Me and a couple of buddies went door to door to spread awareness about Ron Paul. It was my first time and I'll admit I was a little nervous but after a few houses it was a blast. I was suprised how many people have no idea who our man is. And these are registered republicans! I am committed to canvass every Saturday until the California primary. Don't sit on the sidelines get in the game and lets get Dr. Paul elected president!

People are busy or not home, they need PAUL FOOD. Let them eat it at there leisure. I leave my phone number with the positive encounters and offer them a yard sign. This is why I canvas high visibility streets. People are receptive and thankful. I've had people take a sign who previously hadn't heard of the Good Doctor.
At the Grocery store l offered a clerk a palm card. He read it aloud, "Ron Paul," then the cashier commented that I was her new best friend. She loves Ron Paul. She got a handful of cards & a yard sign. Incorporating the palm cards into your daily routine is very rewarding. AMERICA, BLESS GOD.

Name Recognition is a Huge Problem
Your are absolutely right, and that's my experience as well. That's why people who say we're way past the "Who is Ron Paul?" stage are not actually talking to real people (with the possible exception of IA, NH, and SC). My experience is the same as yours: MOST Republicans (I'd estimate at least 70% here in SoCal) have never HEARD of Ron Paul.
I was going to start walking my precinct today, but I have to admit I wound up sleeping most of the day. The last few months have been a grind of working nights and weekends, and I didn't do s**t today. I'll get out tomorrow.

If you can't afford to buy a lot of them, how about buying just one carrying a portable DVD player with you and maybe play a little bit of it. Then leave them with the slimjim.

I went today for about an hour in my neighborhood at home. Response was mostly good. One piece of advice--make sure you have some campaign materials! One person I talked to told me that I seemed suspicious since I was going door-to-door with no official flyers. Unfortunately in my case it wasn't really avoidable...slimjims are on backorder at the official site. I would have had to have ordered them the week before my finals week...lord knows I never plan things that far in advance...but the point is having campaign materials gives you credibility.

Also, bring a clip board ard envelope (I think it makes people curious) and they don't automatically think you're a Jehovah Witness (no offense to Jehovah Witnesses)
Wear Ron Paul pins or shirt if possible
Another tip, bring a friend/supporter along it helps make it more fun
