The Obama Administration today accused Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., of threatening national security by insisting on more debate on extension of the Patriot Act and potentially allowing it to expire at midnight.

If Congress fails to pass the legislation before it expires at the end of day, it will pose “a significant risk to U.S. national security,” a senior administration official told ABC News.
“The bottom line is that if these provisions are allowed to lapse, even temporarily, the nation will be less safe,” the official said.
