe RP and FT have enough in common for the Thompson's people to gravitate towards RP naturally.

I have recruited all my

I have recruited all my people the same way. Respectfull. I say if Ron Paul becomes the president he will do 2 things, not over night but we will move in the direction fast.
get rid of infaltion and explain how inflation works
get rid of Irs
imagine if just those to thing would happen how much it would bennefit our country. then i send them video on the other stuff. I have found them sending the videos off to thier netwroks too. I use this site to pull the best information.

My parents agree with Ron

My parents agree with Ron Paul on everything except the war, so they are supporting Thompson. They have even given Ron Paul money, in the past, for his congressional campaigns. Unfortunately, I know several people that agree with Ron Paul on most everything, but because of the war are supporting another candidate. So, in my opinion, unless we can convince people that they have been conned by Fox News about the war, Thompson's supporters are more likely to go to Romney or Huckabee, since it seems that the war is the MOST important issue to some of these people. : - (

Tell them that is what

Tell them that is what Afghanistan was for. RP mentions we were supposed to attack alquaida there, but instead got deterred with setting gas lines...then also have them explain why we are continually attackng killing innocent civilians, an entire nation, rather than attacking specific al quaida members...it just don't make no sense. Now they are hell bent into going into IRAN. WTF....they haven't even finished this war, yet we are moving into more territory. There is no common sense. Iraq and Iran war do not make sense!! War is bad...mkay...war is bad mkay?? lol

Easy way to convert Pro War Republicans

I hear that every so often - I call these people the talk radio vote, because thats where they get their info - Hannity, Rush, Savage.

Here is how to convert them - First remind them that in 2006 Republicans lost the House and the Senate because of the war, and they will lose the Presidency too if they vote for a Pro War Republican because 68% of likely voters want the war to end RIGHT NOW. its a wasted vote ANY Democrat can beat a Pro War Republican with ease - do they really want Hillary or Obama and an all Democrat Congress with Free Reign over everything.

Ask them wouldn't they rather have Ron Paul a person who they agree with on everything but the war in office, or Hillary Clinton?

I just let them know - there is NO WAY any Pro War Republican can win on the WAR issue - they will get crushed like in 2006

Don't Argue if the War is Right

I think we would have much better success convincing these folks to support RP by conceding the point that the war is necessary, just for arguments sake, but then point out that a radically different approach needs to be taken because of the pending financial crises that an aggressive approach would precipitate. We need to convince them that we simply can't afford to prosecute the war that way. we need to come back home and really defend the country here. Some of the most persuasive arguments come from when you concede a point or two and then still prove your point.

It's also possible to concede

That Fred's a very funny guy, with a wisp of Federalism hinted-at by his past votes even if he's wrong about many things. I'm currently trying to find out just how much his campaign spent to keep other Presidential candidates' (NOT just Ron Paul's!!) supporters out of Florida gunshows. That obviously didn't work because we simply besieged the sidewalks & parking lots, but I want them to see exactly what their guy spent in order to avoid having to do some much-needed Larry Pratt ass-kissing. :)

Anyway, Fred's vestigial Federalism allows Reason magazine's excellent Radley Balko to

ask questions like this. They of course go entirely-unanswered by Fred's sleepwalking campaign, but at least it's possible to ask Federalism questions of Fred. It's sorta backhanded, but that's a compliment. :)
