The Hill: Patriot Act Powers May Lapse at End of Week

From the Hill:

A combination of the Senate’s arcane rules and Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) insistence on voting on several controversial amendments may cause the Patriot Act to lapse at the end of the week.

The expiration of the law before the passage of an extension would create an upheaval in the law enforcement community which relies on its authority to track suspected terrorists.

Even if Paul waives the 30 hours of post-cloture debate, lawmakers will have to scramble to get the extension signed into law by Thursday because President Obama is in Europe.

Officials will have to fly a copy of the Patriot Act extension overseas if they are to prevent it a range of law-enforcement powers from expiring.

Good, let it expire. The Patriot Act is TERRORISM.

As if the powers that be give a shit about if it is law or not... The Pres would just pardon anyone that breaks it

able to post over on the Daily Kos?

Really hope there are at least some there who would appreciate principled opposition to the patriot act.

"Really hope there are at least some there who would appreciate principled opposition to the patriot act."

I'm not sure about that. At the Democratic Underground, most are just calling Rand Paul racist.

Come on valcano

Make that ash. Lets have some more prayer from those who pray. To God be the glory. Set this nation right. This country is lucky to have the Paul family. Rand deserves much respect for standing up and speaking truth to power. Im so proud of him.

Every comment on that post is positive for Rand!!!! It can't all be us can it?

Ron Paul > Gary Johnson > Crap > Obama

I LOVE this!

I love this so much!! Thank you, Rand!!!

I hope the Senator can get this law ended. I just really have a hard time believing that any change towards liberty has a chance anymore. The recent Supreme Court ruling has me thinking the police state will be getting worse.

Be of good cheer!

The battle is joined! We are standing up! It will get darker, but freedom is popular!

This article makes it sound

This article makes it sound like a lapse in the patriot act is a bad thing. They make Harry Reid sound smart with his fancy proceedures. This article and the Politico are a bunch of smear jobs.

What do you expect from

"The Hill"?

Pro-Liberty or Pro-Government?

It says Reid has already found a way around Rand's filibuster.

They will stop it on Thursday. And it also says that if Rand is mad enough he has the right to insist on 30 hours of debate after a filibuster is quashed - which would succeed in pushing the vote off until after the deadline.

Re-call Reid...

Nevadans start a petition to re-call Reid. He is a principle to destroying our country. The man should be jailed.

Gun owners of America listen up

From the article: "One of Paul’s proposed amendments would have made clear that authority to obtain information under the Patriot Act does not include certain firearms records. It is supported by Gun Owners of America."

it's time to scare the little people.
